The City of Toronto wants the Argonauts to play at BMO Field. According to a report from the Toronto Star, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment says its being pushed to bring the Toronto Argonauts to BMO Field. The report states Tim Leiweke, MLSEs CEO said the city is asking for them to enter into a lease with the Argos as part of the deal to renovate BMO Field. MLSE wants to expand BMO Field, home of Toronto FC and owned by the city, and to do so must have council approval. The Argos meanwhile, must vacate Rogers Centre – where they currently play – by 2017. Leiweke said MLSE has had conversations with the Argos, who are currently owned by David Braley – who also owns the CFLs BC Lions – but no deal is yet in place. Hosts of TSN 1050s 1 On 1 With Will & Duane, Will Strickland and Duane Watson enlist the assistance of their friend from la belle province, Montreal Marc of Hoops Lounge as they muse over their ideal 3-On-3 NBA team in addition to other burning questions. Do you think DeMar DeRozans return will help or hinder Terrence Ross growth? Strickland: Help. Ross has made it clear that while hes a talented athlete, hes probably also not talented enough to take a Top 3 lead role on a very solid team in the NBA. T-Ross squandered a great opportunity to step up and earn trust and his next contract in Toronto while DeMar DeRozan was on the shelf. Would a change of scenery flip Terrences fortunes? Who knows? The possibility was pondered earlier this season on #3MW of Ross being a prime figure in any asset management moves and scenarios that could be made to bolster this roster for the long haul this season. Perhaps Masai Ujiri is pondering the possibilities now. Stay tuned! Griffin: Hinder. You can only learn so much by watching and waiting in this life. So as long as DeRozan is healthy, I can see T-Ross turning into inevitable trade bait. Lest we forget, Brooklyn badly exposed Toronto in the paint last playoffs whenever JV was not on the court. Masai knows this. The Raptors badly need another rim defender if they wanna take that next step in April. Watson: If Ross is waiting on DeMar to right his game that’s a problem in itself. First and foremost, he can work on becoming a defensive presence. Secondly, he needs to attack the hoop and use his athleticism at the rim, which he should be able to exploit as DeMar draws more defensive attention. The question is, does he want to? Theres talk that 3-on-3 will be an official event in the 2016 Summer Olympics. If it were to happen, who is your three-man team? Strickland: LeBron James, James Harden and Anthony Davis. Play-making, scoring, freakish talent. Multi-faceted games. Hard to imagine this squad losing, though Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Marc Gasol were heavy on the radar as well. Whether this becomes an official Olympic event or not, fantasy GMing these teams is a hoop lovers dream! Griffin: In all my years I’ve learned the most important thing in this game is chemistry. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love sit silently nodding their heads. I’d take a group of talented guys who have been playing together for a while, know their positions, and have a glue guy who can hold everything together. And in the spirit of #JeSuisCharlie the IOC has granted me artistic freedom to have a Frenchman playing alongside two Americans. I’m taking Damian Lillard, Nic Batum, and LaMarcus Aldridge. Coached by the ghost of Dr. Jack Ramsay. …We’ll take all comers. Watson: Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler and Anthony Davis. You can’t hide weak defensive players in a game of 3-On-3, as they will get punished in isolation. Having a team that can go both ways is key, and all of the above are exceptional players on both sides of the ball. Who’s got game? Austin Rivers is about to join his father Doc on the Clippers, do you approve, or should the father/son thing be off limits in the Association? Strickland: Tough call. Coaching your kid at biddy/AAU level is one thing. Coaching him in college or even professionally is an entirely different set of potential headaches. Whether joining a veteran or young team, the notion of nepotism/favouritism, the look of any perceived impropriety and the possibility of straining personal relationships between father and son are immediate red flags that come to mind. A delicate ballet must be danced by both Austin Rivers and his dad Doc in the locker room, on the court and off the court with this new work wrinkle on a team that, while talented, has yet, if ever, to achieve its fullest potential. Not sure if Austin Rivers even counts in the grand scheme of things there, but it will be interesting to observe. Griffin: It depends on the situation.dddddddddddd Pistol Pete Maravich’s father coached him in high school and college, and all that pressure nearly cracked the man. Doc Rivers is one of the most respected coaches in the game, so if anyone can do this it’s him. Plus it’s a smart move that he got the blessing from Chris Paul and rest of the guys first. Btw, I’d love to be a fly on the wall at the Rivers household; every night Doc slams his hand like Sonny in The Godfather and yells, “We dont discuss business at the table!” Watson: This may be the best thing for young Austin. Undoubtedly the pressure of playing for your father is immense, but that coupled with having the opportunity to learn from Chris Paul and Jamal Crawford, provides every opportunity for him to reach his potential. If it doesn’t work, he’ll forever be known as “Doc Rivers son.” With the apparent open mutiny in Cleveland, what is the ultimate fate of David Blatt? Strickland: Unless Shane Battier shows up, takes the Cavs to Toronto, watches the Super Bowl with them, makes a speech and then inspires the team to win 26-27 straight, David Blatt making it through the full season would be a surprise and a stain on The Decision 2.0. Coach Blatt is on borrowed time as owner Dan Gilbert could end up possibly paying three head coaches simultaneously all while wondering whether The King and Kevin Love will decide to opt out July 1, 2015, putting additional pressure on the front office in Cleveland. Griffin: He’s gonna be sent back to his homeland. Which is America. Since he’s American. And likely back to college hoops, which seems like a better fit for his my way or the highway personality. Blatt was dealt some pretty difficult cards his first year in the NBA, but you gotta know when to hold ‘em and when to turn that Kenny Rogers cassette tape off. …Maybe he’ll end up back in the Ivy League, take it full circle. Watson: There is no way Coach Blatt will be back at the helm of the Cavaliers next season. Unless Blatt does the impossible, and leads them to an NBA Championship (which isn’t going to happen), but there’s nothing better than being paid to leave. On whom do the title hopes of the Chicago Bulls rest more this season: Derrick Rose or Joakim Noah? Strickland: Noah. Derrick Roses knee woes over the past several years helped to strengthen the resolve of the Bulls as players had to step up and assume greater roles. No one achieved more in that time than Joakim Noah, the 2014 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and two-time All-Star. But the load of carrying Chicago to scrappy but ultimately failing playoff appearances and the minutes Coach Thibodeau hoists on his starters are weighing heavily on Noah. The arthroscopic knee surgery that took longer than expected for Joakim to recover from this past offseason is now compounded by a recurring ankle issue that sidelined him for four games earlier this season and will shelve him for possibly for several more after re-aggravating it vs Washington this past Wednesday. The Bulls could win the East this season without Derrick Rose. They have zero chance with Joakim Noah. Griffin: Not an easy question. But I’m gonna go with DRose. Simply because at heart - he’s the Batman Chicago knows and needs. He’s the local boy done good. The one player every kid from the block looks up to, and the second coming of greatness. Mind you, I don’t believe DRose will ever be the same player again, I’m pretty certain of that. Yet, if Willis Reed stumbling out on one leg in Game 7 of the NBA Finals has taught me anything, it’s that a hobbled warrior can instill greatness in a team. Question is, if that bullish effect can last until June. Watson: Defence wins championships and Chicago runs a defensive system. The heart, anchor and leader of that defensive club is Noah, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Jimmy Butler has already proven he can provide a level of Rose’s talents, but Noah is indispensable. Jimmy Garoppolo Jersey . -- Canadian freestyle skier Roz Groenewoud isnt letting surgery to both of her knees deter her expectations for the Sochi Olympics. TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona coach Bruce Arians says there "were obviously very, very many problems" with the officiating in the Cardinals 24-21 loss at Philadelphia. Of particular concern were three plays near the end of the game. One was a holding call on safety Tyrann Mathieu that negated Patrick Petersons interception. Another was a holding call on linebacker Matt Shaughnessy on the Eagles final possession. A third was a no-call when the Cardinals felt there was pass interference on a fourth-down incompletion to Michael Floyd the last time Arizona had the ball. Asked if he felt the calls will cost the Cardinals a playoff spot, Arians said, "It possibly could, but I think a lot of things have to happen here in the last four weeks. I would hope that we give up all that talk this week and just focus on the St. Louis Rams." The Cardinals (7-5) are home against the Rams next Sunday. Arians said he sent "about 15 plays" to the NFL for review by Dean Blandino, the NFLs vice-president of officiating. "The proper channels have been followed," the Arizona coach said, "and obviously there were very, very many problems" with the officiating. Arians said Blandino "does a great job. Hes very honest with it. Ive already gotten most of the answers. I got them before I left the locker room yesterday." Arians declined to share what he was told, but asked if he gets any satisfaction from those answers, he said, "No, I just get madder." The Cardinals had rallied from a 24-7 deficit to cut the Philadelphia lead to 24-21 when Peterson intercepted Nick Foles pass at the Eagles 43 with four minutes to play. But Mathieu was called for holding on the play. It would have been the first interception Foles has thrown this season. Arians said "theres no doubt in my mind" that the Cardinals would have scored had Petersons interception stood. "We (had) just put a good drive together," Arians said, "and only needed 10 yards for a field goal to tie it." The Cardinals did get the ball back at their 10-yard line with 2:03 to play. But on third-and-five from the 15, Carson Palmer missed an open Andre Roberts, then on fourth down, Palmers pass to Floyd was incomplete. The Eagles took over on downs and, on third-and-four from the 9, Shaughnessy tackkled Foles for a loss but was called for holding, giving Philadelphia a first down and the ability to run out the clock.dddddddddddd "He (the Philadelphia player) was blocking Matt on a bootleg play," Arians said. "Matt threw him to the ground and sacked the quarterback. ... It happens every time a guy tries to block you and you sack the quarterback. It was one of those problems (with the officiating)." Thats the way Shaughnessy saw it, too. "He was blocking down on me, and I was fighting the pressure, pushing him outside and he tried to release," Shaughnessy said. "I threw him down and then I went after the quarterback. I thought it was a sack." Linebacker Daryl Washington drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for complaining vehemently about the call. Mathieu avoided any complaints about the call against him when he spoke to reporters on Monday. After the game Sunday, the Arizona rookie said he thought "it was a good play. I was just trying to be a good defensive back and was trying to get a good jam on him." Even if mistakes are acknowledged by the crew headed by referee Tony Corrente, nothing can be done about it now. "As long as everybody owns up to it, you move on," Arians said. "Its part of the game. Were here working our tails off this week. Those guys (the officials) are back at their other jobs." Officiating aside, Arians said the Cardinals, who fell a game behind San Francisco for the final NFC wild card spot, made too many mistakes early against the Eagles and regressed after a four-game winning streak. He said the team cant afford to dwell on what happened in Philadelphia. Going into the game against St. Louis, Arizona has lost eight straight against NFC West foes, including three this year. "If were ever going to do anything, we better start winning our division," Arians said. "Thats our only focus this week. I dont want to hear about anything else in our locker room except winning a division game." Notes: RB Andre Ellington, who missed Sundays game with a knee injury, wont practice Wednesday, Arians said. "Im hoping to have him out there Thursday and Friday, but were not going to rush him," the coach said. "Hes too young and too valuable to cause a long-term problem." ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon has reworked his lineup in search of an offensive spark. Maddon had sluggers Wil Myers and Evan Longoria first and second Wednesday night in the lineup against Oakland. Part-time outfielder Brandon Guyer, who normally hits seventh or eighth, was the cleanup hitter. Over a 28-game stretch through Tuesday, Longoria hit .202. Myers started the day with two RBIs in his past 14 games. "I wanted to get them as many at-bats as possible to get them going," Maddon said of Myers and Longoria. "Right now its really difficult to try to set up a logical batting order based on as a group not hitting. If those two guys go, well be in pretty good shape." The Rays, last in the AL East, had scored in just one of their previous 28 innings entering Wednesday, and had 14 runs over the previous seven games. Leon Goretzka Germany Jersey . LAKE LOUISE, Alta. -- Manuel Osborne-Paradis and Jan Hudec didnt want to leave home without securing their spots on Canadas Olympic team. The two men bounced back from disappointing downhill races at the Lake Louise World Cup to finish in the top 12 in Sundays super-G. Calgarys Hudec was 10th and Vancouvers Osborne-Paradis finished 12th, which met the criteria to be nominated to the 2014 Olympic team. "We were both talking about how frustrated we were so Im glad I got that out of the way now," Hudec says. "It takes the pressure off. The longer you leave it, the more pressure you put on yourself on tougher courses." They followed Erik Guay of Mont-Tremblant, Que., in meeting the Olympic team standard in Lake Louise. Guay was eighth in Saturdays downhill to qualify for his third Winter Games. The 2014 Winter Olympics are in Sochi, Russia, in February. Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway won the super-G at Lake Louise for the third straight year. Hes won six World Cup races at the Alberta resort during his career. His fifth super-G win broke the record of four previously held by Austrian legend Hermann Maier. Svindals lone downhill victory was last year. "Lake Louise has been good to me," Svindal said. "I won my first World Cup ever here in 2005 and its the one destination where I have the most wins. The super-G just seems to suit me well. "The snow in North America, especially here, and the snow in Scandinavia is more similar than from Scandinavia to Central Europe. I think that has something do to with it. Norwegians tend to do well in North America." Austrians were second and third with Matthias Mayer .24 seconds back of Svindal and Georg Streitberger .38 seconds behind. The men head to Beaver Creek, Colo., and the second stop on the World Cup circuit this 2013-14 season. They trade places with the women, who are travelling from Beaver Creek to Lake Louise this week for downhill races Friday and Saturday and a super-G on Sunday. U.S. ski star Lindsey Vonn has won a record 14 times at Lake Louise and swept all three races the last two years. But the 29-year-old crashed in training last week and partially tore a reconstructed ligament in her right knee. Vonn free skied, but didnt participate in the womens races at Beaver Creek on the weekend. She told The Associated Press she wants to race in Lake Louise. The first of three womens training runs scheduled for Tuesday has been called off because the women were delayed travelling from Colorado to Alberta. In additioon to medals and prize money, medallists at Lake Louise were given white cowboy hats to wear for podium pictures and to take home.dddddddddddd "Its pretty hard to walk around in Europe and think youre a cowboy," Svindal said. "Its one of those things where you wear them here and think its really cool and you get off the plane in Germany and its not that sweet anymore unless you are a real cowboy." Total prize money at the World Cup was 100,000 Swiss francs ($117,000 Cdn) with 30,000 going to the downhill and super-G winners. The Canadian team departs without a medal at their home race. Osborne-Paradis was the last Canadian man to stand on the podium at Lake Louise when he won the super-G in 2009. "When you look at the results on paper, its not quite where we wanted to be, but for the most part the three guys, Erik, Manny and Jan have good speed and theyre going to be building through the season," said Paul Kristofic, Alpine Canadas vice-president of sports. "Its good to see Erik up to speed so quickly. We didnt actually expect that." Guay tied for 18th in the super-G. Knee surgery in July kept the 2011 world downhill champion off snow until November. The 32-year-old said Lake Louise gave him positive feedback on his progress. "It was to see how the knee reacted, how the back reacted, how the skiing is in race situations," Guay said. "Theres good things that came out of this weekend and I have to build off of that." Hudec and Osborne-Paradis were 22nd and 28th respectively in Saturdays downhill. Hudec rapped his knuckles on the side of his helmet after crossing the super-G finish line Sunday. "That was the old fashioned Im an idiot," Hudec explained. "Even though Im not on the podium today, I knew I could have been. "Even though Im not quite in there, Im happy because I was skiing towards a podium finish. I just made a huge mistake. The reason I was hitting my head is I didnt trust myself for a split second to take a tighter line than what I expected. I ended up out in the weeds as they say." Osborne-Paradis was at a disadvantage with a No. 45 start bib. Courses generally get beaten and chopped up by the first 30 racers down the hill. So finishing 12th was the performance of the day for Canada, according to Kristofic. "Thats great. I needed it," Osborne-Paradis said. "I was really bummed yesterday. Im super-pumped with today. Its good to walk away from here with that Olympic spot." New York, NY (Sports Network) - Peyton Manning is off to an historic start so its no surprise hes been named an AFC Player of the Week for the second time already this season. The Broncos quarterback earned the offensive award Wednesday after passing for 374 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-21 win over the Raiders Monday night. Manning completed 32-of-37 passes and had a passer rating of 135.8 -- only the sixth time in NFL history someone threw for at least 350 yards and three TDs with a completion percentage over 85, according to the NFL. He also captured the award for Week 1 after throwing an NFL record-tying seven touchdown passes against the Ravens. Manning has thrown 12 touchdown passes so far this season -- the most of any player ever through three weeks of the NFL season. It was Mannings 25th Player of the Week award, also a record. Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston won the defensive award after posting 4 1/2 sacks in a Thursday night win over the Eagles. Houston had seven tackles, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas in the only Chiefs player with more sacks in a game. Browns punter Spencer Lanning averaged 46.8 yards on five punts in a win over the Vikings and threw an 11-yard touchdown pass as the holder on a fake field goal attempt, earning the special teams award. He also kicked an extra point. The NFL said Lanning was the first player with a punt, an extra point and a touchdown pass in a single game since Philadelphias Sam Baker on Oct. 13, 1968. Atleticos march toward its first title since 1996 hit a bump when it lost 2-0 at Levante, although its city rival failed to make up much ground as Madrid needed a spectacular injury-time equalizer from Cristiano Ronaldo to salvage a 2-2 draw at home against Valencia. Barcelona had written off its title defence after drawing 2-2 with Getafe on Saturday, but its rivals stumbles have put it right back in the hunt. Barcelona trails Atletico by three points, while Madrid was left five points behind with an extra game to play after Ronaldo deftly used the sole of his right boot to turn in a cross in the 92nd minute. "It was a tough round for all three at the top and the league is more wide open than ever," said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti. "I always said it would come down to the last game." Madrids draw meant that Atletico can clinch the title if it takes four points from its last two games because it holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Madrid if they end up level on points. Atletico hosts Malaga next weekend before finishing the season at Barcelonas Camp Nou. "Now the league is that much more interesting," Atletico coach Diego Simeone said after his teams nine-round winning run came to a halt at Ciutat de Valencia stadium. Levante pressed Atletico early and was rewarded when Papakouly Diops corner kick hit Atletico left back Filipe Luis in the chest. The ball bounced out of reach of scrambling goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois before settling into the net in the seventh. Atletico improved after bringing on substitutes Arda Turan and Adrian Lopez after halftime but conceded again when striker David Barral beat Courtois in the 69th. Far from bemoaning the setback, Simeone said that defeat was "the best thing that could happen" to his team to keep it focused on the run-in not only to the league title but also to the Champions League final with Madrid on May 24, a week after the league concludes. &qquot;Three weeks of high intensity and emotion await us," Simeone said.dddddddddddd "This is the ideal moment for my men, for my players. We have three finals ahead of us and we have to concentrate on the first of those against Malaga next Sunday." Four days after its commanding 3-1 victory at Chelsea to reach the final of the Champions League, Atletico was brought down by the modest Levante side that has outperformed expectations thanks to coach Joaquin Caparros defensive focus and Keylor Navass goalkeeping. "We didnt want to mess up a title for anyone, I hope they (Atletico) win it," Barral said. "We want to finish the league in the best fashion we can." The match was marred at the finish by a group of Atletico fans who directed racist jeers at Diop. The player from Senegal responded by doing a dance. He later called for an end to such racist displays. Valencia arrived to the Bernabeu after its demoralizing exit from the Europa League semifinals when it conceded an injury-time goal to Sevilla on Thursday, while Madrid was flying high from its rout of Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Valencia turned to a set piece to grab the lead in the 44th when defender Jeremy Mathieu got in front of Raphael Varane inside the six-yard box to head in a corner kick. Ancelotti sent on Angel Di Maria at halftime to spark Madrids attack, and the forward lobbed a ball for Ronaldo to flick on for Sergio Ramos to nod home in the 59th and add to his two goals against Bayern. Valencia wasnt done, however, and Dani Parejo drove in a squared pass from Feghouli in the 65th after Seydou Keita had won the ball in midfield to start the move. Ronaldo then appeared to save Madrid from a costly defeat by flicking in Di Marias cross to take his league-leading tally to 31 goals this season. He reached 50 goals in all competitions for the fourth straight season. Elsewhere, Ramon Azeezs last-gasp goal gave 10-man Almeria a 3-2 win at home over relegated Real Betis to help pull his team out of the drop zone, while Sevilla drew 0-0 at home with Villarreal. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The ball seldom hit the ground, regardless of which Alabama quarterback was throwing the passes. The top-ranked Crimson Tides defence also held its third straight opponent out of the end zone. AJ McCarron completed 15 of 16 passes for 166 yards and four touchdowns in the first half and Alabama was brutally efficient in rolling to a 45-3 victory over Georgia State on Saturday. "Thats what we were looking for," Tide wide receiver DeAndrew White said. "We try to play a perfect game. Special teams, offence, defence coming together, thats what we want." The Tide (5-0) jumped ahead 38-0 by halftime in what might have turned into a name-your-score game against the Panthers (0-5), a first-year Football Bowl Subdivision team. McCarron led Alabama to touchdowns on each of his five possessions before leaving and set the school record for completion percentage in a game with a minimum of 15 passes. He completed his first 12 passes, putting him in a three-way tie for the Tides third-longest streak. The four touchdown passes matched his career high and was the seventh time McCarron has reached that number. Alabama outgained the Panthers 477-175 and held them to 15 yards on 22 rushes. Tide coach Nick Sabans summation of the offence: "I thought our efficiency was really good." The defence was equally effective. Alabama has allowed only three field goals in the past three games. "Its a lot of pride," safety Landon Collins said. "Thats our defence. Thats what we live upon. Thats what we pride (ourselves) on: No offence can score on us, and thats what we try to do every game we come into." Georgia State ended Alabamas bid for a second straight shutout with Wil Lutzs school-record 53-yard field goal to cap the second halfs opening drive. Ronnie Bells 34-yard pass to Albert Wilson put the Panthers across midfield for the first time and helped set up the score. Bell completed 11 of 20 passes for 146 yards. Albert Wilson gained 60 yards on four catches. "They did a great job of doing what they wanted to do, when they wanted to do it," Georgia State coach Trent Miles said. "I thought our young men competed hard. When youre playing the No. 1 team in the nation at their place and youre a major underdog, you cant help them and we went out there and helped them early in the game. We went out and fumbled a kickoff return, we missed tackles, and we had some young guys not line up right. "Im not sure if they were nervous or what, but it just made their job a little easier." Collins started in place of Tide safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. He reportedly accepted a short-term loan from an assistant, but the stars absence wasnt a problem in the mismatch. Clinton-Dixs status remains uncertain for next weeks game at Kentucky. "I dont have any new information and when we get new information, well certainly pass it along to you," Saban said. The Tide scored on every possession until freshman sub Adam Griffith missed a 30-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and only punted once. Numerous subs played on both sides of the ball for Alabama, starting before the half. Backup quarterback Blake Sims wasnt far behind McCarrons accuracy. He completed 14 of 18 passes for 130 yards and his second career touchdown, a 10-yard pass to Chris Black that was the games final score with 6:18 left in the third quarter. Alabama scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, capping it with Whites one-handed grab for an 11-yard scoring catch one play after the Tide recovered a fumbled punt return. Backup tailback Kenyan Drake added a 23-yard catch on a swing pass early in the second quarter. He bounced off a defender near the line of scrimmage and dove into end zone. Starter T.J. Yeldon ran for 28 yards on the games first play and finished with six carries for 51 yards. Drake finished with five carries for 40 yards. Freshman Derrick Henry gained 50 yards on five carries. Alabama freshman defensive end AShawn Robinson made his first career start in place of Jeoffrey Pagan (shoulder), but plenty of other youngsters and reserves saw significant action. The defence didnt miss a beat. "They got to the ball very fast, which got us to play faster," Bell said. "So when we get into competition with the Sun Belt, then well play faster." TORONTO -- Canada may have been within a couple of points of knocking off a Tier 1 rugby team Saturday, but there was no celebrating in the Canadian locker-room after the game. A controversial penalty in the dying minutes made sure of that. The Canadians dropped a 19-17 decision to Scotland in an international Test match at BMO Field -- a country that sits a full eight positions higher than them on the world rankings. But Canada was in position to win with five minutes to go when the referee reversed his decision on a call, after originally awarding Canada a penalty kick. "Im gutted actually for the guys, they really put it all in," said Canadian coach Kieran Crowley. "Positives are . . . we ran a Tier 1 country to two points, thats a pretty good effort." On the controversial play in the 75th minute, Canadian flanker Jebb Sinclair had the ball, his forearm made contact with Ruaridh Jackson, and the Scottish player was knocked out cold. The referee initially awarded a penalty kick to Canada, but reversed the call after reviewing video. "I dont know what you mean to do with your elbow in that situation when a guy gets his head on the wrong side," Crowley said "He refereed it how he saw it, and I thought it was the wrong decision. But thats the way he sees it." Jeff Hassler scored Canadas lone try while James Pritchard booted for 12 Canadian points. Grant Gilchrist scored the single try for Scotland, while Greig Laidlaw kicked four penalties and a conversion. Hassler scored in the 23rd minute, after Ciaran Hearn broke through the Scottish midfield and sprinted 30 metres down the sideline in front of a red-and-clad crowd of 18,788 fans -- plus the odd Scottish fan dressed in a kilt -- at BMO Field. "Its always good to get one on the board early in front of the home fans, it was a bit of a spark for us, just good team play and a good finish," Hassler said. The Canadians were looking to bounce back from a 34-25 loss to Japan in a Pacific Nations Cup game a week earlier in Burnaby, B.C. -- an ugly affair that saw the Canadians give up 25 unanswered points in the second half. While it was expected the No. 16-ranked Canadians would be in for a much tougher afternoon against the eighth-ranked Scots, they made Scotland work for the win -- the first Scottish victory on Canadian soil. "Its pretty gutting," Hassler said of the close loss. "Its not the first time weve been in that position and its something that we as a Canadian team need to improve on and start knocking off some of these teams in the last couple of minutes of the game. Locker-room is pretty disappointed, but we know were right there." Gilchrist scored in the 27th minute, muscling his way across the try line after some strong work from the Scottish forwards. Scotland took a 13-8 lead into the dressing room at halftime. Pritchard booted four penalty kicks, plus a conversion. He had a chance to give Canada the lead with 15 minutes to play, but his kick banged off the post. He made good on his next attempt to put the Canadians up 17-16. But Laidlaw booted his fourth of the day to put the Scots back on top with eigght minutes to play.dddddddddddd Stuart Hogg also had a penalty kick for the Scots, who were coming off a 24-6 victory over the United States a week earlier in Houston. "Not happy at all with the outcome," said Canadian captain Tyler Ardron. "Im sure that call (on Sinclair) is whats going to be talked a lot about this week, but in all honesty I dont think it should have come down to that. I think we should have closed it out before that and its shouldnt have made a difference." Despite the close loss, Ardron said this game didnt sit with him any better than last weeks defeat at the hands of Japan. "Its the same feeling, I think we should have won both those games, but its not good enough to sit back and say we should have won those games," he said. "We have to win them. If we want to get to where we feel we should be, thats got to be our attitude." Scotlands coach Vern Cotter admitted the call on Sinclair that reduced Canada to 14 men "changed momentum" of the game. "(The Canadians) were attacking at that stage," said Cotter, after his second game with Scotland. "Always in these games, little things make the difference. A little thing turned out to be a big thing and had a reasonably big consequence on the result." Cotter praised the Canadian side that is "developing rapidly." He added the Canadians clearly came out at the opening whistle bent on making up for last weekends disappointing result against Japan. "They were very angry, you could see in the first couple of rucks, there was a couple of exchanges, they obviously wanted to impose physically," Cotter said. "I think thats part of their team psyche, they enjoy that type of thing. "I think they played particularly well. . . theyre doing some good things." The BMO Field crowd was positive on the afternoon -- another strong rugby turnout at the lakeside venue that Canadian players have dubbed their unofficial home. Some 22,566 fans squeezed into BMO Field to watch the Maori All Blacks beat the Canadians 40-15 there last November -- a North American record crowd for the sport. Canadas loss to Ireland a few months earlier drew 20,396 fans to the stadium that is normally home to Major League Soccers Toronto FC. "It felt awesome," said Ardron, who grew up in Lakefield, Ont., just north of Peterborough. "Its so hard to comment on how good it felt now after such a devastating loss, a close game like that. But having the support behind us the whole game felt great." The game was Scotlands first victory over Canada on Canadian soil. Canada had beaten Scotland twice at home -- 24-19 in 1991 in Saint John, N.B., and 26-23 in Vancouver in 2002. Theyve met two times in Scotland, both Scottish victories -- 22-2 in Edinburgh in 1995 and 41-0 in Aberdeen in 2008. The game was halted for about 10 minutes midway through the first half while medical staff attended to Scotlands Alasdair Strokosch. Strokosch was eventually wheeled off the pitch on a stretcher. The Canadians face the United States next Saturday in a Pacific Nations Cup game in Sacramento, Calif. The Edmonton Oilers sit at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with 31 points and are just 2-7-2 in their last 11. They had followed up a pair of victories with back-to-back losses beyond regulation before a 5-1 setback to the Sharks last night. Their next task is a hot Anaheim Ducks team that are coming off a terrific month of December. Nail Yakupov, a healthy scratch in Edmontons previous game on Tuesday, had the lone Oilers goal and Devan Dubnyk yielded five goals on 36 shots. San Jose scored a pair of goals just 49 seconds apart in the first period and went up 4-0 by the 8:45 mark of the second. "We were playing fine until that second goal," Edmonton head coach Dallas Eakins said. The Oilers and Ducks met for the first time this season on Dec. 15 in Anaheim, with the Ducks logging a 3-2 win. Hiller made 23 saves, moving to 12-3-0 with a 1.79 goals against average and two shutouts in his career versus Edmonton. Ilya Bryzgalov got the start for the Oilers and yielded three goals on 34 shots against his former club. He could get the start tonight and is 13-9-2 with a 2.65 GAA versus Anaheim, which took him in the second round of the 2000 draft. The Pacific Division-leading Ducks meanwhile look to keep their season-opening point streak at home alive on Friday playing host to the struggling Oilers. Anaheim goes into 2014 as the only team in the league having yet to lose a regulation game at home. The Ducks are 15-0-2 at the Honda Center, just the third team in the NHL in 25 years to begin a campaign with a home point streak of 17 games or more. They join the 2008-09 San Jose Sharks (20-0-2) and the 1988-89 Calgary Flames (14-0-3). The Ducks went 11-1-1 in December, notching a club-record 10 straight wins prior to a road loss in San Jose on Sunday. They bounced back to split the home-and-home set, besting the Sharks 6-3 on Tuesday. Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and two assists, while Matt Beleskey and Nick Bonino had a goal and an assist each. Jonas Hiller made 33 saves to win his club- record ninth straight decision, getting full credit from Getzlaf afterwards. "If you look at their numbers, theyre crazy in the first period. (Hiller) did an unbelievable job keeping us in the first period," noted Getzlaf. "We couldve easily been down a couple goals, at least. Thats what it takes to beat good teams. You need good goaltending, and our guys reacted well." The Ducks have a five-point lead over the Sharks for first place in the Pacific Division and trail the Chicago Blackhawks 64 points by one for the most in the NHL. The Ducks have won five straight and 10 of their last 11 meetings with the Oilers, taking six of the last eight played at home. David Amerson Chiefs Jersey . In his first career start, Blake Bell -- who lost the starting job during the preseason -- passed for 413 yards and four touchdowns in his first start for Oklahoma and the Sooners beat Tulsa 51-20 on Saturday. "It was awesome," Bell said. "I had a great time first of all, just getting out there and playing ball, theres nothing better. The only thing I wanted to do was be ready. I didnt want to not be ready for this game. I felt like I did that. I felt like I played well out there." Sterling Shepard caught eight passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns -- all career highs -- and Jaz Reynolds had 109 yards receiving and one score for Oklahoma (3-0). The Sooners scored on their first five possessions against Tulsa (1-2) to continue their dominance in the series, having won 12 of the last 13 games between the in-state rivals. The Sooners are 13-0 against Tulsa as a ranked team and 7-0 against the Golden Hurricane since Bob Stoops became Oklahomas coach in 1999. Bell, a junior, lost a preseason competition to redshirt freshman Trevor Knight, but Knight struggled in the passing game in wins over Louisiana-Monroe and West Virginia. Knight bruised a knee against West Virginia, opening the door for Bell to start against Tulsa. Oklahoma is 3-0 for the third time in four seasons, heading into a showdown in two weeks at No. 21 Notre Dame, which beat the Sooners last year in Norman. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said after the game that Bell would start against the Fighting Irish. "Thats pretty obvious," Stoops said. "So much for your controversy right now. It didnt last long. You cant deny what he just went out and did. Im proud of him and excited for him. It also speaks to his character. Heres a guy that was ready for it -- never got down, never changed his attitude. He got his chance and he took great advantage of it." By halftime, Bell -- who served as a short-yardage rushing specialist for the Sooners the past two seasons while backing up Landry Jones -- was 15 of 21 for 281 yards and two touchdowns. His first-half yardage total was the second-most by an Oklahoma quarterback in the first half of his first career start. By comparison, Knight passed for 205 yards combined in his two starts. Bell posted the highest passing-yardage total by any Oklahoma quarterback making his first start. By comparison, in the debuts of Oklahomas two most recent starting quarterbacks before Knight, Sam Bradford threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns in a 2007 romp over North Texas, while Jones had 286 yards passing and three TDs in a rout of Idaho State in 2009. Bell -- whose pre-game introduction received a rousing roar of approval from Oklahoma fans -- finished 27 of 37 passing. After he lost the preseason competition for the starting job, Bell said everyone told him he had to stay ready. "Thats what I did," Bell said. "I put my head down and went to work, because you never know whats going to happen. I prepared every day like I could go in there at any time." Tulsas offence made a resppectable showing against an Oklahoma defence that allowed a combined seven points in its first two games.dddddddddddd Quarterback Cody Green completed 17 of 33 for 226 yards, while Trey Watts rushed for 60 yards on 14 carries, caught five passes for 65 yards and returned a punt 77 yards to set up a field goal. Jordan James caught six passes for 100 yards for Tulsa. "We were more consistent on offence," Tulsa coach Bill Blankenship said. "We still had a critical turnover that hurt us. We dropped a pass that might have been another big play. We just have real high standards. I think we are an improving football team but we got exposed on defence today." Bell was 3 for 4 on Oklahomas first drive, which Brennan Clay ended with a 4-yard touchdown run. On the Sooners next series, Bell hit Reynolds in stride for an 82-yard gain which became the longest non-scoring pass play in Oklahoma history when Tulsa cornerback Darnell Walker Jr. hauled down Reynolds at the 4. Oklahoma settled for a 20-yard field goal by Michael Hunnicutt. Tulsa answered with an 80-yard touchdown drive, aided by two Oklahoma penalties in the end zone. On one of them, safety Gabe Lynn initially was ejected for targeting, but the ejection was overturned after a video review. Still, the Golden Hurricane eventually scored on a 2-yard run by Watts, the son of former Oklahoma quarterback J.C. Watts. A 41-yard gain on a bubble screen pass to Durron Neal set up Oklahomas next touchdown, a 3-yard pass from Bell to Shepard. Lynn intercepted Green on the Golden Hurricanes next series and his return to the Tulsa 36 led to a 29-yard touchdown pass from Bell to tailback Roy Finch that made it 24-7. Bell hit Shepard for 44 yards on Oklahomas next drive, leading to a 30-yard field goal by Hunnicutt. The end of the half stopped Oklahomas sixth drive, but the Sooners opened the second half with a 35-yard scoring pass from Bell to Shepard that was set up by a 41-yard punt return by Jalen Saunders. Oklahoma didnt punt until its eighth possession. Watts returned the punt 77 yards to the Oklahoma 9, but Tulsa settled for a 21-yard field goal by Carl Salazar that made it 34-13. NOTES: The 82-yard reception by Reynolds in the first quarter was the longest by an Oklahoma player since Cameron Kinney caught an 86-yard pass against Oklahoma State on Oct. 27, 2010. It was the second-longest ever at Owen Field, trailing only an 86-yard catch by Wahoo McDaniel vs. West Virginia on Sept. 27, 1958. . The Sooners played without cornerback Aaron Colvin, who was kicked in the jaw during the West Virginia game, and running back Damien Williams, who didnt suit up after being suspended for the game for violating team rules. . Lynn didnt play in the second half after limping off the field following his interception. . Tulsa LB Shawn Jackson had three tackles for loss, giving him 41 1-2 for his career, breaking the school record of 40 co-held by Don Blackmon (1976-1980) and Sam Rayburn (1999-2002). . Tulsa hasnt beaten a top 15 team since knocking off Texas A&M in 1991. . The attendance was 84,229, marking the 89th straight sellout at Owen Field, a program record. ou have to have four

WATERLOO, Ont. -- Despite periods of steady rain, Inbee Park was on fire. The South Korean burned up Grey Silo Golf Course on Sunday, tying a course record of 10-under 61 to win the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic by three strokes at 23-under par. Five birdies on the front nine and five on the back sealed the 10th career win and first this season for Park, who was two strokes off leader Shanshan Feng of China heading into the final round. Feng faltered on the day and was only able to shoot 3 under par 68 to finish at 18 under, slipping into third place. Miamis Christie Kerr blew by Feng with a bogey-free round of 8 under 63 to finish at 20-under par. Park will take home the $225,000 of the $1.5-million moving her up to fourth on the money list this season at $744,510. Kerr earned $136,903 and Feng $99,314. Had it not been for Parks scorching putter, Kerr might have caught her. "It seems like today I just put the putter head on my ball and it just wants to go in the hole. It was just one of those days where I really didnt need to try hard to make it go in. I just needed to really trust my break and just play my own golf," Park said, explaining her barrage of birdies. Park admitted she peeked at the leaderboard from time to time, as she didnt really pull away from the pack until she birdied the 14th hole to go to 22-under par and stretch her lead to four strokes. "I didnt really watch the board all the time. I watched a couple times and I knew everybody was having a good score. I didnt know where Christie was because she wasnt playing with me, but I always knew where Shanshan was." Feng said she was in awe of Parks putting, not believing that she could sink so many birdies. At one point, Park was in position for a coveted and extremely rare 59. "I was joking with her, because she made all the putts almost a I said, Do you have GPS in your ball," Feng said with a laugh. "She said this was her first time to putt this well this year. I said well, I bring you good luck, so she owes me dinner now. Shes going to spend a lot of money." Though she had a hard time keeping pace with Park, Feng wouldnt let up and concede the tournament. "I didnt give up any time during the round," she said. "Three-under wasnt a great score, but I think I did well the whole week." Kerr basically had to tip her hat to Park for her day on the course. "I never looked at the scoreboard until I came off 17 just, with a reachable par 5, to see where I was and I was stunned because I was 7 under for the day (at that point). Youd think youd be close," Kerr said, adding that she did everything she possible could for the last two days, shooting a combined 14-under par. "I guess that second round at 2 under kind of hurt me. But I mean, with this kind of golf course, you have to have four really stellar days and I had three really stellar days. You know, theres only one winner so I have to be pleased with my performance." If Kerr and Feng has anyone to blame for Parks performance this week its Stacy Lewis, who knocked Park out of first in the Rolex rankings last week after 59 weeks as No. 1. "I think, definitely, I really kickstarted maybe the last week," Park said. "I just needed some kind of breakthrough or some kind of motivation to go lower. I played great golf, but just not enough. I feel like Im playing better golf and Ive got a lot of confidence from this week." Also gaining confidence is Sue Kim of Langley, B.C., who was the top Canadian at the tournament, finishing in a tie for 35th at 8 under par after shooting 3 under on the day. Kim said she almost skipped the tournament to have a week of rest after missing the cut the last two weeks in New Jersey and Alabama. "I hit it great out there," Kim said. "I hit the greens in regulation, every day, was improving. I hit 17 greens today and just gave myself a lot of birdie chances." Being the low Canadian on the weekend was special to her. "In Canada, as a Canadian, I always want to represent as well as I can," she said. Behind Kim was Brooke Henderson (68) of Smith Falls, Ont., and Hamiltons Alena Sharp (71) at 6 under, Jennifer Kirby (70) of Paris, Ont., at 4 under, and Brantfords Nicole Vandermade (72) at 2. LOS ANGELES -- The way things have been going for the surging Los Angeles Dodgers over the past seven weeks, they can afford to laugh at themselves once in a while. The NL West leaders -- Juan Uribe, specifically -- were victimized by a rare hidden ball trick Saturday during a 5-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. And they had a little bit of fun at Uribes expense in the clubhouse after the game. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who hit a two-run homer to support Zack Greinkes strong pitching, came over to Uribes locker and posed with a base that had a shoe taped to it. Uribe offered a stern look, and took the prank in stride. "Its a good play. They did a good job," Uribe said. "I made a mistake. Every day you see something different. Ive never seen it before. I got surprised." Rays third baseman Evan Longoria tagged out the unsuspecting 13-year veteran when he lifted his foot off the bag while chatting with coach Tim Wallach in the fourth inning. The rarely seen play occurred after A.J. Ellis hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly, with all three runners moving up as centre fielder Wil Myers threw toward the plate. First baseman James Loney wound up with the ball behind the mound. The former Dodger flipped it to shortstop Yunel Escobar, who then quickly tossed the ball to Longoria while no one seemed to be looking. "Its a play that I always have in the back of my mind through the course of a game," Escobar said through a translator. "Guys were going everywhere, so it happened to be a good situation where I thought we might be able to tag Uribe out. The umpire was standing there and knew what was going on right away, and the only one that didnt know what was going on was Uribe." "Ive tried it four or five other times this year and never got anybody out in the big leagues. But in the minor leagues, I got four or five guys out," Escobar said. Longoria stood behind Uribe and waited for the right moment to trap him. Umpire Angel Hernandez was right on the play, watching the whole time, and made the out call. "I know that Yuni is always looking to do it," Longoria said. "Usually when a play like happens, the pitcher is right around the mound and you dont have a whole lot of time before the umpires call time. I had just walked around behind Uribe, and Hernandez was still walking back from behind the plate to the mound.dddddddddddd" "I was just kind of waving my hand to see if Loney would see me, and he did. But he threw the ball to Yuni -- which was the best part of the play, because it was indirect. Once I got the ball, I just kind of waited there. He barely took his foot off the base and I tagged him. It really was the one highlight of the day for us." Dodgers manager Don Mattingly was just glad Uribes gaffe didnt affect the outcome of the game. The way Greinke was pitching, there was little chance of that. "Its something that you can laugh about now," Mattingly said. "But its like anything that happens in a game. Its something you should learn from. You want to make sure that it doesnt happen again in a big game." Greinke (10-3) scattered six hits through 6 1-3 innings, striking out seven and walking one. The 2009 AL Cy Young winner is 6-1 with a 2.49 ERA in his 10 home starts. "Obviously it feels pretty good, the way were playing," Mattingly said. "Our starting pitching gives us a chance to win every day." The Dodgers bullpen finished the job, lowering its ERA since the All-Star break to 1.89. Former Rays left-hander J.P. Howell retired both batters he faced in the seventh and rookie Chris Withrow pitched two scoreless innings. Skip Schumaker added four hits for the NL West leaders, who clinched another series and are unbeaten in their last 15 series (11-0-4) since dropping two of three at Pittsburgh in mid-June. Tampa Bay lost its fourth straight, matching their longest skid this year. Roberto Hernandez (6-12) gave up five runs and eight hits in four innings. Gonzalez ended a 16-game homer drought when he hit his 16th homer, a two-run shot, and later got his first stolen base of the season. Nick Punto had a two-run single in the third. Louis Blues and Buffalo Sabres came to an agreement on a big trade that may only offer incremental improvement to the Blues in their quest for a Stanley Cup.CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kemba Walker is beginning to emerge as the multifaceted point guard the Charlotte Hornets hoped he would become.Walker is off to the best start of his four-year career, entering the week third in the NBA in assist-per-turnover ratio. He did little to hurt those numbers on Monday night. Walker scored 18 points, handed out nine assists and committed just one turnover as the Hornets coasted to a 110-82 victory over the Denver Nuggets.Growing up, I have always been turnover-prone because I was always playing at one speed, Walker said. Now Im trying to mix up my speeds and make the right passes.Walker has 161 assists on the season to 41 turnovers, nearly a 4 to 1 ratio which ranks behind only Chris Paul and J.J. Barea.I want to take care of the basketball, Walker said. Its really important and something Im trying to be conscious of this year because when we dont turn it over it gives us a higher percentage of winning games.Hornets coach Steve Clifford said Walker is developing into one of the leagues better pick-and-roll point guards.Hes in the paint in every pick-and-roll, Clifford said. And he can score, but hes (also) kicking the ball out to teammates.Al Jefferson shook off some early tightness in his lower body and scored 22 points for the Hornets, who extended their winning streak to a season-high three games. Rookie P.J. Hairston recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.Jefferson and Walker combined to shoot 15 of 25 from the field and neither player saw action in the fourth quarter with the game well in hand.Charlotte improved to 3-0 since Gerald Henderson replaced the injured Lance Stephenson in the starting lineup. Stephenson, who has been the subject of trade rumours, is out at least one more game with a groin injury. While the Hornets appear to be playing their best basketballl without Stephenson, Clifford said the challenge is to work the teams big-name free agent acquisition into the mix and become even better.ddddddddddddIm looking at it and saying as talented as he is, what we can we become playing like this with him playing well also? Clifford said. And also what things are good that he can add to the team and who should he be on the floor with? Thats what we have to figure out.Ty Lawson had 18 points for Denver, which had its two-game winning streak snapped. This one was never close. The Hornets took control early, building a 58-40 lead at halftime behind 57 per cent shooting from the field. Jefferson and Walker led the way, combining to go 12 of 16 from the field for 32 points before the break. With no scoring option to complement Lawson, the Nuggets never mounted a serious comeback attempt in the second half. The Hornets emptied the bench midway through the fourth quarter up by 30 points.I dont know what to say, Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said. You have eyes, you saw it. It was an ugly, nasty game. We just have to flush it down the toilet.___TIP-INSNuggets: Timofey Mozgov suffered a laceration to his left eye during the first quarter and received four stitches. He returned to the game but only played 15 minutes.Hornets: Jeffery Taylor saw his first action of the season following a 24-game suspension. Taylor was rusty, misfiring twice from the field. He also clanked free throw attempts.JEFFERSON SCAREClifford took Jefferson out of the game as a precaution five minutes in after the 6-foot-10 didnt leave his feet on a baseline move and threw up an airball. Jefferson said he simply was tight.Clifford said he wanted to be sure, adding, Im into challenges, but Im not into playing a month without him.UP NEXTNuggets: At Brooklyn on Tuesday night.Hornets: At Milwaukee on Tuesday night. Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Kerry, With just over a second left in the game, the L.A. Kings puck got behind Henrik Lundqvist. Derek Stepan got in, swatting the puck back under Lundqvist with his glove. How is that not a penalty shot??? Andrew Sullivan,London, ON Andrew: Your question relates to rule 67.4 - "If a defending player, except a goalkeeper, while play is in progress, falls on the puck, holds the puck, picks up the puck, or gathers the puck into his body or hands from the ice in the goal crease area, the play shall be stopped immediately and a penalty shot shall be awarded to the non-offending team." In the application and enforcement of this rule it important to note that a player (in this case Derek Stepan) is allowed to push the puck from within (video link) the goal crease with his glove so long as he does not cover the puck (*hand over top). Additionally, once the puck has been "pushed," it is allowed to legally pass with continuous motion beneath and beyond the body of Stepan. The puck was contacted twice by the glove hand of Stepan. The first time, to bat it forward from the goal line which caused the puck to deflect off Lundqvist and back toward the shin pad of Stepan who had assumed a position on both knees. The Ranger player then altered his body position away from the puck and swept it under the equipment of Lundqvist with the cuff of his left glove. At no time did Derek Stepan place his hand over the puck or cover it with his body. That is the reason Referee Wes McCauley did not award a penalty shot to the LA Kings but instead correctly ruled the play dead when the puck came to rest under the blocker of Henrik Lundqvist. The front view replay angle shown one time on NBC demonstrates the puck in continuous motion and at no time covered by Stepan. I cant say enough about the exceptional positioning that Referee McCauley demonstrated on this play. With Tanner Pearson and Marc Staal crashing near the ref along the goal line and outside the crease McCauley quickly blew past the fallen players to attack the net below the goal line. The referee almost stuck his nose into the netting behind the cage to clearly observe the entire proceedings on the puck. The focus, concentration and intensity demonstrated by referee Wes McCauley matched that of the players in this pressure packed moment. McCauley gave not a drop of sweat less than the game required of him. Josh Ferguson Jersey . Cabrera is hitting .218 with three homers and 16 RBI in 80 games this season. The alley-oop looked easy -- just like everything else after halftime for the Miami Heat. Darius Leonard Jersey . MacArthur scored two goals, and the Senators outlasted Detroit in a testy third period to beat the Red Wings 4-2 on Saturday night.(SportsNetwork.com) - Despite having the best record in the NFC, the Arizona Cardinals dont have much room for error in their quest to make the playoffs. The Atlanta Falcons, meanwhile, still have the inside edge at winning the NFC South despite checking in at three games under .500. The playoff hopefuls shoot for a much-needed victory this Sunday when the Cardinals visit the Falcons and the Georgia Dome. Arizona had a six-game winning streak halted with a 19-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday. The dropped the Cardinals to 9-2 on the year, but they are in danger of losing more ground this weekend as the Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving night. That improved Seattle to 8-4 on the year and it could move within a game of first place if Arizona losses to Atlanta. Despite holding an opponent under 20 points for a seventh straight game, the Cardinals were bested by the Seahawks after getting held to just 204 yards of offense and a 23-yard field goal by Chandler Catanzaro in the second quarter. Drew Stanton connected on 14-of-26 passes for 149 yards and an interception for the Cardinals, who lost for the first time since Oct. 5 at Denver. Everybody took turns today. It wasnt one position group or anything like that. Offensively, we didnt play well enough to win, said Stanton. Any time you score three points and come in here and only put up that number, youre not going to be successful. Defensive end Calais Campbell accounted for three of Arizonas season-high seven sacks, but the offense failed to get much done without wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald had his consecutive games played streak halted at 110 due to a knee injury as he sat out a contest for the first time since Dec. 2, 2007 versus Cleveland. The setback denied Arizona in its first bid to record double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1975-76. Atlanta, meanwhile, had a two-game winning streak snapped with Sundays 26-24 setback to Cleveland. The loss dropped the Falcons to 4-7, but they remain tied for first place in the division with the New Orleans Saints. Matt Bryant hit a go-ahead 53-yard field goal for the Falcons with under a minute left to play, but the Browns took over with 44 seconds on the clock and moved close enough to allow Billy Cundiff to convert on a 37-yard field goal try as time expired. Matt Ryan was 27-of-43 passing for 273 yards with one interception and touchdown passes to Julio Jones and Jacquizz Rodgers. This was a tough loss for our team because it felt like it was our game to win, said Atlanta cornerback Desmond Trufant, who had an interception. You have to give the Browns a lot of credit because they found a way to come out on top. I felt like we made a lot of plays in the game but I guess it was not enough. We just couldnt stop them from scoring the last-second field goal. Arizona picked up a 27-13 victory at home over Atlanta on Oct. 27, 2013 and lead the all-time series 15-12. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Ryan and Atlantas seventh-ranked passing offense will try to move the ball against a Cardinals defense that held Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch to just 39 yards last weekend and also has racked up 17 sacks in the past three games. Arizona had just eight sacks through its first eight games and now ranks 11th in total defense and third against the run at 84.5 yards allowed per game. The Cardinals have now allowed a 100-yard rusher in 21 straight games and has held teams under 100 yards rushing total in 10 of 12 games this season. That leaves a lot of pressure on Ryan, who has been picked off nine times in his past two meetings with the Cardinals. He was intercepted five times in a 2012 meeting and another four times last year, marking the only two times in 105 career games he has thrown four or more picks in a game. Ryan also has posted a passer rating below 50.0 just six times, with two of those coming against Arizona. Theyre playing with a lot of confidence, playing at a high level. Defensively, theyre really good at all three levels, Ryan said of Arizonas defense. Theyve done a great job of playing to their system regardless of whos been in there.dddddddddddd Theyre missing some of the guys that have been really productive for them in the past, but the guys that have filled in have played well within the scheme. They put pressure on you with the scheme. Ryan has thrown a touchdown pass in 16 straight games and Jones figures to be one of his main targets as he tries to solve the Arizona defense. Jones has racked up 50 catches for 802 yards and four touchdowns in his past seven games at Georgia Dome. Also, fellow wideout Roddy White has been slowed this week by an ankle injury, but he should play. Atlanta safety William Moore could also return from a shoulder injury that landed him on injured reserve/designated to return after Week 4. Moore has 14 career picks and has 16 tackles in four games this season. The Falcons defense ranks last in total yards (409.9) and passing yards (284.1) allowed per game, but did pick up three interceptions versus the Browns. Trufant and safeties Kemal Ishmael and Dezmen Southward all had picks. Ishmael has intercepted a pass in each of the last three games and leads the team with a career-high four picks, while Trufant has an interception in two consecutive games while leading the team with 12 passes defensed. Their job would be easier this weekend if Fitzgerald didnt play, but the wideout said this week he is much improved. I feel good and everyday its getting stronger and stronger. Im highly likely (to play), but its not my call, said Fitzgerald, who has 46 catches for a team-high 658 yards with two touchdowns. Arizona showed its weakness without Fitzgerald against Seattle as it gained only 64 yards on the ground and ranks 31st in the NFL with 78.4 rushing yards per game. Without running back Jonathan Dwyer since mid-September following his arrest on domestic violence charges, the Cardinals have seen running back Andre Ellington rush for just 648 yards on 196 carries this season while matching Fitzgeralds 46 receptions. Ellington did have 154 yards rushing, including an 80-yard TD, last season versus the Falcons and should finally get some help down the road after Arizona signed veteran Michael Bush for the rest of the season. The 245-pound Bush has not played since last season with Chicago, so there is a pretty solid chance he wont be active against the Falcons. We didnt sign him for this week. We signed him for the long haul, so well have him ready when we need him and well go from there, said Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians. It would be hard to have a guy who didnt play in OTAs and didnt have a training camp, for me to give him the ball on Sunday would be pretty hard. OVERALL ANALYSIS Arizona has had success in winning the games it should win, with its lone losses coming against last seasons Super Bowl participants. The Cards responded with a nice winning streak after the loss to Denver and may need the same kind of effort to hold off Seattle. When we lost to Denver, we lost pretty bad, but we bounced back, won six straight, special teamer Justin Bethel told Arizonas website. We knew going into Seattle it would be a tough game. Its one of the hardest places to play in the NFL. This late in the season, Arizona cant afford to look past Atlanta despite upcoming games against Kansas City, San Francisco and Seattle. The Falcons know they are lucky to be in the position they are in as far as playoff chances and could be a motivated team down the stretch. You cant help but understand where youre at. Moving forward weve got everything we want right in front of us, said Ryan. Obviously, we cant change the previous 11 games, and what weve done up until this point; I just hope that we can control what we do moving forward. The Falcons have a chance to pull off the upset if the Cardinals offense struggles for another week in a hostile environment. That will depend on Ryan having a good game, but he has won two of three in his career versus the Cardinals and Atlanta should be able to put up just enough points at home. But in the case of Hurtado, its what the coach is NOT saying that may be the secret to a superb run of form.Organizers of the 2022 World Cup distanced themselves Tuesday from allegations of corruption involving two former high-ranking FIFA officials that raised new questions about Qatars winning bid for the tournament. The Daily Telegraph newspaper in Britain alleged Tuesday it has evidence that former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner of Trinidad and Tobago and his family were paid almost $2 million from a company controlled by Mohamed Bin Hammam, a Qatari who used to be an executive committee member of world footballs governing body. According to documents seen by the newspaper, a note from one of Warners companies, Jamad, to Bin Hammams firm, Kemco, requested $1.2 million for work carried out between 2005 and 2010. The note was dated Dec. 15, 2010, two weeks after Qatar was awarded the World Cup. The payment was made in 2011. Payments totalling $750,000 were paid to Warners sons and a further $400,000 to one of his employees, the Telegraph alleged. The transactions were processed via a bank in New York and have come to the attention of the FBI, which the newspaper alleged is investigating Warner and his links to the Qatar bid. Qatari organizers said Tuesday their bid "strictly adhered to FIFAs bidding regulations in compliance with their code of ethics." "The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and the individuals involved in the 2022 Bid Committee are unaware of any allegations surrounding business dealings between private individuals," the statement said. Warner said a "witch hunt" was being waged against Qatar. "I have no interest in joining in the foolishness that is now passing as news on Qatar and Jack Warner," he said in a statement to Britains Press Association. FIFA said it had no comment on the allegations. "In principle, any evidence of potential wrongdoing can be submitted to the investigatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee of FIFA for further investigation," it said in a statement. The latest allegations will bring fresh scrutiny on the 2010 vote, which currently is under investigation by FIFAs independent ethics prosecutor, and has put Warner and Bin Hammam -- two of the most controversial figures in FIFAs recent history -- back in the spotlight. Warner and Bin Hammam are no longer FIFA members. They were caught up in a corruption scandal surrounding Bin Hammams failed campaign for the FIFA presidency in 2011. Qatarr defeated bids from the United States, Japan, South Korea and Australia to host the World Cup, allowing FIFA to take the 2022 tournament to a new country.dddddddddddd The decision has been marred by persistent allegations that the voting process was flawed as well as concerns over the sweltering summer heat in the tiny Gulf nation, where temperatures can hit 120 degrees F (49 C). FIFA is expected to move the tournament from its traditional June-July period to the winter months, with the exact dates yet to be finalized. Concerns have also been raised about the working conditions, poor living standards and non-payment of wages for people helping to build the stadiums for the World Cup. As then-president of the CONCACAF regional body, which includes the U.S. Soccer Federation, Warner would have been expected to lead efforts within FIFAs ruling board to help the American bid win the 2022 contest. Qatar defeated the American bid 14-8 in the final round of secret balloting by 22 FIFA board members. Two of the then 24-man board were suspended after being implicated in a cash-for-votes sting by British newspaper The Sunday Times. Warner resigned from football duties, including his 28-year membership of FIFAs board, in June 2011 to avoid investigation in a bribery scandal linked to Bin Hammams campaign for FIFA president. The Qatari official launched his challenge against FIFA President Sepp Blatter three months after helping his country secure the World Cup. Bin Hammam withdrew his presidential candidacy just days before the vote after being suspended by FIFAs ethics committee. He was implicated in offering Caribbean football federations $40,000 each in cash at a May 2011 campaign meeting organized by Warner in Trinidad. The World Cup bid contests for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments are being investigated by Michael Garcia, a former U.S. Attorney who was appointed as FIFAs independent ethics prosecutor in July 2012. Garcia and his investigation team have been conducting interviews worldwide with officials from the 2018-2022 bid nations and FIFA executive committee members. Russia is to host the 2018 World Cup. Garcia is expected to submit a report later this year to FIFAs independent ethics judge, Joachim Eckert, who can recommend possible sanctions. Blatter has said the World Cup cannot be taken away from Qatar or Russia. FIVE QUICK HOOPS THOUGHTS 1. CARMELO ANTHONY: As Knicks fans worry about the potential departure with his decision to opt out, I see this as a blessing in disguise. As currently constructed, the Knicks have NO shot at being a legitimate contender. Yes. The organization gave up a kings ransom to get a major Asset yet when you reflect on his time in NY hes been a terrific scoring talent and theyve had their share of ups and downs and in his defense - not all his fault. He is what he is at this stage of his career -- a brilliant scorer who plays very hard on the offensive end of the court. In the end, sometimes in sports, business and life the best strategy is to cut your losses and move on. With Tyson Chandler, Amare Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani all off the books next season, it allows president Phil Jackson to shape the organization in his image which is the right move. The key is to avoid all the noise from the NY media with demands to go for Big Name $$ Quick Fixes and make thoughtful basketball decisions. This organization tries too often to Win the Back Page rather than do whats smart. Yes, a terrific talent could walk out the door for little or nothing yet in 12 months you get to truly build the right foundation for long term success. Good common sense. 2. CHICAGO BULLS: Youll hear their name lots in the next 10 days when Melos name comes up and if I were Melo this makes complete sense to me as long as hes willing to take a pay cut that he can earn some back in quality endorsements if hes a significant piece on a major-league winning team in Chicago. Against the Knicks, a quick comparison: Money: NY, ownership: Chicago…. not close, management: Chicago…. Sorry, but Phil Jackson has never been a president/GM, coach: Chicago…. not close, team talent level: Chicago. If Derrick Rose can even get back to being 80 per cent of what he was, this is a nice edge. In my mind, the Bulls make the most sense if -- and its a big IF -- hes willing to sacrifice. Hell be held totally accountable here on a daily basis. No nonsense. Defining moment for him in his career. 3. KEVIN LOVE: Where there is smoke …. If Im the TWolves, I move him as soon as I can and get on with the business of reshaping my team while his value is at its highest. Many folks say wait until the trade deadline, yet Im not sure youll get better than the next few weeks. I think you owe it to yourself and your fans to cut the cord as soon as you can. Believe me; if they really want him, theyll blink and offer you close (not all) of what you want. Be proactive. In 12 months, hell be out the door. Deal with it and rid yourself of the drama. Terrific talent, yet hes got you to how many playoff appearances? Sure, the other 14 teammates matter a whole lot in the Western Conference but its time to be realistic and based upon your market build a team rather than the concern with having name guys. 4. ZACH RANDOLPH (Grizzlies): Trying to get an extension worked out in Memphis. Makes perfect sense to me. All the guy does is produce and hes done it in the context of winning/playoffs. A double-double machine who is one of the toughest covers in the league, hes been very good for you. A piece you cant lose. If the term and money make sense, do it. 5. JOEL EMBIID: Feel awful for this young man. Watching him play this year at the University of Kansas hes an intriguing talent with loads of major potential that I love. On the other hand, with some teams freaked out by the injuries to bigs like Sam Bowie and Greg Oden over the years with the complete - and I mean complete - change in the way the NBA game is played on the perimeter it might benefit him to fall a bit to a team that will be patient with him and allow him to work his way in at the right pace as a rookie. Hes got a chance to be very good, yet in a different league that bigs came into 20 years ago. If he drops a bit, someones going to be quite lucky if he holds up physically. Risk vs. Reward. Can change in a very positive way or end some careers with this pick. Will be interesting to watch unfold. Troy Apke Redskins Jersey . The Durban-based Sharks withstood a furious second-half fightback to beat the Queensland Reds 35-20 for a fourth straight win which gave them a five-point lead atop the championship table. As TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger tweeted Friday morning, there may be a change of heart in Pittsburgh as hes hearing Willie Desjardins is no longer a slam dunk for the head coaching job following his meeting with the Penguins Thursday night. Dreger adds that as of Thursday night, Desjardins was Pittsburghs target but perhaps his interest in the Canucks coaching job scuttled the Penguins plan. Broadway Bucks Craig Custance of ESPN.com speculates that if the New York Rangers use their second and final compliance buyout on Brad Richards, they could use some of the money saved to go after unrestricted free agents like Paul p;Stastny, Dan Boyle or Mikhail Grabovski.dddddddddddd Floor Issues As John Vogl of The Buffalo News points out, the Sabres are about $16 million under the expected $52 million salary floor for next season. As it stands, their payroll for next season is $36 million, which covers 17 players. Vogl adds that if the team sends qualifying offers to restricted free agents Cory Conacher, Jamie McBain and Chad Ruhwedel, theyre still more than $12 million from the floor with Tyler Ennis and Marcus Foligno left to re-sign. Peter Prinicple As Tracy Myers of Comcast SportsNet.com writes, there have been no contractual discussions yet between the Blackhawks and Peter Regin, though his agent Craig Oster said things should become clearer over the next week as the NHL draft approaches. Lavoy Allen converted a putback layup with 1:05 remaining to make it a 74-70 deficit for the visitors. Donald Sloan pulled down a Miles miss in the closing seconds and nailed a trey to make it a one-point game with 1.2 seconds left. Arron Afflalo proceeded to knock down a pair of free throws with under a second on the clock to push the advantage to three. Miles was again off the mark from beyond the arc as the buzzer sounded and the Nuggets won their sixth straight over the Pacers at home. We just didnt play well enough to win. We have to play better, Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. (It) was a tough shooting night, but we gotta keep grinding. In a forgetful first half, Indiana brought a slim 33-32 lead into the halftime break. West had 11 points in the first quarter to help the Pacers to a 21-15 edge. Indiana then got cold. shooting just 3-for-19 (15.8 percent) from the floor in the second, but Denver didnt do much better and managed to trim the deficit to one after two quarters. JOHNS, N.L. -- Carl Klingberg didnt want to miss out on the fun. Klingberg scored with 30 seconds left to cap a 6-2 win for the St. Johns IceCaps, who scored by committee Tuesday night against the Syracuse Crunch in American Hockey League action. Jason Jaffray, Adam Lowry, Kris Fredheim, Will ONeill and Ryan Schnell also scored for the IceCaps (13-10-3). Klingberg said its a good night when a team has six different goal-scorers. "It was good to see a lot of players score and it gets people going," he said. "I felt like I wanted one all game and I had a couple of chances, including a breakaway I missed. Im always looking to work hard and scoring a goal is fun." IceCaps head coach Keith McCambridge was happy with his teams offence, but he was more content with getting the win. "(Im happy) just having the win and being able to execute on the power play to get us goals," McCambridge said. "I like that we defended well and that we limited shots against. Those are good features in your game. The details were there and I thought we paid really good attention to that tonight." For Fredheim and Schnell, it was their first goals of the year. Schnell is more known for his physical game -- he leads the team with 88 penalty minutes. "I really like the way Schnell has been playing," McCambridge said. "Hes a physical guy, provides energy and keeps otther teams honest.dddddddddddd For him to score, thats good for him but Im never concerned with him scoring goals. "Kris Fredheim has quarterbacked that power play for us for a little while and I thought he looked really poised back there and its nice to see him able to step into a shot and get rewarded." Mike Angelidis and Cedric Paquette answered for the Crunch (11-9-3). Jaffray opened the scoring for the IceCaps, connecting on a one-time slapshot 8:23 into the first period that beat Kristers Gudlevskis high over the blocker on the power play. SAN DIEGO - The Pirates West Coast road trip has been filled with sunshine and smiles. Neil Walker and Pedro Alvarez hit two-run homers to back Gerrit Coles solid outing and Pittsburgh beat the San Diego Padres 4-1 on Tuesday night. The Piartes have won the first two games of this three-game series after three of four in Los Angeles. The trip in New York, where the Pirates lost two of three to the Mets. "We didnt play our best ball in New York and we had to move on from there," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "We got some traction, got some starts we needed and the bullpen is working very efficiently and the offence continues to show up." Cole (6-3) limited the Padres to one run and four hits while striking out six in 5 2-3 innings as the Pirates went to 6-1 in his last seven starts. Pittsburgh won its third straight game and 10th in its last 14. Jason Grilli pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his ninth save. Jesse Hahn (0-1) lasted 2 2-3 innings in his major league debut for San Diego. He allowed four runs on six hits, including the homers by Alvarez and Walker, striking out five with two walks. "It was just good to be out there," Hahn said. "Its what I worked for and its good to get the first one out of the way." The Padres lost for the third consecutive time and sunk a season-high seven games under .500. Cole breezed through the first five innings with only two Padres reaching scoring position. But with two outs in the sixth inning, consecutive singles by Chase Headley, Seth Smith and Yonder Alonso ended Coles night, with Alonso driving in Headley to pull the Padres to within 4-1. Jared Hughes relieved Cole and got Jedd Gyorko on a grounder to second to end the rally. "I had good stuff tonight and stuck around long enough to win but I wasnt very effective at all with a four-run lead," Cole said. "That was pretty frustrating and I uncharacteristically ran out of stuff at the end." He retired 10 straight at one point and only two Padres get into scoring position over the first five innings. Alvarez doubled the Pirates lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning, hitting a fastball over the right-field fence for a two-run homer. Alvarezs 11th home run on the year scored Russell Martin, after he opened the inning with a walk. Hahn gave up two more hits, to Jordy Mercer -- his sixth in seven at-bats -- and Josh Harrison, before being lifted for Jason Lane. Walker became the eighth different Pirates player to hit their last eight home runs when he connected in the third inning for his 11th of the season. Walkers two-run, opposite-field blast to left came off Hahns curveball. "It was easier the second time around to see what he wanted to do," Walker said Once Hahn exited, Lane worked 3 1-3 perfect innings in his first major league appearance since Oct. 1, 2007, and first as a pitcher. Lane switched to pitching after 497 games as an outfielder. "Jason did a great job," Padres manager Bud Black said. "Just what we needed." With Hahn and Lane making their major league debuts as pitchers, it was first time since Sept. 4, 1971 that two Padres did that on the same day. NOTES: Padres RHP Andrew Cashner could start as soon as Saturday against the Nationals. Cashner will test his mending elbow in a Wednesday side session before getting the OK for Saturday. . LHP Eric Stults was placed on bereavement leave after the death of his grandmother. He isnt expected to miss a start. . OF Carlos Quentin was out of the lineup but is expected to start on Wednesday; he struck out as a pinch hitter in the eighth. . RHP Stolmy Pimentel (sore right shoulder) will pitch three innings for Class A Bradenton on Friday. ... Padres RHP Ian Kennedy (4-6, 3.42) faces Pirates LHP Francisco Liriano (1-5, 4.62) in Wednesdays finale of the three-game series. Jason Grilli Jersey . CNN and Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Tancredi Palmeri broke the news via Twitter Tuesday afternoon. Italian Football Association President Giancarlo Abete has also resigned, according to Palmeri. Jurickson Profar Jersey . Although taking two of three from the Baltimore Orioles wasnt nearly as uplifting as winning the World Series, it still felt pretty darn good. Felix Doubront and four relievers combined kept Baltimores potent lineup in check, and David Ortiz had three of Bostons 12 hits off Wei-Yin Chen in a 4-3 victory Thursday night. http://www.authenticrangerspro.com/range...-wilson-jersey/. Many of those eyes are in the United States of America, a country that the sport has wanted on its side for some time. NEW YORK -- The New York Knicks are preparing to buy out the contracts of veterans Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih. Neither player was available Saturday for the Knicks 107-98 loss in Atlanta. "Were going in a different direction and weve got to figure out another spot or two for our ballclub," coach Mike Woodson said before the game. World Peace wrote on his Twitter account earlier Saturday that his agent was working on a buyout and thanked fans and the city. Neither veteran has earned a place in Woodsons rotation in his first season in New York. Udrih has appeared in just 31 games, while World Peace, who had a procedure on his knee in January, has played in just 29. "I cant say anything went wrong," Woodson said. "Again, they werent in the rotations. Im not going to linger on it. I mean, were buying them out. As a coach, guys work for me, I wish them nothing but the best as they move on and were going to move on. So thats about the extent of it." Players have to be waived by March 1 if they hope to sign with another team and be elligible for the playoffs.dddddddddddd World Peace is a New York native who played at St. Johns, and had long hoped for a homecoming. It didnt turn out to be a happy one with the Knicks, as his 7 minutes of playing time Friday in a double-overtime loss at Orlando was only the sixth game hed gotten into in 2014. All-Star Carmelo Anthony said he was surprised because World Peace seemed to be in good spirits a day earlier. "He was happy, He played," Anthony said. "On the bench, in the locker room, he was a different Metta. Maybe because he had the chance to get out there and play a little bit. But I wake up this morning and hear that he wanted a buyout, it took me by surprise." Udrih hasnt played since Jan. 24. There was speculation the point guard would be traded before Thursdays trade deadline. "Its sad to see them go. But look, this is the business of basketball, man," Anthony said. "For whatever reason, I dont know whats the reason that they wanted to get bought out. But it happened and weve got to move on from there."
