BOSTON - Jake Peavy will start Game 3 of the World Series for the Boston Red Sox. Red Sox manager John Farrell confirmed before Game 2 on Thursday night that he is flipping Peavy and Clay Buchholz. Farrell said Buchholz, who has an undisclosed ailment, could use an extra day of rest. Buchholz gave up five runs in eight innings and two runs in five innings in his AL championship series starts against Detroit. Peavy gave up seven runs in three innings in his only ALCS start. Asked before the World Series opener against the Cardinals whether Buchholz had an injury, Farrell said, "Not to the point of keeping him out of starting." Cody Latimer Giants Jersey . Rudy Gay made the tying basket in regulation and a 3-pointer in overtime that gave Sacramento the lead for good, and Fredette scored a career-high 24 points to help the Kings beat the Knicks 106-101 on Wednesday night. Alec Ogletree Jersey . The Leafs were back on the ice Wednesday following an 10-day break. It apparently wasnt long enough, as Team Canadas 2-1 win over Latvia didnt conclude before the Leafs began practice. "I was thinking we might get a little delay, but it was nice to get out there," said Tyler Bozak of watching Wednesdays game.TORONTO - Nazem Kadri has been able to get under Sidney Crosbys skin before. Proof of that came on HBOs 24/7 show last year when the Pittsburgh Penguins star called the Toronto Maple Leafs centre a dummy and a joke. There were some expletives in there, too, as Crosby vented his frustration with Kadri to Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf. I was matched up against him and Im an agitator and Im going to do anything I can to try and get him thinking about me and not the game, Kadri said. I think it originally started with just a hit he threw on the boards and he thought I kind of embellished a little bit. Words were exchanged and thats really when it just all started to heat up. With the Penguins in town Saturday night, the Leafs will be able to pester and annoy the reigning Hart Trophy winner once again. Not only does Kadri relish the opportunity to mess with Crosbys head, noted gnat Leo Komarov could also be a bother. With Sid, youve got to play him hard, Phaneuf said Friday. I think that when you play him hard and try and limit his time and space, thats when you can do a good job of making him move the puck and not hold onto it and create chances because when you give him time hes going to create things. Komarov is the kind of player the Leafs missed last season when the forward was in the KHL. Already through the pre-season and one regular-season game, teammates appreciate his antics. You almost laugh to yourself sometimes on the bench when you see him flying around out there and guys are getting all upset, winger James van Riemsdyk said. He looks like a little angel out there, but thats far from the case. I think thats why you see a lot of guys try to whack him and take runs at him and he just keeps on ticking. Van Riemsdyk said opponents arent sure what to say to Komarov because they dont know if he speaks English. Plus, Komarov doesnt add any banter and does it all with a straight face. Thats part of why its so funny, van Riemsdyk said. Kadri said he started agitating as soon as he started playing contact hockey as a kid because of a lesson his father taught him. He said if things arent going your way, you go out and try and establish yourself, get into the game with a big bodycheck or a verbal encounter or somethinng like that just to get your emotions to where they want to be, Kadri said.dddddddddddd When Im at my best, I can agitate and have other guys worry about me. And at the same time I can go out there and make a play and make a difference and have an impact on the game. That would be welcome against the Penguins, who showed off plenty of firepower in beating the Anaheim Ducks 6-4 on Thursday night in coach Mike Johnstons debut behind the bench. Crosby had two goals and an assist. He came back with a bang last night, Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said. He was a dynamic force to handle. Crosby isnt quite a three-point-a-game player all-time against the Leafs, but he has 20 goals and 23 assists in 28 previous meetings. In 13 games at Air Canada Centre, Pittsburghs captain has 17 points. Hes a good player, Kadri said. Anything to get him off his game is going to be good with us. If Carlyle continues what he did against the Montreal Canadiens, the top line of van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak and Kessel could again draw the assignment of the opponents stars. In this case it would be Chris Kunitz, Crosby and Patric Hornqvist. If we play against them were going to have to play good defence and try to turn it into a bit of offence, Kessel said. You want to have the puck. If they have the puck its tough to defend them. The Leafs mantra in defending Crosby has to do with keeping someone as close to him as possible. Crowd him as much as possible, dont give him the freedom that he enjoys, and when you do give him freedom hes a very dangerous player, Carlyle said. He might be the most dangerous player in the league. Notes: Right-winger Richard Panik (whose surname is pronounced PAWN-ihk) skated on the Leafs fourth line alongside Daniel Winnik and Peter Holland in his first practice since being claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning. With Panik expected to play there against the Penguins, Matt Frattin figures to be a healthy scratch. ... Injured blue-liner Cody Franson (knee) reported more progress, but Carlyle said the defenceman is more likely to be available Sunday against the New York Rangers rather than against Pittsburgh. That would mean rookie Stuart Percy remains in the lineup for his second career NHL game. If Evander Kane wants to remain in Winnipeg with the Jets, he isnt giving any straight answers about it. In an interview with Vancouvers TEAM 1040 on Tuesday, the NHL winger was vague on the question of whether or not he wanted to play for the team anymore. "Well, I think Im a Winnipeg Jet right now," Kane told host Matt Sekeres on TEAM 1040. "And, you know, theres been speculation and rumours the three years since I got there. So, you know, well see what happens and well carry on as if Im a Winnipeg Jet." "Theres not a yes in there," added Sekeres. "And some Jets fans might say you know, why doesnt he want to play for us? Why isnt he absolutely fully on board for playing for us? Youre shaking your finger at me." "No, I think..." answered Kane. "...Im training hard and getting ready for this season. Last summer I didnt have a full summer of training due to some surgery I had, so I found it really important for me to start training early and get myself in the best shape possible for the upcoming season." Kane, who signed a six-year, $31.5 million contract with the Jets in 2012, has been the subject of trade rumours since last season. He scored 19 goals and added 22 assists in 63 games with the Jets in 2013-14. In five NHL seasons, hes hit the 30-goal mark once - during the 2011-2012 campaign. In 324 career games with the franchise, the 22-year-old has 99 goals and 200 points. David de Gea Jersey . While coach Doc Rivers high-fived fans and pumped his fist at the crowd, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul quietly congratulated each other.Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca! Hi Kerry, In Saturday nights game between the Canadiens and Flyers, there was a shot from PK Subban at the point that went wide and was stuck in the side of the net forcing a whistle. At this point, Montreal was on a power play and up 2-0 in the game. My question is, why did the face-off after this whistle stay in the Flyers end? If a shot from a Canadiens player goes over the glass or onto the back of the net and is blown dead, the face-off should come outside, shouldnt it? I am just wondering how this case is different as it did not touch a Flyers player before becoming lost in the side of the net. This was a very pivotal point in the game as the Canadiens scored shortly after the next draw which remained in the Flyers zone, putting the game pretty much out of reach. Thanks for taking the time to answer my e-mail and I look forward to your response. Brett WalkerMelita, MB Brett, You are correct in your understanding and interpretation of Rule 85 - Puck Out of Bounds. The ensuing face-off should have been conducted on the neutral zone spot nearest to the Flyers blue line once the puck became lodged under the protective netting skirt directly off the shot by PK Subban (which was not deflected by a Flyers player or goalie Ray Emery). Im giving the game officials a free pass on this one as a result of some miscommunication they apparently received during the video review process from the situation room. You need to give them a pass this time around as well! First, you need to understand the variations in the rule that could apply in this situation. The overriding premise regarding face-off location when a puck goes out of bounds or becomes unplayable is to provide the team at fault with the least amount of territorial advantage. An unplayable puck is one that becomes lodged in the netting on the outside of either goal. This understanding is verified in Rule 85.5 - "Should an attacking player cause the puck to go out of play or become unplayable in the attacking zone, the face-off shall take place at a neutral zone face-off spot or at a face-off spot in the zone from which the puck left the ice, whichever is less advantageous to the attacking team. For a puck that is unplayablle due to being lodged in the netting or as a result of it being frozen between opposing players, the resulting face-off shall be at either of the adjacent face-off spots unless in the opinion of the Referee, the stoppage was caused by the attacking team, in which case the resulting face-off shall be conducted in the neutral zone…" PK Subban clearly caused the stoppage of play in this situation.dddddddddddd (An exception to this rule is when the puck deflects off the goal post or crossbar, when cause by either team, either shot directly or deflected off any player or official, the face-off is always to be conducted in that end zone at the nearest face-off spot. Rule 85.1) The next logical question we ask is why the face-off remained in the Flyers end zone following video review and a lengthy conference between the Officials to determine puck drop location? We need to look no further than the explanation posted on the NHL Situation Room blog which states: "At 4:42 of the third period in the Flyers/Canadiens game, video review determined that P.K. Subbans shot entered through the side of the net. No goal Montreal." In looking at the replay, it is clear that the puck did not enter the net but was trapped on the outside of the mesh between the protective skirting. As a result of the Situation Room written explanation, it is only logical to assume that Referee Eric Furlatt would have been informed that the shot entered through the side of the net! Furlatt would communicate this information to his colleagues on the ice during their conference. Given this flawed information, the correct face-off location rule application (oxymoron) would be found in a portion of Rule 85.2 that states; "Should the puck go under the goal either from behind or the side or through the mesh from behind or the side, the ensuing face-off should take place at the nearest face-off spot in the zone nearest to the location where the play was stopped." That location would be in the Flyers end zone to the right of Ray Emery! Whatever the reason Brett, the incorrect face-off location resulted once PK Subban caused the stoppage of play in the attacking zone when his direct shot became caught in the outside netting and rendered unplayable. It would appear to have been lost somewhere in the communication. The decision has always been that I would leave after the duration of my contract and although that was never going to change, I didnt want it to distract from the progress of the team. The Black and Yellows trailed by 13 at the break and despite a sensational Thunder fightback it was Surrey who held on and claim back-to-back titles. We were atrocious in that first quarter and Storm did a great job in shutting us down but we were so hesitant, we didnt let the ball go, everything that we spoke about doing the girls just didnt execute and thats a Grand Final. We addressed a few things at half-time and we took a big deep breath and got on with business. They were sensational in that second half, they really did show their class to fight their way back and we were so close. Perhaps another extra couple of minutes and it could have been a different story. Highlights from the Vitality Netball Superleague as Surrey Storm played Manchester Thunder in the Grand Final Full credit to Storm, they earned that win tonight and deserved to be reigning champions. The players are devastated, were all devastated, we came here with a job to do and that was to win the title and we felt as though we had the players to do it, but it just wasnt our day. Storm retain Superleague crown Surrey Storm beat Manchester Thunder to win Netball Superleague Ryan also spoke about a controversial umpiring decision in the dying seconds, where Storm appeared to incomplete their centre pass through Sophia Candappa. With Thunder just one goal behind, possesssion for them would have offered Thunder the opportunity to level-up the scores and force extra time.dddddddddddd Reaction from both camps after Surrey Storm survived a late onslaught by Manchester Thunder to successfully defend their title And Ryan feels there is now a need for a fourth umpire in Netball due to the changing nature of the game.In the context of the big pictures, its absolutely devastating for us. We had enormous momentum at that stage and a little over 20 seconds to level the match. Its just a little devastating that the game ends on that sour note but it was a big error and big oversight and one we just have to suck up and move on from. SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain -- Granada salvaged a 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad on Monday, earning a valuable point in its bid to avoid dropping from the Spanish league. Odion Ighalo turned to flick a weak shot beyond goalkeeper Claudio Bravo for the 93rd-minute equalizer that moved the Andalucians three points above the drop zone. "Staying up is still a possibility," Ighalo told Spanish broadcaster Cuatro after scoring from what TV replays showed could have been an offside position. "Were going to fight right until the end." Granada was reduced to 10-men in the 54th when Recio was shown a second yellow card for protesting, just three minutes before Sociedad defender Mikel Gonzalez also exited after his hard challenge earned a straight red card. Sociedad had gone ahead in the 77th when Carlos Vela squeezed a cross inside the near post, but Ighalos late dramatics meant the Basque club must wait another round before its place in next seasons Europa League is secured. Sixth-place Real enjoys a five-point advantage over Villarreal for the leagues last European place and sits two points behind Sevilla. Granada, meanwhile, has 38 points to sit above Almeria and Getafe, which share 36 points. Osasuna is 18th with 35 points in the final drop spot. Atletico Madrid leads on 88 points, while Barcelona has 85. Real Madrid has 83 points but plays one more game than Atletico and Barcelona, at Real Valladolid on Wednesday. James Washington Jersey . Even though, the 2014 edition enjoyed three days of practice and four skates, in total, before the opener, Sidney Crosby and Co. were not sharp in their 3-1 win against Norway at the Bolshoy Ice Palace on Thursday. There was little authority from Canada. There were some nerves. But slow starts have been the case in the past three Winter Games, when Canada usually had only a day or two of on-ice sessions before the game-action began. Norway deserves credit for its determined game and defensive zone coverage. But even though the Canadians outshot their opponents 38-20, their power play (0-for-2) was abysmal and their scoring touch around Norwegian goalie Lars Haugen was missing in action. Canadian head coach Mike Babcock revealed afterwards that his club mustered only 24 scoring chances. Canada pulled out the victory because the fourth lline of Jamie Benn, John Tavares and Patrice Bergeron came to play, despite limited ice time, and the defence played an active and effective game offensively.dddddddddddd At best-on-best tournaments like the Olympics, Canadian players remark time and time again that they want to get better as the tournament goes on. Sometimes they overcome slow starts, like in 2002 and 2010. Sometimes they dont, like in 2006. Hendriks allowed a solo homer to Brandon Moss in the fourth inning. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and left to a standing ovation in the sixth inning. "That was incredible," he said. "I got tingles all over my body for that. This is such a good crowd up here. Its fantastic. They know their baseball up here." Hendriks, who spent parts of the last three seasons with the Twins, earned the callup with a sparkling 5-0 record and 1.48 earned-run average this season with the Bisons. He hopes to take full advantage of this second chance in the big leagues. "Its a huge thing for me," he said. "I was given opportunities in Minnesota and I didnt capitalize on them. Now Ive got a different mindset coming into the season of just getting ready, getting aggressive and getting after guys early. "I think its paid dividends so far and hopefully I can continue this trend and stay up here all year." Toronto manager John Gibbons was impressed. "I would definitely say hes earned another start," he said. The Blue Jays have won four straight games, nine of their last 11 and improved to 11-11 at home this season. Toronto (27-22) is five games over .500 for the first time in over two years. The Blue Jays also lead the American League East division. The last time they were alone in first place this deep into the season was way back on July 6, 2000. It was Tollesons first home run in a Toronto uniform and first in the majors since he went deep on June 10, 2012 with Philadelphia.dddddddddddd "We have a tremendous lineup, I mean Melky (Cabrera), Jose (Bautista), Eddie (Encarnacion), all of these guys have been swinging the bat really well," said Tolleson, who batted seventh. "When the bottom of the order can get on base and they can drive us in or produce some runs ourselves that just helps everybody." Scott Kazmir (5-2) shouldered the loss for American League West-leading Oakland (30-18). He allowed five hits and three earned runs over seven innings. However, it was the southpaws throwing error in the third inning that allowed the eventual winning run to score. With Kevin Pillar aboard after a double, Kazmir threw to second base on a pickoff attempt but no one was covering the bag. Pillar ran to third on the play and scored when Jose Reyes hit a slow grounder to the right side of the infield. "That turned out to be costly," Kazmir said. "I should have held on to it. It ended up being the difference-maker in the game." Jed Lowrie was playing shortstop and Nick Punto was at second base. "(Kazmir) thought that I was going to go to the base and I was just there to hold (Pillar) on just a little bit longer because he was extending his lead," Lowrie said. "I wanted to stay there. He looked back and thought I was going to break and I didnt have any plans to." The Athletics made it a one-run game in the eighth inning and threatened in the ninth. Coco Crisp hit a two-out double off Casey Janssen and stole third but the Toronto closer got Lowrie to ground out for his sixth save in six opportunities. Notes: Toronto knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (4-4) will get the start Saturday afternoon against Jesse Chavez (4-1). ... The Blue Jays will host Tampa Bay and Kansas City during the homestand next week. ... Hendriks allowed three walks and had three strikeouts. ... Moss has 11 homers on the season. ... Bautista, who walked in the third inning, has reached base safely in 48 of 49 games this season. FIVE QUICK NBA THOUGHTS 1. KEVIN DURANT VS. LEBRON JAMES: Lots of attention for Wednesdays game matching up the two best players in the world. As I said last week, KD gets my slight edge as the MVP this year but you cant go wrong with either guy. Above and beyond the wonderful skills and smarts that both guys possess the thing I respect about both is their sheer passion and love for the game and their respect for the fact that youve got to pay the price and continue to improve yourself every season as a player. Both continue to grow/blossom as players, adding new elements to their skill set each year. The old line about input equalling output is so true in the case of these two men. Strong work ethic and dedication to their craft. Enjoy watching. 2. INDIANA PACERS: Caught some of their game last night at the Lakers and theyve got a wonderful defence but the thing that has really impressed me with the return of Danny Granger is the unselfishness and value of team play offensively. Everyone is involved and the ball finds the right guy at the right spot. Six players were in double figures last night and Luis Scola had eight points. They can shut down your offence big-time and the versatility and balance of their offence is a nice luxury to have. 3. ANTHONY DAVIS (Hornets): Folks, hes breaking out. This man can truly play. On Tuesday night he gets 30 points, seven rebounds and eight blocks vs. the Cavs. Injuries have been the only thing that have derailed his progress in his first two seasons. If this guy played in a major market youd be hearing about him every day with his upside. Hes a nifty passer as well with really nice ball skills and good understanding of team play. If he stays healthy, hes going to emerge in the next few seasons as one of the best big men in the game for a long time. 4. BRADLEY BEAL & JOHN WALL (Wizards): Caught some of their game on Tuesday against the Warriors (stayed up late watching a bunch of West Coast hoops) and when these two young guards play together and are healthy they are special. Against the explosive back court of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson they more than held their own with 35 points, 15 rebounds, nine assists and four steals. The Wizards are an intriguing team in the East and having a veteran like Trevor Ariza having a nice season on the perimeter for them they can produce points pretty consistently. Against a pretty good defensive team that also puts great offensive pressure on you, this was a good road win for the Wiz. Guard play wins lots of games and theyve got it. 5. DAVID STERN: Bottom line, every player, coach, executive, owner, broadcaster, and support staff member of each NBA team and all the members of the NBA media as well as countless loyal basketball fans around the world should raise a glass and toast the career and legacy of this commissioner. He was the best ever in NBA history and arguably the best ever in professional sports. Not the most warm and fuzzy guy on earth but the man delivered the goods for everyone. The game, attention on the sport and the coverage it creates and gets are overwhelmingly better than theyve ever been. You need a man with vision, leadership skills and a thick skin to get the job done and he got the job done in an impressive way. Cheers! Were all better for the legacy he leaves behind. Kemoko Turay Colts Jersey .Before a raucous sellout crowd, the Hawks won for the 29th time in 31 games to extend their Eastern-best record to 36-8.As usual, pretty much everyone chipped in.Four starters were in double figures and backup point guard Dennis Schroder led a spurt at the start of the fourth quarter that helped the Hawks pull away. The Cottagers last victory came in a 2-1 home win over West Ham when Rene Meulensteen was still in charge. Since then, a miserable run of seven defeats and two draws has seen the club part with the Dutch coach and replace him with German Felix Magath. Tyquan Lewis Colts Jersey . According to a report from ESPN, the veteran safety has signed another one-year deal with the team Raiders, the team that drafted him, and who he returned to last year after a long stint with the Green Bay Packers. Josh Ferguson Jersey .Y. - Alex Rodriguez paid $305,000 for evidence that could be used in the case involving the Biogenesis of America drug clinic, the Daily News reported Saturday.BERLIN -- Mario Mandzukics first-half strike was enough for Bayern Munich to grind out a 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Mandzukic scored in the 13th minute with a fine volley from Thomas Muellers cross. "We didnt want to play nicely and celebrate football, but rather to get the second Bundesliga win of the season. We succeeded there," Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said. The home side was left to rue a disallowed goal from Alexander Meier before the break, with TV replays showing offside was the wrong call, though the Frankfurt midfielder may have touched the ball with his hand as he headed in Johannes Flums goalward effort. "I thought our time would come, if we didnt concede the second goal. Then we got a goal, at a very good time. It was a regular goal, but the linesman was against it," Frankfurt coach Armin Veh said. Also Saturday, Hoffenheim routed Hamburger SV 5-1 in Hamburg, Wolfsburg beat Schalke 4-0, Leverkusen won 1-0 at Stuttgart, Werder Bremen beat Augsburg 1-0, and Mainz won 2-1 at Freiburg. Borussia Moenchengladbach impressed with a 3-0 win over Hannover in the late game. Max Kruse opened the scoring in the 20th, and Christoph Kramer slid in ahead of two defenders for the second in the 53rd, when Kruses attempted chip rebounded off the post. Filip Daems sealed the result with a penalty in the 66th -- his 12th successful spot-kick from 12 in the Bundesliga. "Im happy, but its over now," Moenchengladbach coach Lucien Favre said. While Bayern equaled its club record of 27 consecutive Bundesliga games without defeat set in 1989, Pep Guardiolas side was fortunate to emerge with the win. Bastian Schweinsteiger did have the chance to seal it in the 89th, but was denied by Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. Then Srdjan Lakic rounded Manuel Neuer at the other end, only for Dante to clear off the line. Meier appeared to be hindered in the area by Jerome Boateng and Dante in injury time, but referee Peter Gagelmann waved away Frankfurts penalty claims. "Boateng pushes him in the back as hes running. Its clearly a penalty," Veh said. Bayern was more in control in the first half, when Mandzukic ensured the club scored for the 39th Bundesliga game in succession. Guardiolas influence could be seen in his sides set-up, with Schweinsteiger dropping very deep to initiatee play and Bayern engaging in a short passing game.dddddddddddd. Arjen Robben came on for Mueller in the 74th and had a goal ruled out for offside shortly afterward in what was another close call. Mario Goetze remained on the bench and will need to wait for his Bundesliga debut for Bayern. "Its never easy after the international break. We only had three days. Still, we created a lot of chances. Im happy and 100 per cent satisfied," Guardiola said. Hamburg conceded an early goal for the second time in as many games when Roberto Firmino put Hoffenheim ahead in the fifth. Rafael van der Vaart equalized from the penalty spot in the 44th but the respite was brief. Kevin Volland put the visitors back in front in the 50th, Anthony Modeste capitalized on an error from Lasse Sobiech to make it 3-1 in the 67th, and he scored again in the 75th thanks to more lax defending, before Roberto Firmino completed the rout with his second in the 78th. "The defensive play was very, very, very bad," Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink said. "That was a textbook example of how not to do it. We dont need to sugarcoat anything, but we still have to look forward and win back the fans trust." Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar struck the post in the first half, but didnt emerge for the second due to a right knee injury. Robin Knoche scored after a Wolfsburg corner in the 55th, Vieirinha made it 2-0 with a fine strike in the 61st, Naldo scored in the 67th, and Stefan Kutschke completed the scoring in injury time. "After the first goal we just fell apart, so Im not at all happy with the game," Schalke coach Jens Keller said. "Im going to work with the team on Sunday. I cant just ignore it." Stuttgart defender Daniel Schwaabs own goal in the 42nd was enough for former side Leverkusen. "Altogether we werent rewarded for our efforts. Then to lose through such a stupid own goal is of course twice as bitter," Schwaab said. Mehmet Ekici scored in the 22nd as Bremen started the season with two wins for the first time since 2006. "Its still quite clear to us that we have a difficult year ahead of us," said Bremen coach Robin Dutt. Niki Zimling and Nicolai Mueller scored in the 64th and 68th for Mainz at Freiburg, three minutes before Sebastian Freis scored what proved to be just a consolation. IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys have signed receiver LaRon Byrd. Byrds deal was announced Thursday, a week before the start of the NFL draft. Byrd originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent two years ago. After playing in four games with one catch as a rookie in 2012, the 6-foot-4 Byrd spent all of last season on reserve/injured list after a concussion during the preseason. He was released by the Cardinals on April 4. Byrd played collegiately at Miami, where he had 106 catches for 1,254 yards with seven touchdowns in 51 games. The exception is rookie receiver Odell Beckham Jr.Week in, week out, Beckham has become an offensive catalyst with one-handed catches, key plays and touchdowns.Beckham added to his impressive collection of highlights by catching three touchdown passes and coming within one reception of tying the teams single-game record in a 24-13 win over Washington that might have gone another way had the Redskins not lost a touchdown on the final play of the first half on a video review. This guy fuels the entire team, fuels the entire stadium, Giants defensive captain Antrel Rolle said of Beckham. Hes an exciting guy to watch. Hes a hell of a player. He goes out there and makes plays and plays beyond the Xs and Os.Beckham had 12 receptions for 143 yards, with touchdowns covering 10, 35 and 6 yards. He has a team-high nine touchdowns and his 972 yards receiving are a team record for a rookie, beating Jeremy Shockeys 894.Hes always upbeat walking around and has that energy, said Eli Manning, who completed 23 of 34 passes for 250 yards, targeting Beckham 15 times. Its exciting when the ball gets in his hands. After missing the first four games with a hamstring injury, Beckham has 71 catches, including 61 in his last seven games. The way weve played the last couple of games gives us a better feel for how were going to play. For me, its making the most of my opportunities, Beckham said. The win was the second straight for the Giants (5-9) after seven consecutive losses. The Redskins (3-11) simply found a new way to lose. They blew a touchdown and command of the game on a fumble by Robert Griffin III as time expired at the end of the first half.Griffin scrambled for an apparent 8-yard touchdown and a 17-7 lead, diving over the pylon, and then running on to the field and spiking the ball with emphasis. But a video review by referee Jeff Triplette showed that Griffin lost control of the ball diving over the pylon and the play was ruled a touchback. The lead stayed at 10-7.We shouldnt have let that play alter the game for us. Ultimately, it did, Griffin said. Its a touchdown. Thats how we all felt, everybody in the locker room, coaches included. My understanding is, if the ball passes the plane and you have control of the ball, its a touchdown in every game that Ive ever seen.dddddddddddd They decided that it wasnt today. The call incensed veteran receiver Santana Moss so much that he stormed after the officials and was ejected.Triplette said Moss was ejected for inappropriate language directed first at him and then at field judge Alex Kemp. Some things learned from the Giants second win over Washington this season:SACK ATTACK: Since losing to Dallas on Nov. 23 in large part because they could not get a pass rush late against Tony Romo, the Giants have recorded 22 sacks in the last three games. They had seven against Washington, with Jason Pierre-Paul and Johnathan Hankins getting 2 1/2 apiece. Pierre-Paul has 6 1/2 in the last three games.GRIFFIN IN THE MIX: Take away the fumble and Griffin played very well after Colt McCoy aggravated a neck injury on the Redskins opening series. He was 17 of 28 for 236 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. He also had five rushes for 46 yards. I know its not been a fun year, said Griffin, who recently lost his starting job. Weve had a lot of turmoil, a lot of things going on, but at the end of the day, you have to get out there, suit up, and when your number is called, be ready to play.GIANTS COVERAGE: While the Giants defence only gave up 13 points, there are times it still looks lost. Washington had 10 plays of 17 yards or more, including at least five to receivers who were left wide open. Running back Chris Thompson was uncovered on a 9-yard TD pass from Griffin.NO RUN: The Redskins run defence was outstanding, forcing Manning to go to Beckham again and again. New York was limited to 49 yards on 22 carries — a 2.2 yard average. Making things worse for the Giants, Rashad Jennings reinjured an ankle and had one carry.BECKHAM NOT PERFECT: Beckham made a foolish play trying to field a Tress Way punt in the closing seconds. After chasing his teammates away from the ball, he tried to pick it up, didnt handle it and Washington recovered at the Giants 29. I was being lackadaisical, he said. Too relaxed. I went and apologized to the special teams coach because that is just not acceptable.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap Chargers Jerseys Cheap Rams Jersey Cheap Dolphins Jerseys Cheap Vikings Jerseys Cheap Patriots Jersey Cheap Saints Jerseys Cheap New York Giants Jerseys Cheap Jets Jerseys Cheap Raiders Jerseys Cheap Eagles Jerseys Cheap Steelers Jerseys Cheap 49ers Jerseys Cheap Seahawks Jerseys Cheap Buccaneers Jerseys Cheap Titans Jerseys Cheap Redskins Jerseys ' ' '

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have taken over top spot in the TSN.ca MLB Power Rankings, ahead of the Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays. Since starting the year 16-17, the Angels are 12-5 and are getting healthier. They have three starters -- Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson and Garrett Richards -- with an ERA of 3.00 or better, which complements their productive offence. The Jays are one of the big risers this week, going from nine to three, as they are currently riding a seven-game winning streak. After a week in which they had one no-hitter and then flirted with a perfect game the next night, the Los Angeles Dodgers are up from 13 to eight. The Pittsburgh Pirates are starting to hit, and have won five of six, which is enough to jump from 27 to 17, while the Chicago White Sox moved from 23 to 16, thanks mostly to getting ace Chris Sale back from the disabled list. After reigning as the number one team for the past three weeks, the Detroit Tigers collapsed, losing seven of eight, to fall from top spot all the way down the nine. A slump knocks the Colorado Rockies from 10 to 15, and pitching woes bump the Kansas City Royals from 12 to 20. Injuries continue to plague the San Diego Padres, and they fall from 18 to 23 and the defending champion Boston Red Sox, who had lost nine straight before winning Monday, drop from 20 to 28. He threw in the occasional fastball to keep batters off balance. The Cubs struggled at the plate with the Milwaukee Brewers veteran locked in with his slider and sinker. Lohse allowed just three hits in a complete game shutout, and Ryan Braun had a two-run homer in the first inning of a 9-0 rout against the Cubs on Sunday. Milwaukee pounded Cubs ace Jeff Samardzija (1-5) for eight earned runs in three innings, raising his ERA from 1.68 to 2.54. "I figured it would be low-scoring on both ends. I knew Kyle had a good chance of keeping them down and I didnt expect to get a lot of runs off Samardzija. Great offence," manager Ron Roenicke said. Braun homered to left on the first pitch he saw from Samardzija, and the Brewers rolled from there with Samardzija having trouble locating his fastball. Lyle Overbay broke the game open with a three-run double in the third. Even Lohse had success at the plate with an RBI single to drive in Overbay to make it 8-0 for the pitchers second run-scoring hit of the game. Lohse (7-1) needed just 93 pitches in tossing his eighth career shutout. "Its fun to go out there and help out, add on, but thats not my main job," Lohse said about his 2 for 3 day with the bat. "My main job was to go out there and get us deep in the game, and I take a little more pride in that." With Lohses pitch count at just 83 pitches after eight innings, Roenicke wasnt even thinking about pulling the veteran. "I didnt even go talk to him. When you see that kind of game and the pitch count that low, its impressive," the skipper said. One of the few highlights for Chicago was Brian Schlitters single to lead off the seventh for the relievers first major league hit. Otherwise it was a frustrating day for the last-place Cubs. They lost their 14th straight series on the road, a streak dating to last September. Samardzijas "command wasnt the bbest today, but it was just one of those days for him," manager Rick Renteria said.dddddddddddd "I think very rare." The eight earned runs allowed were as many as Samardzija had given up in his previous six starts. Scooter Gennett had two doubles off Samardzija before hitting his third homer of the year in the fifth off reliever Justin Grimm. Gennetts first double exemplified the Cubs afternoon. A high fly to shallow left-centre in the second fell in between backpedaling shortstop Starlin Castro and charging outfielder Junior Lake, who looked away in frustration as Gennett hustled into second. "You have to take advantage of mistakes against a good pitcher like that. When a team makes mistakes like that, you have to jump on it," Braun said. Two innings later, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo was ejected by home plate umpire Jerry Meals for arguing a called third strike and Chicago trailing by eight. The left-handed slugger turned to face Meals and pointed angrily with his left arm at the ground before being sent back to the dugout by Renteria. "I said my peace and I definitely understand why I got ejected," Rizzo said. "Im going to move on." Braun hit his ninth homer of the year and second in three days. The Brewers hope it might be a sign that hes over the right oblique injury that sidelined him for two weeks in May. ATHENS, Ga. -- Michael Phelps surged to the wall and quickly searched for the scoreboard. He liked what he saw. Phelps turned in perhaps the most impressive performance so far in his comeback, posting the third-fastest time in the world this year while easily beating rival Ryan Lochte in the 100-meter butterfly at the Bulldog Grand Slam on Friday night. Despite some problems with his turn, Phelps had the packed house roaring when he touched in 51.67 seconds, considerably faster than the 52.11 he posted at the Santa Clara Grand Prix three weeks ago. Lochte was a distant second in 53.08. "I wanted to get under 52," Phelps said, breaking into a big smile. "I was sick and tired of seeing 52.1." He had no trouble finishing ahead of Lochte, though it really wasnt a fair fight. Phelps longtime foe also competed in the 200 freestyle, winning the "B" final less than an hour before he returned to the water to face a rested Phelps. More important for Lochte -- his left knee seemed to hold up well. This is his first meet for the laid-back Floridian since he reinjured the surgically repaired knee at the Mesa Grand Prix in April. It was initially hurt late last year when he tried to catch an exuberant fan and fell into a curb, requiring surgery. "I hope I lose," said Lochte, who plans to swim a grueling six events in Athens. "It will just make me more hungry." Phelps is set to swim three events at the weekend meet on the University of Georgia campus, a hastily arranged event that gave some of the top swimmers on the East Coast a chance to swim one more time competitively before the next months national championships in Irvine, California. The results from nationals, as well as the Pan Pacific Championships being held in Australia later in August, will determine the U.S. team for the 2015 world championships. Phelps seems to be right on course, at least in his signature fly, finishing just 0.46 off the time that won the gold at the 2012 London Olympics. The only faster times this year were Thomas Dals 51.44 in the Belgian Open and Viacheslav Prudnikovs 51.60 at the Russian national championships. "I am very pleased with being able to go 51," Phelps said. "But in the grand scheme of things, I think its just a small steppingstone to go where we hope to be." He is still struggling with the consistency of his stroke. When things are going well, Phelps needs 16 strokes to cover the first 50 metres, 18 for the return lap. When hes just a little off, he winds up gliding into the wall too much, either when hes making his flip turn or coming to the finish. "I was kind of bummed that I still cant hit a wall correctly," Phelps said. Added his coach, Bob Bowman, "He looked crazy coming off the wall." All in all, though, no complaints. Phelps, who retired after the last Olympics and stayed away from the pool for more than a year, didnt come back to tarnish his legacy, which includes 18 golds and 22 medals overall -- far more than any other Olympic athlete. "I always set high expectations for myself, no matter what Im doing," he said. "Bob and I have a plan of what I want to do. He knows what its going to take to get there." In other events, French Olympic star Yannick Agnel took the mens 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 47.27 seconds, followed by U.S. Olympians Conor Dywer (1:47.44) and Connor Jaeger (1:47.94). Lochte, swimming in that consolation final, actually posted the fourth-fastest time of the evening at 1:48.69, some 4 seconds faster than he went in the morning preliminaries while wearing a non-racing suit. Allison Schmitt, coming back strong after a disappointing post-Olympic year, won the womens 200 freestyle in 1:58.16. Winner of five medals in London, she struggled a bit with fame and didnt even qualify for the 2013 worlds. Shes back on track with the Rio Games just two years away. "I have more goals that I want to accomplish, which is why Im back," Schmitt said. "Im looking forward to this summer." In the 400 individual medley, Olympic gold medallist Tyler Clary blew away the field in the mens race. His time of 4:21.66 was nearly 4 1/2 seconds ahead of runner-up Kevin Litherland. Melanie Margalis finished first on the womens side. Micah Lawrence touched first in the womens 100 breaststroke, while the mens breaststroke was captured by Nicolas Fink. Seventeen-year-old Kathleen Baker took the womens 100 fly in 59.69, the only swimmer to break the minute barrier. Of course, Phelps drew most of the attention. His main foe was impressed by what he saw. "He swam a fantastic race," Lochte said. "That was really fast." MIAMI -- The Miami Heat signed free-agent forwards Josh McRoberts and Danny Granger on Monday, and brought back incumbent point guard Mario Chalmers. All three deals were agreed to previously, but not signed until the Heat had more pieces of their salary-cap puzzle put into place. McRoberts signed a four-year deal that will pay him $5.3 million next season. Chalmers got a two-year deal that will have him earning about $4 million next season. Granger also has a two-year deal and will make just over $1 million next season. McRoberts averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists for Charlotte last season. Heat President Pat Riley said McRoberts was one of Miamis "main targets" in free agency. "We are delighted that this multi-faceted player will help us immensely," Riley said. Chalmers has been with Miami for all six of his pro seasons, helping win two championships. He averaged 9.8 points and 4.9 assists last season and shot 38 per cent from 3-point range. "Its great to have Mario back," Riley said. "Were happy that he wants to continue his career in Miami, hes one of our core players, and I believe he will have a great season." Granger has appeared in 556 career NBA regular-season games and averaged 17.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists. Hes been bothered by injuries for most of the past two seasons. "One of our main priorities this off-season was obtaining a proven veteran like Danny with All-Star experience," Riley said. "We expect him to be a multi-position player and have a very successful season in our system." Kenta Maeda Jersey . -- Ryan Millers debut for the St.PORTLAND, Ore. - Nicolas Batum had a simple question for his Portland teammates: "Why not us?" No other team has come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series. But the Trail Blazers took the first step Monday night by beating the San Antonio Spurs 103-92 to stave off elimination and narrow the Western Conference semifinal series to 3-1. "Why not us? No, its never been done before," Batum said. "We know its going to be tough. It wont be easy, especially against this team. The French forward had 14 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists and pestered fellow countryman Tony Parker all night. Damian Lillard had 25 points to lead the Blazers, who won their first second-round playoff game since a victory over Utah in the 2000 conference semifinals. "We had nothing to lose tonight. We had no pressure. It was do or die," Batum said. "So we just go out there and play." Portland held Parker to 14 points after he had scored 29 points or more in three of his last four playoff games. Coach Gregg Popovich sat Parker and Tim Duncan after Portland built a 20-point lead in the final quarter. The Spurs are looking to advance to the conference finals for the third straight season. Game 5 is Wednesday night in San Antonio. "The energy was weird tonight," Parker said. "You have to give a lot of credit to Portland. They played great. They came out of the gates and I thought Batum was great tonight. He gave them a big boost." The Blazers were the last team to take a series to seven games after dropping the first three. Portland rebounded in the first round against Dallas in 2003, but ultimately lost the deciding game in the first-round series. The Blazers have been hurt by the loss of backup point guard Mo Williams to a groin injury for the past two games. Williams provided both energy and points off the bench all season in relief of Lillard. Portland got just six points off the bench in Game 3, but Will Barton provided a spark with 17 points on Monday night. Barton became the first Blazer with 17 points and six rebounds off the bench in a playoff game since Briian Grant in 2000 against Utah.dddddddddddd "Any time you get a boost off the bench its always good for a momentum swing," San Antonios Danny Green said. "When he comes in and gets the crowd into it, they pretty much get it going, and it helped them a lot. " Coach Terry Stotts promised that the Blazers would play with pride in Game 4 and they did from the start. Lillards pull up jumper gave Portland a 14-8 lead. He extended it to 20-14 with a layup. But the Spurs answered with a 9-2 run and took a 24-23 lead on Patty Mills 3-pointer. Portland, which had only led twice in the previous three games, quickly reclaimed the lead and held on until Tiago Splitter tied it at 46 with a free throw. The Blazers had a 50-48 lead at the half. "I though with the way Nico (Batum) played, the game came a lot easier," Lillard said. "He was attacking, making plays. He was pushing the ball." Lillard opened the second half with a 3-pointer. Batum hit a 3 and added a free throw to push the lead to 69-61. Batum added another 3 before Thomas Robinsons dunk and Lillards 3 made it 77-63 to cap a 12-2 Portland run. Lillards layup put Portland ahead 90-72 in the fourth quarter. He added another to make it 94-74. "If they lost today it was a sweep, but theyve got pride and they played good," Manu Ginobili said. "They played the game more desperately than we did. We didnt bring the same emotions the first three games. The bottom line is they played better than us in every aspect of the game. Parker scored 29 points in San Antonios 118-103 Game 3 victory on Saturday night. The Spurs had routed the Blazers 116-92 in the series opener after their grueling seven-game series against the Mavericks, then built a 20-point lead and won Game 2, 114-97.
