Daniela Iraschko-Stolz of Austria dominated Sundays womens ski jumping training sessions at the Sochi Olympics, proving her first-day performance was no fluke. Perhaps as important, shes sending a message to 17-year-old gold medal favourite Sara Takanashi of Japan. Iraschko-Stolz relegated Takanashi, who has 10 World Cup victories this season, to second place in two of three training jumps Saturday. She finished first in two training runs Sunday before deciding not to bother with the third. Takanashi was first in that third session, after coming in second and third in the others. The first Olympic gold medal in womens ski jumping will be awarded Tuesday, ending a decade-long fight to get the sport into the Olympic Games. Hampus Lindholm Ducks Jersey . It led to his downfall on Tuesday. The Major League Soccer club fired Rennie after a second straight up-and-down season that saw the Whitecaps start strong before limping across the finish line. Rickard Rakell Ducks Jersey .S. Basketball Writers Association. McDermott, who finished his career at Creighton as college basketballs fifth-leading scorer, accepted the honour from Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson at AT&T Stadium, site of the Final Four. Ryan Kesler Ducks Jersey Authentic . Fielder has been out with a herniated disk in his neck, and surgery was recommended after a follow-up exam and another scan Thursday with Dr.MONTREAL -- The Montreal Impact smell blood. The clubs final group stage match in the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday night will come against a New York Red Bulls team that is already eliminated from contention for the quarter-finals. And the Red Bulls will likely sit out most of their best players to save them for a Major League Soccer match on Sunday that has playoff implications. It is a glittering chance for the Impact to finish the group stage with a perfect 4-0-0 record and perhaps earn one of the top four seeds for the quarter-finals. But coach Frank Klopas cautioned this week that the Impact cant expect to walk into Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., and take the three points without any effort, even if New York opts to use mostly reserve players. The game they played here against us (a 1-0 Montreal win on Sept. 17), they played some guys that are not in their starting group, but theres a lot for all those guys to play for, said Klopas. Its the end of the season, and maybe its an opportunity to impress their coach. They have a lot to prove. Theyre playing for contracts. But regardless of who we play, we have to focus on ourselves. And its another opportunity to get a win on the road. Its not MLS, but it counts. On the downside, the Impact will be without arguably their two best players, as midfielder Ignacio Piatti is nursing tendinitis in a knee and striker Marco Di Vaio has a one-game suspension. Otherwise, they expect to field a strong lineup. The Impact have had a miserable MLS season, sitting last in the Eastern Conference thanks largely to a 0-12-5 record away from home. But they won the Canadian Championship, which put them into the Champions League group stage, where they already have an away win over CD FAS of El Salvador. Montreal clinched a quarter-final spot when the Red Bulls (1-1-1) were held to a draw by CD FAS. And the club has its 3-2 away win in San Salvador on Aug. 20 to build on. Now we can do it again, said midfielder Maxim Tissot. Itll be big for us to get momentum for next year. Weve been playing better. Maybe its because we dont have the stress of trying to make thhe playoffs, but weve been moving the ball better.dddddddddddd The fifth-place Red Bulls have made the MLS playoffs, but a win Sunday in Kansas City can move them into third place and avoid the fourth versus fifth knockout game. Or it could give them home field advantage if they come fourth and have to play the knock-out match against either Kansas City or Columbus. To finish with four wins would give Montreal a chance to play the quarter-final return leg at home. Theoretically, it would also give them a weaker opponent, although all eight teams in the quarter-finals should be tough. Tissot said Montreal hopes to draw a fellow MLS side. The quarter-finals will be played between Feb. 24 and March 5, when MLS teams are still in training camp but clubs from Mexico and Central America will be in mid-season. Id prefer to play a team from MLS, Tissot said. That may not be best for the league, but it may be best for us because well know the team were facing. No matter who we play, we have to be ready. But we want as much on our side as possible. MLS clubs D.C. United and the Portland Timbers are also 3-0-0 headed into their final group stage match. Montreal reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2009. That year, they beat Santos Laguna 2-0 at home before more than 55,000 at Olympic Stadium only to collapse in the second half of a 5-2 defeat in the return leg in Mexico. Now theyve earned another shot. Its big for the club, said Tissot, a Gatineau, Que. native who was playing youth soccer at that time. Well want to get our revenge. We lost in a pretty difficult way. I think (president) Joey Saputo and (general manager) Nick De Santis still remember. (Assistant GM) Matt Jordan played in that game, so he remembers. Well want to win for them especially. The Impact wont be in next years Champions League. That spot has already gone to the Vancouver Whitecaps. A rule change for this year only gives the 2015 CONCACAF spot to the Canadian team that finished highest in MLS standings. Normally, it goes to the club that wins the Canadian Championship trophy, the Voyageurs Cup. The two-time former Formula One champion downplayed his third-place finish three weeks ago in China and said progress is going slow for Ferrari as it tries to make up ground on Mercedes. "If I say we will fight for the podium I will probably be lying to you, and I dont want to disappoint our fans," Alonso said on Thursday, a day before practice begins at the seasons first event in Europe. Alonso sits third in the standings with 41 points after Mercedes pair Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton swept the first four races of the season. Rosberg leads the standings with 79 points with Hamilton four points behind. Ferraris last win came at Montmelo one year ago when Alonso got his second career victory on the circuit. Since then, it is on its longest streak without a victory in almost two decades after Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel dominated the end of last season before Mercedes took the lead this year. Alonso has yet to crack the top three spots in qualifying so far in 2014, while Kimi Raikkonen has fared even worse in his return to the team that he won the world title with in 2007. The Finn hasnt finished in the top six spots in any race, and has also lacked speed in qualifying. "We finished ninth and 10th in Bahrain and did podium in China because we had some things (come) together on that Sunday, but it is not that we are in a position to say we will fight for the podium here," Alonso said.dddddddddddd. "Barcelona is a good point to check how competitive we are." Alonso said Ferraris upgrade package is "nothing out of the world" and that the biggest advantage he will have is his knowledge of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with its single straightaway, which he hoped would reduce Mercedes ability to leverage its better overall speed. The race will be Ferraris second under new team principal Marco Mattiacci after he replaced Stefano Domenicali. Mattiacci, a former president of Ferrari North America but with no experience in F1, arrived to Shanghai in time to watch Alonso steer to a third-place finish. Alonso said Mattiacci was meeting with everyone on the team-- from drivers to engineers and crew members-- but needed time to learn the sport before he put his stamp on the Italian team. "At the moment everything is more or less the same," Alonso said. "Everything is calm, no big changes. In China, Marco arrived with little experience in motor racing and lots of experience on the management side, but he is listening and learning as much as he can. I dont think Marco wants to become an engineer, but he will need some time to settle down and make some decisions. "It is a good thing for Ferrari to move forward and past some historical mistakes." Manchester United secured a record-breaking $1.3 billion sponsorship deal with Adidas on Monday, signalling the clubs enduring global appeal despite its worst Premier League campaign and strengthening its financial muscle for player transfers. The 10-year kit deal, worth at least 75 million pounds ($128 million) a year from July 2015 for an overall 750 million pounds ($1.3 billion), was negotiated after Nike decided that trebling the cost of its existing 13-year contract for having its name on United shirts was not good value for the company. United finished seventh in the league last season at the start of the post-Alex Ferguson era. But the eagerness of Adidas to make United kits and sell replicas is an indicator of the expected durability of the Red Devils brand -- and a worldwide following which the club claims to be around 660 million supporters. The German sportswear firm said it expects to generate 1.5 billion pounds ($2.5 billion) in sales during the decade-long deal with United. Adidas currently pays around $50 million a year to Chelsea and Real Madrid, and United could generate far more over the decade from footballs biggest kit sponsorship, describing the headline figure of 750 million pounds as a "minimum guarantee." In 2005 the Glazer family paid 790 million pounds -- just 40 million pounds more than the Adidas windfall -- for the entire club. Ten per cent of the Old Trafford-based team is now listed on the New York Stock Exchange and shares rose two per cent to $18.14 in morning trading on Monday. Adidas, which also makes the kit of newly-crowned World Cup winner Germany, saw shares rise by 2.85 per cent in Frankfurt to close at 73.57 euros ($100) on Monday. "Our new partnership with Manchester United clearly underlines our leadership in football and will help us to further strengthen our position in key markets around the world," Adidas chief executive Herbert Hainer said in a statement. "At the same time, this collaboration marks a milestone for us when it comes to merchandising potential." Nike has one more season as kit maker, recently unveiling jerseys featuring a gold Chevrolet logo for the start of the American automakers $559 million, seven-year jersey sponsorship deal with the team. Adidas last held the United contract between 1980 and 1992 just before the club ended its 26-year wait for an English title in 1993, ushering in a period of dominance under Ferguson. But United is now in a period of rebuilding again after going from winning a 20th English title before Ferguson retired in 2013 to a sudden slump with David Moyes in charge. Moyes was fired before the end of the season, and Louis van Gaal now has the task of returning United to the Champions League in 2015, fresh from leading the Netherlands at the World Cup. The Dutch secured a third-place finish by beating host Brazil 3-0 on Saturday. Despite the grueling campaign in South America, Van Gaal is taking just two days off before formally taking charge at United this week and beginning the tour of the United States on Friday. "I dont need a holiday," the 62-year-old former Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Ajax coach said on Uniteds website. "Its great to have such an exciting challenge. To work daily with young people is something that I dont need time off to rest for." Van Gaals first match in charge of United will be on July 23 in a friendly against the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Rose Bowl. While the new manager has been in Brazil, United has signed midfielder Ander Herrera and defender Luke Shaw. Green Bay Packers Jerseys . He insists hes not counting. Giggs ended his Manchester United career with 168 goals in 963 appearances. To be honest, I think all of this was somewhat expected considering the long career that I have had, Ceni said. I worked hard for all of it, and that has to be said. All of the achievements came as a consequence of my work.In his 22-year career as a professional with Sao Paulo, Ceni won three Copa Libertadores, three club world titles and three straight Brazilian championships from 2006-08. His performance was crucial for Sao Paulos 1-0 win over Liverpool in FIFAs Club World Cup in 2005.ddddddddddddIn the end I have to thank Sao Paulo for giving me this opportunity, he said. Im sure that I wouldnt be able to reach this number of victories if I wasnt playing for such a successful club like Sao Paulo.Despite being a great goalkeeper, Ceni is known mostly for his ability to score. The majority of his goals came from penalties, with 56 of them from free kicks.Ceni has already scored eight goals in this years Brazilian league and is one of Sao Paulos top scorers this season. With Mondays 3-0 win against Goias at the Morumbi Stadium, Sao Paulo moved within five points of leader Cruzeiro with seven rounds left in the competition. Sao Paulo is also fighting for the title in the Copa Sudamericana, giving the goalkeeper another chance to retire with a trophy.Ceni played only 17 times for Brazils national team, but was a member of squads that won the World Cup in 2002 and 2006. His only World Cup appearance was in Brazils 4-1 group-stage win over Japan, when the team was already guaranteed a place in the second round.___Follow Tales Azzoni at http://twitter.com/tazzoni Wholesale Jerseys China Wholesale Black NFL Jerseys Wholesale Black NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Womens Jerseys China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China Discount Jerseys ' ' '

The Dallas Cowboys were led by three key players in 2014; Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant. Murray led the NFL with 1845 rushing yards this season, putting him in the NFLs most valuable player conversation. Romo threw 34 touchdowns to nine interceptions with an NFL-best 113.2 quarterback rating and is also in the MVP conversation. And Bryant led the NFL in touchdowns with 16 and led the Cowboys in receiving by more than 600 yards. The three will look to be at their best as the Cowboys travel to Lambeau Field in search of their first divisional round win since their 1995 Super Bowl season. Playing the Green Bay Packers at home is as intimidating a matchup as any for NFL teams this year. The Packers were a perfect 8-0 in Titletown this season and were never held to less than 26 points – scoring 38 points or more on five occasions. However, the Cowboys have fared better on the road this season than any other team. The Cowboys went a perfect 8-0 on the road in 2014 and were also never held to less than 26 points. In fact, Romo was significantly stronger games outside of Dallas than at AT&T Stadium. The 34-year-old quarterback threw 20 touchdowns to just two interceptions on the road this season. At home, he threw 14 touchdowns to seven interceptions. Romo had a two touchdown day as the Cowboys emerged from Seattle – considered by many to be the NFLs toughest road venue - with a win over the defending champion Seahawks in Week 6. If the Cowboys can keep the game close against the Packers. it wont be Romo who has the biggest chance to shine, however, but Murray. The Packers rank 10th against the pass this season and have returned three interceptions for touchdowns at home. Green Bays rush defence, though, ranked 23rd this season and surrendered just shy of 120 yards per game. Thats good news for Dallas as the Cowboys owned a 10-2 record in games where Murray crossed the 100-yard mark this season. The Packers allowed less than 100 yards rushing four times this season and, not surprisingly, they won all four games. Green Bay has also been an improved unit since their Week 9 bye week; after allowing 145 or more rushing in four of eight games to open the season, the Packers have allowed no more than 113 since. Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers made it no secret Murray would be a focal point for Green Bays defence this week. The Packers havent faced a rusher who eclipsed 1,000 yards this season since holding LeSean McCoy to 88 yards in week 11. This will be the best test weve had, Capers told ESPN on Monday. Though the Packers pass defence has also been relatively strong throughout the season – three 300-yard passing games allowed – the Cowboys offence will watch one game tape particularly closely. On Monday night football in Week 14, the Packers jumped out to a 31-7 lead at halftime before the Atlanta Falcons, or more specifically Julio Jones, came racing back. Jones, matched up initially on Sam Shields, burned the Packers for 259 yards and a touchdown on 11 catches. Shields was eventually benched for Davon House, who had more success until he, like Jones, left the game with an injury. The Packers then hung on to edge the Falcons 43-37. House missed the Packers final three games with a shoulder injury and is questionable for Sundays game. Its unknown whether the Packers will give Shields the first chance at Bryant in the divisional round, but the Packers will need to contain Bryant in order to significantly slow the Cowboys passing attack. Terrance Williams led the Cowboys 92 yards against the Detroit Lions in the divisional round, but its Bryant who keyed the Cowboys aerial assault throughout the season. In the middle of the field, both tight end Jason Witten and slot receiver Cole Beasley also outgained Bryant against the Lions. An impending free agent, Bryant will look for a better playoff performance to boost his value and – with the road to Super Bowl likely running through Seattle - there may be no better time to do than this week. The Cowboys unsung heroes, the offensive line, paved the way for Murrays outstanding season and Romos - mostly – healthy season coming off back surgery. Led by first-round picks in left tackle Tyron Smith, centre Travis Frederick and right guard Zach Martin, the offensive line allowed 29 sacks on Romo in 16 games this season. The unit then allowed six sacks against the Lions tough front on Sunday. The offensive line could once again have their hands full on Sunday against a defensive pass rush that includes pro bowler Clay Matthews and veteran Julius Peppers. The Packers ranked ninth in the regular season in sacks with 41. The Cowboys will receive a major boost if starting right tackle Doug Free can suit up this week after missing the previous three games with an ankle injury. Free was inactive after being listed as doubtful against the Lions. With the Packers likely to score 30 or more points – a feat they failed to accomplish just once at home this season – the Cowboys top trio will need to be at their best in Green Bay. Due to a seemingly favourable matchup and below freezing temperatures expected, the brunt of that pressure may fall Murray, just as it has so many times this season. Courtland Sutton Jersey . He was 3 for 24 in the previous nine games, but hit a grand slam and knocked in five runs to help power the Miami Marlins past the Philadelphia Phillies 14-5. "He needed that," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "He needed to lock it in and have a couple good at-bats. Hes definitely had some struggles this month. ... Hopefully this is a spark for him and a spark for us." Christian Yelich, Garrett Jones, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each drove in two runs for the Marlins, who have the best home record (18-6) in baseball. Nathan Eovaldi (3-2) allowed three runs--one earned--and 10 hits in six innings to pick up the win. "I felt command," Eovaldi said. "I had better command of my fastball this outing and I was able to make the big pitches when I needed to." Ozunas first career grand slam and seventh home run of the season broke the game open in the seventh inning. Miami led 6-3 with two outs before Jeff Manship loaded the bases and Ozuna smacked a pitch over the left-field wall for a 10-3 lead. "When I saw the pitch, I said, I got it. Let me not make a mistake. Just make contact," Ozuna said. Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick (0-5) came into the game with a 10-game winning streak against the Marlins, but lost his 10th consecutive game overall. Kendrick allowed six runs in 5 2-3 innings. "I wasnt good at all, falling behind in counts, missing over the plate, my fastball command wasnt very good," Kendrick said. "Guys scored runs and I gave it right back to them and thats whats frustrating." Domonic Brown homered and drove in three runs for the Phillies, who had their three-game wwinning streak snapped.dddddddddddd Browns two-run home run pulled Philadelphia within 10-5, but Miami scored four runs in the eighth to post their highest run total of the season. Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton came up with a pivotal defensive play in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and the Marlins holding onto a 5-3 lead, Cody Asche hit a line drive to the right-centre field gap that looked as if it would clear the bases. Stanton raced to his right making a diving back-handed catch to end the inning. "The great catch in right-centre field was a game-changing play," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "That was potentially a 6-5 lead and a whole different type of a game." The Phillies scored two unearned runs in the first and the Marlins responded with two in the bottom half. After Stanton drove in a run on a ground out to give Miami a 3-2 lead, Tony Gwynn, Jr. singled to tie the game at 3 in the fourth for Philadelphia. Miami took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles by Ozuna and Yelich for a 5-3 advantage. NOTES: After the game the Marlins optioned RHP Anthony DeSclafani to Triple-A New Orleans. LHP Randy Wolf (0-0, 1.80) will take DeSclafanis spot in the rotation and start Sunday against Milwaukee. ... Andrus understood trying to take down Seattle ace Felix Hernandez required being aggressive just to get one run. "Especially when you face a guy like that, when hes on, its going to be hard," Andrus said. "For whoever is hitting its going to be hard to get good contact, a base hit." Locked in a scoreless tie, Andrus singled, stole two bases and scored on Adrian Beltres infield grounder in the ninth as the Rangers did just enough against Hernandez for a 1-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Andrus singled with one out, then proceeded to steal second and third base. The second stolen base came as Shin-Soo Choo walked on a 3-2 pitch from Hernandez and was the final batter for Seattles ace. Closer Fernando Rodney entered and got Beltre to hit a grounder into the hole at shortstop. Brad Miller fielded the ground ball and was able to get Choo at second, but Robinson Canos turn on the double play attempt was rushed and the throw was wide. Beltre was safe, Andrus scored and Texas got the run it needed. "The difference was the base hit to Andrus and he stole the two bases," Hernandez said. "That was the difference of the game." Texas handed Hernandez (8-2) just his second loss of the season and the Rangers have now handed him 21 of his career losses. "Its just a win. We see King Felix a lot so its just a win," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "I wouldnt put any more credence to it than what it was." Matching Hernandez was Texas starter Nick Tepesch and a trio of relievers. Tepesch threw 6 1-3 innings, Jason Frasor finished off the seventh, Shawn Tolleson (2-1) got through the eighth and Joakim Soria pitched the ninth for his 14th save. Texas posted its 13th shutout and fourth 1-0 victory this season. Seattle lost its fourth straight. Tepesch matched Hernandez all night. He faced the minimum through five innings and used just 47 pitches to set down the first 115 batters.dddddddddddd The only batter to reach for Seattle was Mike Zunino with a single leading off the third inning. Zunino lined a ground-rule double into the Mariners bullpen leading off the sixth, the first baserunner by either team to reach second base but was left stranded at third. Tepesch started struggling in the seventh. With two on and one out, Tepesch was lifted in favour of Frasor who struck out pinch-hitter Endy Chavez looking and Dustin Ackley swinging to end the inning. Tolleson worked a perfect eighth to get the victory. Soria then shut down the top of Seattles order in the bottom of the ninth. He struck out James Jones, got a groundout from Kyle Seager and Cano grounded back to the mound for the final out. "I dont really try and focus on who I am throwing against," Tepesch said. "Its more about the hitters Im facing. I cant control his throwing or how well theyre going to throw or maybe theyre going to have a bad day. Its just controlling what I can control." Hernandez was coming off a career-best 15 strikeout performance in his last outing against Tampa Bay. Hernandez dominated the Rays, but didnt get the victory because Seattles offence failed to score while he was on the mound. An identical scenario played out against Texas. Hernandez was just as dominant -- minus the strikeouts -- and the Mariners again failed to provide their ace any runs. Hernandez was at 98 pitches beginning the ninth. He finished with six strikeouts, four hits allowed and one run. It was an improvement over his last start against Texas when he gave up three runs in six innings. "Big deal. It was still a lousy game," Hernandez said. NOTES: Seattle OF/DH Corey Hart (hamstring) hit on the field before the game for the first time since being injured on May 18. ... With Washington teammate Nene drawing double-teams coming off his big game against the Lakers, Gortat scored 25 points on 11-of-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Wizards to a 100-92 win in overtime over Milwaukee on Wednesday night.(SportsNetwork.com) - The two best teams in the regular season and two teams that never felt they were getting enough respect. Theres a fascinating pair of FCS semifinals on tap next weekend following a wild weekend of quarterfinals in which all eight teams scored over 30 points. In one semifinal, Sam Houston State at North Dakota State will match the competitors from the 2011 and 12 national championship games, both won by NDSU. Many people consider the three-time defending champion Bison to be the best team in the playoffs despite having the No. 2 seed. Sam Houston, though, wasnt on a lot of peoples minds considering the Southland Conference co-champion were 1-3 to start the season. Top-seeded New Hampshire from CAA Football is in the semifinals for the second consecutive season and will host Illinois State as both teams seek a championship berth for the first time. Illinois State will be a tough out considering the Redbirds shared the Missouri Valley Conference title with NDSU, though they always seemed to live in their shadow in the regular season. After the semifinals, there will be a three-week break until the FCS championship game on Jan. 10. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- No. 5 seed Illinois State (12-1) 59, No. 4 seed Eastern Washington (11-3) 39 Cheney, WA - As usual Saturday, red ruled at Eastern Washingtons Roof Field, home of the red Inferno turf. This time, however, it was the Illinois State Redbirds, not host Eastern Washington, that kept changing the scoreboard as the fifth-seeded visitors stunned the fourth-seeded Eagles, 59-46, in the FCS quarterfinals. Illinois State (12-1) will next play on the other side of the country, going to top-seeded New Hampshire (12-1) for the semifinals next weekend. Sophomore Marshaun Coprich rushed for 258 yards and four touchdowns and the Redbirds kept Eastern Washington star Vernon Adams Jr. in check for the first three quarters while they prevented the Eagles (11-3) from reaching the national semifinals for a fourth time in five seasons. Two of Coprichs scores came in the third quarter when Illinois State extended a 24-17 halftime lead to 45-20. In the decisive third quarter, Coprich rushed for a 21-yard touchdown on the Redbirds first possession to give them a 31-17 lead. After Tyler McNannay kicked a 36-yard field goal to close Eastern Washingtons deficit to 11 points, Coprich capped Illinois States next drive with a 2-yard touchdown run at the 4:24 mark, making it 38-20. Alex Donnelly then intercepted Adams deep in Eagles territory, which set up a short 23-yard touchdown drive capped by quarterback Tre Robersons 5-yard TD run with nine seconds left to make it 45-20. Adams 2-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter pulled Eastern Washington within 45-27, but Robersons 31-yard touchdown pass to Lechein Neblett extended the Redbirds lead to 52-27. Adams sandwiched a pair of touchdown passes to Cooper Kupp (10 receptions, 185 yards) around a successful onside kick and Eastern Washington closed with two touchdowns, but Coprichs 74-yard touchdown burst made it 59-39 and gave the Redbirds a touchdown on their first five possessions of the second half. Coprich, the Missouri Valley Football Conference offensive player of the year, has rushed for over 100 yards in all 13 Illinois State games this season. Adams added a third touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to Shaq Hill, finishing 25-for-44 for 425 yards. For three quarters, he was outperformed by Roberson, who 19-for-24 for 206 yards and two touchdowns with 62 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The game was delayed with 1:40 remaining while a fan in the stands, said to be the parent of an Eastern Washington, went into cardiac arrest before being attended to and then taken to an area hospital. Illinois State scored on its first four possessions to take a 24-10 lead midway through the second quarter. After Nick Aussieker opened the scoring with a field goal, Coprich scored on a touchdown run set up by a Mike Banks fumble recovery, Brady Tibbits added a scoring run and Roberson passed for a touchdown to Cameron Meredith. But Eastern Washington gained late momentum by pulling within 24-17 on Jabari Wilsons 1-yard TD run with just 36 seconds remaining in the first half. Quincy Forte had scored on a 9-yard run and McNannay kicked a field goal for the Eagles earlier in the half. Illinois States last trip to the playoffs in 2012 ended on the red turf with a 51-35 loss to Eastern Washington. This time, the host Eagles were left seeing red. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sam Houston State (11-4) 34, No. 6 seed Villanova (11-3) 31 Villanova, PA - They have the same Sam Houston State players who opened the season by losing three of their first four games. But realistically, the Bearkats are a much different team today. They are headed back to the FCS semifinals for the third time in four seasons after beating sixth-seeded Villanova, 34-31, in the quarterfinals Saturday while the Wildcats played without star quarterback John Robertson because of symptoms from a concussion. Unseeded Sam Houston State (11-4), which has won three playoff games, will play at second-seeded North Dakota State (13-1) in the semifinals next weekend. The Bearkats lost to the Bison in both the 2011 and 12 national championship games. Sam Houston has few key players from those recent powers and even a first-year coach in K.C. Keeler, but the Bearkats has put it all together at the right time of the season. That was a well-played football game by two pretty good teams, said Keeler, who coached against Villanova for 11 seasons in CAA Football from 2002-12 at Delaware. It is great to get the win and great to be in the final four. I dont care who or where we play because it will be exciting no matter what. The Bearkats had prepared to face Robertson in the teams first-ever meeting, but that changed Saturday after he awoke with a headache from the concussion he suffered in last weekends playoff win over Liberty. Robertson, a redshirt junior who was the CAA Football offensive player of the year, went through concussion protocols during the week and was cleared to play against Sam Houston State, but he was scratched by the teams medical staff following an examination Saturday morning. Jalen Overstreets 1-yard touchdown run with 4:03 left to play gave Sam Houston its 34-31 lead. Villanova (11-3), behind Robertsons replacement, senior Chris Polony, moved the ball down to the Bearkats 29, but drew an ill-timed delay- of-game penalty while setting up for a potential, game-tying 46-yard field goal attempt. That made it a 51-yard attempt for Chris Gough and he missed wide to the left with 32 seconds left. Polony played well in relief of Robertson. He completed 13-of-24 pass attempts for 228 yards and one touchdown, and carried the 13 times for 87 yards and two touchdown. Very Robertson-esque, in fact. Sam Houston seems so different because it has jelled with a team that has eight FBS transfers and 18 starters who didnt start in Keelers first spring game. New quarterback Jared Johnson, last years backup behind four-year starter Brian Bell, was 22-for-27 for 303 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Leading 17-16 at halftime, Sam Houston scored on the first play of the third quarter when Johnson threw a 66-yard bomb to LaDarius Brown for their second touchdown connection. But Villanova tailback Kevin Monangai (27 carries, 166 yards) scored on a 58- yard run with 9:36 left in the third quarter and Kevin Gulyas caught the two- point conversation from Polony to tie the game 24-24. Luc Swimberghes 30-yard field goal with 10:54 left in the fourth quarter put Sam Houston back in front, 27-24. But Villanova answered with a nine-play, 67-yard drive, which was capped by Polony rolling out from a shotgun for a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 31-27 Wildcats with 7:15 left. Sam Houston had an answer as well, moving 75 yards in 10 plays and going ahead 34-31 on Overstreets 1-yrd run up the middle at the 4:03 mark. Polony had originally beaten out Robertson for the No. 1 job in 2012, but Robertson had made 35 straight starts for the Wildcats before Saturdays game. Polony accounted for two touchdowns in the first quarter. He connected with wide receiver Poppy Livers for a 54-yard touchdown pass to pull Villanova within 7-6 before the extra point was missed. He later scored on a 36-yard keeper to give the Wildcats a 13-7 lead. But Sam Houston answeredd that score with a 12-play, 80-yard drive, moving back ahead 14-13 after Johnsons second touchdown pass, a 4-yarder to Gerald Thomas with 9:54 remaining in the second quarter.dddddddddddd Swimberghe extended Sam Houstons lead with a 32-yard field goal, but Gough, who missed the earlier extra point, closed the half with a 46-yard field goal to pull the Wildcats within 17-16. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- No. 1 seed North Dakota State (13-1) 39, No. 7 seed Coastal Carolina (12-2) 32 Fargo, ND - North Dakota State trailing in the fourth quarter has been a rarity during its three-year reign as the FCS champion, but the Bison have come from behind to win two consecutive playoff games in eight days. Indeed, they continue to have the collective heart of a champion even as teams get closer in the rear-view mirror. Running back John Crockett rushed for a school playoff-record 227 yards and two touchdowns and became the Bisons new single-season rushing leader while second-seeded North Dakota State held off seventh-seeded Coastal Carolina, 39-32, Saturday for the second consecutive year in the national quarterfinals. The game was far different from North Dakota States 48-14 playoff rout of Coastal last season, but the Bison (13-1) will host Sam Houston State (11-4) in the national semifinals next weekend. The Bison defeated Sam Houston in both the 2011 and 12 national championship games. A week ago, the Bison rallied past Missouri Valley Conference rival South Dakota State in the final minute of their second-round game. On Saturday, they fell behind for the first time, 32-31, on Coastal running back DeAngelo Hendersons 2-yard touchdown run to open the fourth quarter. The Chanticleers, however, failed on a two-point attempt after a second straight score, keeping their lead at one point. North Dakota State then retook the lead two possessions later when Crockett found running room along the Coastal sideline and scored on a 45-yard dash with 9:28 remaining to play. Quarterback Carson Wentz ran up the middle to score a two-point conversion and lift the Bison advantage to 39-32. On Coastals next drive, the Chanticleers converted a fake punt just inside their territory, but didnt gain another first down on the drive. After NDSUs Adam Keller missed a 49-yard field goal that could have put the win away, Bison safety Colten Heagle (team-high 12 tackles) stymied the Chants final drive with an interception of Alex Ross just inside Bison territory with 53 seconds remaining. Crockett, whos gained three 1,000-yard seasons, has 1,754 this season on a school-record 320 carries, including 26 on Saturday. Hes scored 17 of his 18 touchdowns on the ground. Wentz accounted for three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in the win. But Big South co-champion Coastal Carolina (12-2) was nearly up to the challenge, scoring the most points against NDSU during the Bisons playoff win streak. Henderson had 143 rushing yards and the touchdown, Ross rushed for two touchdowns and All-American Quinn Backus finished with eight tackles to end his illustrious career with 441 stops, 14th on the FCS all-time list. North Dakota State, which had won 22 straight home games and 14 consecutive playoff games, had hoped to assert itself in the second half after clinging to a 24-20 halftime advantage. After Coastals offense went three-and-out to begin the third quarter, the Bison completed a nine-play, 69-yard drive with Wentzs 2-yard scoring run around right end providing a 31-20 lead. But Ross capped the Chanticleers following possession by diving into the North Dakota State for a 4-yard touchdown and they pulled within 31-26 at the 3:29 mark. Hendersons go-ahead touchdown capped a quick-strike, four-play drive which went 95 yards when Ross had a 48-yard pass to John Israel, Henderson a 32-yard run and Ross a 13-yard pass to Osharmar Abercrombie. The first half featured offensive firepower as North Dakota State took a 24-20 lead at halftime. Crockett opened the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown and Wentz fired touchdowns to Kevin Vaadeland and Luke Albers. But Coastal moved the chains and Devin Brown returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown midway through the second quarter, tying the game at 17-17. Alex Catrons 25-yard field goal on the final play of the half pulled Coastal within 24-20. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday, Dec. 12 No. 1 seed New Hampshire (12-1) 35, No. 8 seed Chattanooga (10-4) 30 Durham, NH - All-American wide receiver R.J. Harris is noted as being New Hampshires hardest worker. No doubt hes the Wildcats best player. Harris caught two touchdowns, including on a 61-yard screen pass in the fourth quarter that helped put away top-seeded New Hampshires 35-30 victory over eighth-seeded Chattanooga in the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs Friday night. The win gives the Wildcats (12-1) a semifinal-round date at home next weekend against either fourth-seeded Eastern Washington or fifth-seeded Illinois State, who face each other in another quarterfinal on Saturday. New Hampshire, making its 11th straight playoff appearance under coach Sean McDonnell, has captured 12 straight wins and 14 straight home games, both program records. Harris decisive second touchdown was electrifying. New Hampshire clung to a 28-24 lead in a back-and-forth game when it took possession of the ball at its 39 following a Chattanooga punt early in the fourth quarter. On first down, Harris went in motion and took a handoff from quarterback Sean Goldrich. Harris lateraled the ball to fellow wide receiver Jimmy Giansante, who then flipped it back to Goldrich. The senior signal caller lofted a screen pass to Harris in the backfield at the 30, who immediately picked up blocks and blew past Chattanooga defenders along the sideline to give the Wildcats the games first double-digit lead, 35-24, with 11:04 remaining to play. Nick Cefalo then intercepted Chattanooga quarterback Jacob Huesman on the Mocs ensuing drive and New Hampshire begin milking game clock from there. Huesman had dominated the first half before the Wildcats had defensive answers after halftime. But on Chattanoogas next possession, running back Derraine Craine scored on an 8-yard pass from Huesman with 1:32 left to pull the Mocs with 35-30. With no remaining timeouts, the Mocs needed to recover the ensuing onside kick, but New Hampshires Keith Parkinson did. The Wildcats ran out the clock from there and advanced to the national semifinals for the second consecutive season. Last year, they were eliminated at eventual national champion North Dakota State one step shy of the national championship game. Harris finished with seven receptions for 172 yards. Until his second touchdown, the first-ever meeting between the two conference champions - New Hampshire in CAA Football and Chattanooga in the Southern Conference - was extremely tight. Huesman had 428 total yards and accounted for three touchdowns in Chattanoogas loss, which ended a seven-game losing streak. Goldrich threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score for New Hampshire. The Wildcats went ahead for good 28-24 on Nico Steritis 6-yard draw with 13:23 left in the fourth quarter. But the play nearly didnt happen. Chattanooga defensive back Trevor Knight intercepted Goldrich in the Mocs end zone. But video replay confirmed Knight didnt re-establish himself in the end zone before catching the ball. On the next play, Steriti scored his second touchdown of the game to erase a 24-22 New Hampshire deficit. An attempt for a two-point conversion failed, however. Trailing 22-21 after three quarters, Chattanooga (10-4) went ahead when Henrique Ribeiro kicked a 27-yard field goal on the second play of the fourth quarter. The kick stopped a string of four straight missed field goal attempts by Ribeiro during the playoffs. New Hampshire had kept seven of its previous opponents to under 20 points, but Chattanooga took a 21-15 lead into halftime after Huesman scored from 1 yard out with 21 seconds remaining in the second quarter. It completed a huge first half in which he was 15-for-17 for 167 yards and rushed for another 64 yards and two touchdowns. His second touchdown erased a 15-14 Mocs deficit. Goldrich threw a 49-yard scoring pass to Harris with 4:47 left and then holder Andy Vailas ran in a faked extra point for the two-point conversion. Troy Tulowitzki just hopes no one will hold any grudges when he picks the National League participants for the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game. The Colorado Rockies shortstop will serve as captain of the NL side and select the four other members for the derby. Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays is in charge of the American League. "To be the captain, I dont know if thats something Im looking forward to because of how tough the decisions are going to be," Tulowitzki said Monday before the Rockies played the St. Louis Cardinals. "You cant put everybody that wants to participate on your team. So with that, you open yourself up. "But, at the same time, Im honoured to be the National League captain." The event will be held July 14 at Target Field, the night before the showcase game in Minneapolis. Bautista is a two-time major league home run champion. Tulowitzki has hit at least 25 homers in three of the past four seasons. Although the honour was just recently bestowed on Tulowitzki, hes already mulling over his options. Giancarlo Stanton of Miami is high on his list, especially since he leads the league in homers with 20. Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers is also a consideration. Tulowitzki may even select teammate Justin Morneau, especially since the first baseman came up in the Twins organization and it would be a homecoming. "That would be neat for him," said Tulowitzki, who has 18 homers this season. "Obviously, hes a guy I have a relationship with." Given Tulowitzkis relationship with St. Louis outfielder Matt Holliday, he could be a pick, too. Tulowitzki spent some time catching up with his former teammate before Mondays game. Did Holliday lobby to be included? "I dont think so," Tulowitzki said, smiling. "Holliday is just a good friend of mine, someone that I have a great deal of respect for. "If he wanted to participate, hed definitely be someone on the list, but he wasnt (lobbying)." Tulowitzki is hoping players around the NL reach out to him. Rockies pitcher Brett Anderson, whos currently on the disabled list, wrote on his Twitter account: "Fingers crossed Tulo picks me for the home run derby!" Hes listening -- and doesnt want to hear excuses about how the derby may mess up a batters stroke. "You take a look during (batting practice), sometimes Ill go out there and try to hit a home run on every single pitch," Tulowitzki explained. "Its no different from being in the Home Run Derby. "Those are my thoughts. I dont really want to entertain that thought, either. You get back on track. And if youre not doing good, you put some (work in the cage). Its not because of a Home Run Derby." Andre Iguodala Jersey . Debate among drivers over whether F1 could introduce a head protection device onto cars has been reignited at the Russian GP after Red Bull gave a first public test to their aeroscreen concept. The partial canopy has split opinion, but Alonso, one of the grids most experienced figures, believes there should be no argument if a concept proves it can reduce injuries to drivers. Daniel Ricciardo completes a single installation lap with Red Bulls new aeroscreen canopy I think it is a must for safety. We dont need heroes in the sport right now, he told Sky Sports F1.We saw many incidents and many occasions in the last couple of years. Probably all the deaths we had in Formuula 1 and junior categories came from head injuries.dddddddddddd Fernando Alonso says that F1 doesnt need heroes right now So I think we dont want anyone getting hurt in the future. Ferrari have previously tested a halo cockpit protection device We need to trust the FIA on the decision. They have all the information about which one is better, comfortable, safe, he said. There are many factors we cant control, we just look from the outside, but the Red Bull solution probably looks a little bit better from an aesthetic point of view. The Montreal Canadiens are slowly returning to full strength, as head coach Michel Therrien told reporters on Thursday that forward George Parros will return to the lineup when the club takes on the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. Therrien also confirmed that Max Pacioretty will play this weekend, with speculation that he will dress on Saturday night when the Habs visit the Colorado Avalanche. Parros has been out of the lineup since he suffered a concussion in the Canadiens 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 1, after slamming face first into the ice during a fight with Colton Orr. He suffered the injury during an awkward fall in Montreals 3-0 win in Winnipeg. Therrien added that Carey Price will start Friday in Minnesota. LOS ANGELES -- Josh Rutledge began the season at Triple-A before the Colorado Rockies recalled him less than three weeks ago. The little-used second baseman came up big in a key situation on Sunday to help them win another series. Rutledge hit a three-run homer to support Jorge De La Rosas seven strong innings, and the Rockies beat the error-prone the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 in the rubber game of the three-game set. Colorado was leading 3-1 in the sixth when Rutledge drove Hyun-Jin Ryus 89th and final pitch into the left-field pavilion. Rutledges homer was the 16th of his career, and his first with more than one man on base since his grand slam on Sept. 16, 2012, at San Diego. He came into the game with one RBI in 18 at-bats. "That was a big at-bat by Rut. Obviously, that changes the game there," manager Walt Weiss said. "Hes not playing every day, but hes working hard and staying ready until he gets an opportunity." Nolan Arenado had two hits and extended his career-best hitting streak to 17 games -- the longest active string in the majors. The Gold Glove third baseman also robbed Scott Van Slyke of extra bases, making a diving stop across the foul line behind third base and throwing him out. "I told him that was one of the top three plays Ive ever seen him make. And thats saying something, because we know theres a pretty good collection," Weiss said. "Hes as good as Ive seen, and hes changed several games this year with his defence." The Rockies won their fourth straight series after beating San Diego, Philadelphia and San Francisco. "We feel really good about it," right fielder Brandon Barnes said. "We dont take anything for granted and we keep battling every day." De La Rosa (2-3) allowed a run and four hits. The left-hander has beaten the Dodgers in three straight starts after going 0-8 with a 7.32 ERA in his 10 previous career starts against them. "I just tried to attack the hitters," De La Rosa said. "I know those guys and they know me, too. So I was just trying to make my pitches." Ryus two-out single in the second inning was Los Angeles last hit until Matt Kemp doubled to right-centre with two outs in the eighth against Adam Ottavino. Ryu (3-2) gave up six runs and nine hits in five-plus innings. The Korean-born lefty is 0-2 with a 9.69 ERA in his three starts at Dodger Stadium, but 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in four road starts. "The key against him is getting a good pitch to hit and being able to drive it," Barnes said. "He likes to stay on the corner, so you just have to try to get a ball up." Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez didnt start because of a bruised right thumb and Justin Turner filled in for him. Turner made one of the Dodgers three errors. They have 26 on the season. "We just need to relax a little bit and play good defence and be the good defensive players we all are," Turner said. "I wouldnt say were pressing, but everyones aware of whats going on. Sometimes I guess you try a little harder and then you get out of character." Turners throwing error in the second inning on De La Rosas two-out single in the hole put runners at second and third. Ryu hit major league batting leader Charlie Blackmon with a pitch and gave up a two-run single by Barnes that put the Rockies ahead 2-1. Three innings later, Ryu committed his first error in 37 major league starts when he bobbled a sacrifice bunt by Barnes and threw too late to first base. Blackmon scored the Rockies third run, beating the throw by Turner after he tagged out Barnes in a rundown on an attempted steal. Kemp also dropped a fly ball for the Dodgers. Adrian Gonzalez had an RBI single in the first to make it 1-0 Los Angeles. Ramirez pinch-hit in the ninth and got a two-out infield single against Chris Martin, who was making his second big league appearance. Gordon followed with a single that loaded the bases for Yasiel Puig, who grounded out to end the game. The Canucks, though, are no lock to reach the postseason and they will continue their push for a wild card spot on Thursday night versus the Avs. Vancouver is four points back of Phoenix for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference and has played one more game than the Coyotes, who visit the New Jersey Devils tonight. The Dallas Stars also are one point ahead of the Canucks in the standings and have played two fewer games than Vancouver. That gives the Canucks an uphill battle in reaching the postseason and the squad has responded with its longest winning streak since late December. That includes last nights 5-2 triumph over the Minnesota Wild. David Booth scored twice in the win and Eddie Lack made 29 saves as the Canucks have claimed three straight victories for the first time since Dec. 20-29. Another win tonight would give Vancouver its longest string of victories since a season-best seven-game run from Dec. 1-14. "Were breathing. Thats the most important thing and we found a way tonight," said Canucks head coach John Tortorella. Daniel Sedin, Ryan Kesler and Zack Kassian all added goals for a Vancouver squad that was without captain Henrik Sedin due to a left knee injury suffered in Sundays win against the Buffalo Sabres. He is day-to-day and did not travel with the club for its quick two-game road trip that ends tonight. It is unknown if Lack will get another start tonight or if backup Jacob Markstrom will get the call. Neither has eever faced the Avalanche and Markstrom has made just one appearance in relief since coming over in the trade that sent Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers.dddddddddddd Whoever gets the call will try to extend the Canucks recent string of success over the Avalanche. Vancouver picked up a 3-1 victory over Colorado at home on v19 of the previous 22 encounters. The Canucks also have won 10 of their last 13 trips to Colorado, though they did have a four-game series road win streak snapped in the most recent meeting there on April 13 of last season. The Avs are rolling towards a playoff spot as they own a nine-point edge over the fourth-place Wild in the Central Division and are also a mere three points back of the Chicago Blackhawks for second. Colorado did bring a three-game winless stretch (0-2-1) into Tuesday nights meeting with the Nashville Predators and escaped with a 5-4 shootout victory on the road despite never leading in regulation. Gabriel Landeskog scored twice in regulation and had the deciding shootout tally, while Cody McLeod and Nick Holden both scored to erase third-period deficits. "What I like about our group is we were resilient even if we were not playing our best game," said Colorado head coach Patrick Roy. Semyon Varlamov made 29 saves as Colorado reached 45 wins in a season for the first time since 2001-02. The Avs won a franchise-best 52 victories the previous season en route to a Stanley Cup title. Varlamov will start tonight and is seeking his first career win versus the Canucks, having gone 0-7-1 with a 2.80 goals against average in previous meetings. NEWARK, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils struggled to slow down David Desharnais on Wednesday. Desharnais scored the tying goal with 37 seconds left in the third period and added a goal in the shootout and the Montreal Canadiens rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Devils. "Were finding ways to win games," Desharnais said. "They took the lead and we had to open up things. I just go in there and try to score (in the shootout). (Devils goalie Cory Schneider) opened up his leg and I put it right there." Desharnais tying goal in the third was reviewed by the NHL to see if he had lifted his stick too high in redirecting the slap shot taken by teammate Brian Gionta. "I was sure it was a goal," Desharnais said. "I tipped one earlier this year that was a little higher than that, so there was no doubt." Lars Eller also scored in third period and shootout for Montreal, which also beat the Devils in Montreal on Monday night. Reid Boucher, credited with an assist on Michael Ryders goal in the third period, scored for the Devils in the shootout, breaking a string of 20 straight missed chances by the Devils, who are 0-5 in shootouts this season. The Devils have lost nine straight shootouts, dating back to March 15 in Philadelphia. Devils coach Pete DeBoer picked Boucher to take the first attempt in the shootout, saying that Boucher "was feeling pretty good about his game and it made sense." Boucher admitted to being nervous at first, but he seemed to play better and better as the game went on. "I just heard a couple minutes ago (that his shootout goal snapped a drought)," Boucher said. "We had the lead and it was unfortunate they scored that goal at the end. I was pretty surprised (to be picked). Its a privilege and I wanted to capitalize on my opportunity. A quick fake shot, I kind of took a step over and shot a low blocker." Patrik Elias unassisted goal at 18:54 had given the Devils a 3-2 edge, but Desharnais scored for Montreal and forced overtime with 37 seconds to go. Elias had the final chance to tie it for the Devils in the shootout, but couldnt beat Canadiens goalie Peter Budaj, who ended the game with 31 saves. "Hes a great shooter," Budaj said. "I was just trying to keep my ground and win that battle. I was able to come up with the big save." The teams combined for five goals in the third period. The Devils led 2-1 before Eller scored on a backhand to tie the score at 2-2 at 16:10. Andrei Loktionov and Michael Ryder each scored in the third period to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Boucher assisted on Ryders goal. Gionta scored in the first period to give Montreal a 1-0 lead and Budaj made it hold until Loktionov scored 4:19 into the third period to tie it at 1-1. Ryders seventh goal off a pass from Boucher broke the tie at 9:50. Loktionov received a pass from Marek Zidlicky before he spun inside and let loose a sailing shot past Budaj for a 1-1 tie. Ryders shot beat Budaj to the far side. Gionta scored at 10:36 of the first on a pinpoint pass from the outer edge of the left circle by Daniel Briere. Gionta skated onto the puck at the crease and knocked it past Schneider inside the far post. Seconds before Giontas goal, Devils rookie defenceman Eric Gelinas had his shot at an open net bang off the right post. Cam Janssen of the Devils and Brandon Prust of the Canadiens squared off in a fight 2:35 into the first period. Janssen had hit Alex Galchenyuk against the boards before he was challenged by Prust. Both received five-minute penalties for fighting. Montreal held a 13-9 shot advantage in the first. Boucher got off his first career shot in the opening seconds of the second period, a slap shot that Budaj saved. The Devils pressed forward in the second period, and held a 10-7 shot advantage. Loktionov had a breakaway, but was stopped by Budaj. Budaj also made a save on Jaromir Jagrs shot with eight seconds to go. NOTES: Ryan Carter was placed on injured reserve by the Devils, who recalled Boucher was recalled from Albany (AHL) to take his spot on the roster. Anderson pitched seven innings to become the third pitcher since 1998 to win his first five major league starts, leading the Diamondbacks to a 6-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. David Peralta and Paul Goldschmidt each hit a two-run homer in Arizonas six-run seventh inning. It was Peraltas first major league homer. Anderson (5-0) had a career-best eight strikeouts. He allowed two runs and five hits on his way to becoming the first pitcher to win his first five starts since Jered Weaver won seven straight in 2006. "Words dont describe that," Anderson said, "just going 1-0, 2-0. Each time I go out there Im just trying to give the team a chance to win. ... 5-0 feels amazing." The Diamondbacks have scored 45 runs in Andersons five wins. "Geez, when you get that kind of run support its not too hard to go out there and win games," he said. Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said Anderson "really threw one of his strongest games for us. He made a mistake to (Justin Upton). ... But other than that, very good." Upton, Freddie Freeman and Ramiro Pena homered for the Braves, who lost two of three in Arizona. Aaron Harang (4-5) issued six walks in six-plus innings, and was charged with three runs and four hits. Brad Ziegler, closing instead of home run-plagued Addison Reed, gave up a leadoff homer to Pena but retired the next three for his first save of the season. Gibson said Reed "has a tired arm, nothing serious." Harang (4-5) was working on a two-hitter before Aaron Hill led off the seventh with a single. Peralta then drove the next pitch over the wall in centre, tying it at 2. "He threw me a curveball. He just was hanging it," Peralta said. "I just made my best swing. I saw the ball flying and I was just OK, I got that one. It feels good. I couldnt stop laughing or smiling." Peralta went 2 for 4 and is batting .dddddddddddd429 in seven games since being called up from Double-A Mobile. Harang then walked Cody Ross and was through for the day. Chris Owings added a two-run single off right-hander David Hale, and Goldschmidt hit one far above the 413-foot sign in left-centre for a 6-2 lead. Owings was hitless in nine at-bats in the series before his base hit. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez let Harang bat in the sixth. "You have to let him back out there (in the seventh)," Gonzalez said. "Yeah, he had some walks but we felt comfortable that he could manoeuvr through the lineup. A base hit and a two-run homer ties it. That seventh inning just unraveled on us." The Braves responded with two in the eighth, but lost out on an opportunity for more. Freeman connected against Joe Thatcher, and Tommy La Stella had an RBI single. Andrelton Simmons walked to load the bases before Evan Marshall struck out Gerald Laird to end the inning. Atlanta jumped in front on Uptons two-run drive in the sixth, and that looked as if it might be enough for Harang for a while. Peraltas leadoff single in the fifth was Arizonas first hit of the game. The Diamondbacks went on to load the bases on Andersons bunt for his first major league hit, but failed to score. Anderson got some help from his defence in the fifth. Third baseman Martin Prado made a diving stop of Lairds grounder, and then falling backward threw from his right knee to first, where Goldschmidt snagged it on one bounce for the out. NOTES: Atlantas Jason Heyward went 0 for 5, ending his 11-game hitting streak. ... On Monday, Arizona begins a four-game set with the Astros, the first two in Phoenix, the last two in Houston. DENVER -- Frank Morales didnt try to paint corners or make perfect pitches. Instead, his strategy was relatively simple: Just pitch the ball and see what happens. In this instance, a lot of good things. Morales was masterful on the mound as he outdueled Madison Bumgarner, leading the Colorado Rockies to a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. "Frankies a tough competitor," manager Walt Weiss said. "He was absolutely huge tonight." Morales (2-1) knew it was his night when he unleashed his first sinker and it danced all over the place. He decided right then and there that he wasnt going to be too fine with his splitter or his cutter or even his sinker, just let the pitch do what it naturally does. The hard-throwing lefty allowed five hits over seven innings, which matches the longest outing of his career. His only mistake was a hanging slider to Hunter Pence in the fifth, which he hit for a homer. "I wanted to make sure the hitter is uncomfortable with my pitches," Morales said. Bumgarner (2-2) was nearly as effective as Morales, his only slipups on fastballs to Troy Tulowitzki and Nolan Arenado, whos solo shot in the fifth put the Rockies ahead for good. Bumgarner allowed nine hits in eight innings. It was the first complete game by a Giants starter in 2014 and third of Bumgarners career. "Im not frustrated for myself. We should be winning all these games right now, but just going through a rough patch," said Bumgarner, whose team has dropped five of six. "Its just about getting out of it as quick as you can." Morales hasnt fared all that well against San Francisco in his career, entering the game with a 0-3 mark and a 6.57 ERA. But he handcuffed the Giants most of the game. He worked his way into a jam in his seventh and final inning when he allowed a two-out double to his counterpart, Bumgarner. Morales struck out Angel Pagan with a sinking cutter -- his 99th pitch of the night -- to end the threat. Morales pumped his fist and let out a scream before heading toward the dugout. "All game I was throwing only fastballs away to (Pagan)," Morales explained. "I was like, OK, its time to throw my cutter down and in. Hes not looking for that pitch." No, he wasnt. Pagan wasnt the only Giant guessing at Morales assortment of pitches. "Morales, hes just got good stuff," said Pence, who hit his second homer of the season. "A lot of life on his fastball." Things got a little shaky for Colorado in the eighth, when the Giants had runners on first and second with one out. Rex Brothers was summoned and enticed Pablo Sandoval to hit into a double play to quell the rally. Same thing with the ninth, when LaTroy Hawkins took over after Brothers got the first out of the inning. Hawkins walked pinch hitter Brandon Crawford and allowed a single to Gregor Blanco, who was also pinch hitting. Hector Sanchez, the third straight pinch hitter, struck out and Pagan bounced out to short to end the comeback bid. Arenado hit a solo shot into the seats in left to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 13 games. Hes hitting .365 during the streak, with two homers and six RBIs. Tulowitzki flashed his fielding skills in the top of the fourth and hitting proficiency in the bottom half. With runners at first and second and one out, the smooth-fielding shortstop dove in the hole to snare Joaquin Arias grounder, quickly getting up and throwing to second for a force out. That prevented a potential run from scoring. Tulowitzki then caught Ehire Adrianzas shallow fly to left to get the Rockies out of the sticky situation. Leading off in the bottom of the frame, Tulowitzki homered to left-centre. It was his third homer of the season. Mixing a 93-mph fastball with a late-moving cutter, Bumgarner kept the Rockies off balance most of the night in a hard-luck loss. "Bum pitched great. He did a real nice job," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Complete game, two runs in this ballpark. Thats a nice effort." NOTES: Adrianza wore jersey No. 6 instead of No. 53. ... The result is another serious blow to Vancouvers fading playoff hopes as the club remains five points back of the Phoenix Coyotes for the final wild-card berth in the Western Conference. Luca Sbisa, Matt Beleskey and Mathieu Perreault also scored for Anaheim (48-18-8), while Andrew Cogliano and Daniel Winnik added two assists as the Ducks moved into first place in the Pacific Division. Brad Richardson replied for Vancouver (34-31-11), which got 16 saves from Eddie Lack. The Minnesota Wild left the door open for the Canucks to move within three points of the Wests final playoff spot after a 3-1 road victory in Phoenix, but Vancouver was unable to capitalize on the opportunity. With just six games left on their schedule, it looks as though the Canucks can start making their off-season plans. The Ducks led 2-1 after the first period and increased their lead at 11:02 of the second off a Canucks turnover when Winnik chipped a pass from the side of the net into the slot to Koivu, who buried his 10th of the season. Vancouver had a number of opportunities to make things interesting, including three power plays in the second alone that yielded a lot of possession, but not many clear-cut chances for the leagues 27th-ranked unit. After Koivu gave the Ducks a 3-1 lead, Andersen made consecutive saves off Vancouver forwards Chris Higgins and Jordan Schroeder from in tight before shooting out a pad to stone Zack Kassian moments later. Perry then put the game out of reach by banging home his 38th of the season at 6:45 of the third. Vancouver had a chance to pull one back with about 11 minutes to go, but both Daniel Sedin and Nicklas Jensen failed to find the range from in close against Andersen, who started in place of No. 1 goalie Jonas Hiller. Perreault added insult to injury with his 18th of the season on a Ducks power play at 14:03. Anaheim has thoroughly dominated the ffirst four meetings of its five-game season series with Vancouver, outscoring the Canucks 21-6 and surrendering just one point to its division rivals.dddddddddddd The teams meet for the final time April 7 at Rogers Arena. The Ducks opened the scoring at 7:36 of the first period after the Canucks had a couple of good chances at the other end against Anaheims rookie netminder. The puck was played back to the point to Sbisa, whose shot found its way through a maze of players and past Lack for his first of the season. Beleskey then made it 2-0 just 1:11 later with his sixth of the campaign. Ducks forward Rickard Rakell collected a puck in front of Lack and fed a behind-the-back pass to Beleskey, who beat the helpless Canucks netminder upstairs as Anaheim scored on two of its first five shots. Vancouver got one back at 11:12 off some nice work from Kassian in the offensive zone. The big forward maintained possession at the blue-line before feeding defenceman Ryan Stanton. His shot was kicked out by Andersen right to Richardson and he buried his 10th of the season. Anaheim had a great response to that goal, with Perry hitting the Ducks second and third posts of the period on a dominant shift that saw Vancouver hemmed in its zone for an extended period of time. Higgins had a nice deflection in the slot that Andersen was quick to handle with just over a minute to play before Lack made a glove save on Anaheims Patrick Maroon. Notes: Richardson had a great chance with the game scoreless in the first period, but Andersen made a phenomenal stick save on a shot that he deflected onto the post. ... Ducks forward Teemu Selanne sat out after playing Friday night in Edmonton against the Oilers. The 43-year-old has not played back-to-back games this season, but said after the morning skate that he will play against the Canucks in Vancouver on April 7. ... Kassian now has two goals and five assists during his four-game point streak. ... Perreault now has six goals in his last eight games. ...
