WASHINGTON -- Ryan Zimmerman came forward to make a head-high running catch on a slicing line drive off the bat of Chase Utley, a routine play that drew a disproportionately grand ovation from the home fans. "Thats almost the awkward part of it," Zimmerman said. "Yeah, I caught the ball. Yeah, like, I can catch a fly ball." He might have been embarrassed by all the fuss, but it was nevertheless a landmark moment in career of the player long considered the face of the Washington Nationals franchise. It was his first putout as an outfielder after more than 1,100 games as a third baseman, part of a good night all around for him and his club Tuesday in a 7-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Jordan Zimmermann rebounded from a mini-slump to throw eight scoreless innings, Zimmerman hit a pair of doubles and handled his two chances with aplomb in left field, and the Nationals moved back to .500 by taking the opener of the three-game series. "Theres nothing like getting into the first game and getting a couple of balls," Zimmerman said. "And getting a couple of hits helped, too." Zimmermann (4-2) allowed five hits and struck out four, recovering well from four middling starts that had raised his usually impeccable ERA to 4.07. He got all the support he needed when the Nationals scored three in the third inning off David Buchanan (1-2), making his third career start. "May was a pretty rough month for me, and hopefully June has better things to come," Zimmermann said. "I wanted to go nine, but eightll be good enough." Zimmerman went 2 for 4 with one RBI after being reinstated before the game following 44 games on the disabled list with a broken right thumb. Of greater interest was his move to the outfield, a switch necessitated by his throwing problems and the need for a strong hitter to play left field while Bryce Harper recovers from thumb surgery. Zimmerman said he was initially hesitant to try the outfield, but he realized his chronic shoulder problems mean his days as a regular third baseman are numbered. Ever the team player, he said he just wanted to help the club win -- even if theres likely not a Gold Glove in it for him, like the one he won playing third in 2009. "I feel like Im athletic enough to at least blend in," he said. "And not cause problems." Like many infielders-turned-outfielders before him, he learned the action isnt as fast and furious when stationed 300 feet from home plate. Playing deeper than a usual left fielder and using a glove borrowed from teammate Jayson Werth, he fielded only the liner from Utley and a shallow flyout by Marlon Byrd in the sixth before being removed for defensive replacement Nate McLouth after seven innings. There was no complaint about the lack of work. "That means our pitchers are doing a good job," Zimmerman said. "I just catch what comes to me." Its Zimmermans bat thats really needed by the Nationals, who slumped at the plate for most of last month and have been hovering around .500 in the NL East. They started hitting better in a weekend series against the Texas Rangers, however, and have scored 26 runs in their last four games. Zimmerman doubled to left in the second and to right in the fifth, and each time a black padded glove was brought to him to wear to protect his thumb as he ran the bases. Werth added a two-run double in the third, Denard Span had three hits, and Ian Desmond and Anthony Rendon homered for the Nationals. The Phillies lost their fourth straight and were shut out for the eighth time this season, failing to get any impetus from a pregame team meeting called by manager Ryne Sandberg. Sandberg addressed focus and fundamentals, but theres only so much the manager could do about Zimmermanns mid-90s fastball and debilitating slider. Philadelphia is 9-18 since May 4. "We werent able to get anything going offensively, got shut down by a good pitcher," Sandberg said. "He kind of set the tone for the game." NOTES: The Phillies optioned RHP Phillippe Aumont to Triple-A Lehigh Valley and recalled RHP Ethan Martin from Lehigh Valley. ... Philadelphia signed RHP Jason Marquis to a minor league contract. He will report to Class-A Clearwater for extended spring training. ... Bayern was on track to win all three trophies again this season and could clinch the Bundesliga titlee this weekend.dddddddddddd The 30-year-old Robben said he was having "incredible fun" with Bayern and was looking forward "to many more titles." "We are very pleased that Arjen has extended his contract," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said. "He is a great player and hes shown his importance for Bayern, not only in the Wembley final. LOUIS -- Theres one preseason game left for Aaron Rodgers, who figures hell play at least a half against Seattle. Guess what hes dying to do? "Id like to score a touchdown, thats kind of the first priority," Rodgers said after the Green Bay Packers settled for field goals off three productive drives in a 19-7 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Saturday night. "But weve had four good drives, four out of four. Weve just got to get more points, weve got to put the ball in the end zone." Rodgers got the Packers (1-1) on the scoreboard for the first time in the preseason. Not that coach Mike McCarthy had been worried about an offence that averaged 27 points last season, or the final score for that matter. McCarthy said his first priority was quality opportunities for players, the second was effective play in all three phases, "and the third priority is winning the game." "If you dont like that, I get that," McCarthy said. "Trust me, I want to win every play, every game, but were a young team." Sam Bradford had only himself to blame for putting up nice numbers, going 8 for 12 for 156 yards, with nothing to show for four possessions. His highlight throw was a 57-yarder that hit Chris Givens in stride to the Packers 4, but Bradford fumbled away the snap on fourth-and-goal from the 1 late in the first quarter with the Rams (0-2) trailing 3-0. "Thats on me. I just missed it," Bradford said. "Ive got to make sure I have the ball before I get out of there. Its unacceptable. "You cant have that happen. Thats what cost us this game." Both Packers starting wide receivers are out with injuries, so Rodgers leaned on tight end Jermichael Finley while going 10 for 12 for 134 yards. All three drives stalled and the Packers had a pair of field goals by Mason Crosby when Rodgers turned the offence over to backup Graham Harrell in the second quarter. The Packers got shut out 17-0 by Arizona in the preseason opener with Rodgers playing just one series. The Rams averted a shutout on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Austin Davis to Nick Johnson in the final minute. The Rams got offensive skill upgrades, tight end Jared Cook and wide receiver Tavon Austin, involved for the first time. Cook had a 37-yard reception, almost all the yards coming after grabbing a low pass from Bradford, and Austin caugght four passes but for just 28 yards.dddddddddddd "When youre part of an offence thats supposed to put up points, those are the things you have to look at," Cook said. "Thats our job and thats what were supposed to be here for. "The fact that we didnt do that is bothersome." Isaiah Pead started at running back for St. Louis, a chance to gain on front-runner Daryl Richardson, but was held to 19 yards on 11 carries. Packers first-round pick Datone Jones, a defensive end, did not dress after injuring an ankle last week. Wide receiver Jordy Nelson is expected back from knee injury in time for the opener and Randall Cobb, who had a team-leading 80 receptions last season, has a biceps injury. Finley caught four passes for 76 yards in the first half. Rookie Eddie Lacy, competing with injured DuJuan Harris for the running back job, had 40 yards on eight carries plus an 11-yard reception by the break. Crosby was 3 for 3, connecting from 34 and 48 yards in the first half on Rodgers series, and adding a 30-yarder in the third quarter that had enough despite getting tipped by the Rams Cody Davis. Tryout Giorgio Tavecchio missed a 49-yard attempt in the first quarter and hit a 38-yarder near the end of the half for a 9-0 lead. The Rams stalled at the Green Bay 38 on their opening drive when Bradford hit Austin for a 3-yard gain on fourth-and-5 and Greg Zuerlein missed a 50-yard field goal attempt on Bradfords other possession. Bradford threw a touchdown pass in the preseason opener, a 27-19 loss at Cleveland. Johnny Jolly made big plays on two interceptions against Kellen Clemens in the third quarter, deflecting a pass at the line that was intercepted by Jarrett Bush to set up a field goal, and then picking off Clemens in the end zone. The latter took punt returner Brandon Smith off the hook for a lost fumble at the Green Bay 10. Clemens, competing with Austin Davis to be Bradfords backup, has thrown two interceptions in both preseason games. He was 2 for 11 for 27 yards. Vince Young opened the second half at quarterback for Green Bay and was 5 for 29 for 26 yards. Will Witherspoon started at outside linebacker for the Rams ahead of Jo-Lonn Dunbar, who is suspended the first four games for violating the NFLs substance abuse policy. Dunbar saw his first action in the second quarter. SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- David Lee had 23 points and 11 rebounds, Klay Thompson scored 18 points and the Golden State Warriors held off the Sacramento Kings 101-92 on Wednesday night in a game both teams played short-handed. Stephen Curry added 13 points and eight assists for the Warriors (32-22) in the first game following the All-Star break for each team. Golden State is 3-0 against Sacramento this season. With both centres out with injuries and a shorter roster from trades each team made earlier in the day, the depth of the Warriors was just too much for the Kings to overcome. Isaiah Thomas had 26 points and seven assists, and Travis Outlaw scored 18 points for a Sacramento (18-36) team thats headed for an eighth straight losing season. Quincy Acy grabbed a career-high 12 boards to help the Kings outrebound the Warriors 49-35, but Sacramento committed 21 turnovers, fading in the closing minutes. The game was played in the aftermath of a busy day for both Northern California teams. The Kings traded guard Marcus Thornton to Brooklyn for veterans Jason Terry and Reggie Evans in the afternoon. Just before tipoff, the Warriors acquired point guard Steve Blake from the Los Angeles Lakers for reserves Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks. Andrew Bogut also missed his fifth straight game for the Warriors with a left shoulder injury. DeMarcus Cousins, who strained his left hip flexor in Sacramentos final game before the break in New York, also sat out. Both centres are day to day. The Kings dropped to 0-8 without Cousins this season but still led 76-75 entering the fourth quarter. The Warriors quickly put together a pair of scoring spurts to pull away. Lee converted a layup through traffic, Thompson made a 3-pointer and Andre Iguodala hit a fadeway jumper in an 8-0 run that gave Golden State an 86-79 lead early in the fourth. After the Kings started to rally, Iguodala found Draymond Green for a dunk, and Lee followed with a layup that put the Warriors up 94-84 with 3:28 remaining that all but sealed it. Most of the game played out in similar fashion. The Warriors went ahead by 10 points in the first quarter and 15 in the second, spreading the floor and moving the ball fast without any true centres on the court. The Kings had come back each time, though, playing just like the two-faced team theyd been before the All-Streak break -- prone to scintillating scoring spurts but, at times, lacking defence and discipline -- that buried them at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. Sacramento scored the final nine points of the third quarter, including the last six by Thomas, to take a 76-75 lead before the Warriors pulled away for good. The team announced the suspension on its Twitter feed, with no further explanation. Manager Fredi Gonzalez also declined to elaborate when asked about the punishment before the Braves game against the Chicago Cubs. "Im not going to say anything other than that its an internal matter," he said. "Thats the way I like to handle stuff, and the Atlanta Braves like to handle stuff. And thats it. You can ask me 400 different ways and my way is that were going to handle it internally." The 34-year-old Uggla has played sparingly since rookie Tommy La Stella was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett on May 28. The three-time All-Star is batting .162 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 48 games. The Braves acquired Uggla in a November 2010 trade with the Marlins, and then signed the three-time All-Star to a $62 million, five-year contract before his first game with Atlantaa.dddddddddddd He is slated to make $13 million next year in his final season under the deal. Uggla had a 33-game hitting streak and connected for 36 homers in his first season with the Braves, but most of his numbers have been trending down over the past couple of years. He hit just .179 with 22 homers and 171 strikeouts in 2013, when Atlanta won the NL East and lost to the Dodgers in the division series. Gonzalez said he expects Uggla to be with the team when it begins the second half at home against the Phillies on Friday. He also isnt worried about the effect of the suspension on his team. "I dont think so. I got a pretty good pulse of our clubhouse," he said. "If anybody wants to talk to me, my door is always open. And they know that." Atlanta also promoted infielder Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett before its series finale against the Cubs. Gosselin hit .345 with five homers and 30 RBIs in 88 games with Gwinnett. "Hes had a terrific first half of the Triple-A season," Gonzalez said. TORONTO – He deftly bounced the Tyler Bozak feed off his left skate and onto the blade of his stick before beating a flabbergasted Craig Anderson with the eventual game-winner, and third goal of yet another scorching night. It was the summation of the fifth career hat trick and fifth career 30-goal season for Phil Kessel – he also added an assist – whose scorching play continues to lead a burning Leafs run, one that reached nine wins in 11 games at the ACC on Saturday night. “Its fun to watch,” Nazem Kadri said of Kessels play after a 6-3 win over Ottawa, the 23-year-old catching fire himself in recent weeks. “Hes making plays out there left, right and centre so well just keep letting him do what he does.” Kessel has mesmerized with his electric production amid the Leafs charge – which has them three points back of Tampa for second in the Atlantic division – totaling 10 goals and 23 points in the past 12 games. He has vaulted into fourth in league scoring with 61 points, now trailing only Alex Ovechkin with 30 goals – the fourth time hes reached that mark in five seasons with the Leafs, the lockout-shortened 48-game season the lone exception. The 26-year-old, set to join Team USA for the second time at the upcoming Olympics in Sochi, appears well on his way to eclipsing a career-high of 37 markers and could very well challenge the 40-goal plateau for the first time. “Its hard to really put a limit on him,” said Bozak, who had a goal and an assist and now has 29 points in 33 games this season. “He can get so streaky. Three goals tonight, who knows next game. You never know with him. I definitely wouldnt doubt him getting 40 goals by any means.” Kessel is on pace for 43 goals and 88 points, both of which would prove career-highs. Toronto is 16-3-3 when he scores this season and 26-6-4 when he records a point. Five Points 1. Kessel vs. Ottawa With their third win in three tries against the Senators this season, the Leafs have now beaten their Ontario rival nine times in the past 10 meetings. Much of that success is owed to their leading scorer, who toys with Ottawa like no other. Kessel has 18 goals and 35 points versus the Senators in 25 games as a Leaf and more career goals (25) and points (46) against them than any other team. 2. Kessels All-Around Game Though his performance is aptly judged on the level of offence he produces, Kessels all-around efforts and competitiveness have notably risen during the Leafs sizzling run, which sees them with 66 points on the year. Pointing first to the deadly shot and skating ability of his teammate, Joffrey Lupul observed that “you know when [Kessels] really playing well because of how hes competing on pucks down-low in the offensive end – turning his back, protecting the puck – and hes been doing that for a while now. It makes him really effective down there.” Added Randy Carlyle: “Hes been classified as this one type of player and we think that hes got more of an all-around ability too because he can distribute the puck, he can pass the puck, he can find people, he can do a lot more things than just shoot.” Kessel has 13 assists during the 12-game run. 3. Secondary Hot Streak Kadris hot streak also kept marching on against the Senators. The 23-year-old set up Lupul for the Leafs second goal – which erased a 2-0 deficit – infuriating the Ottawa bench as he did so. Aggressive on the forecheck, Kadri connected with rookie defender Cody Ceci from behind before digging out the puck and feeding his teammate, who was all alone parked in front. The visitors believed a penalty should have been called on the hit from behind and the goal waved off. “I think he turned just to try and give himself a little more room,” Kadri said of Ceci. “At that point Im just fully committed to hit and I just finished my check. To be honest, I did let up a little bit and the puck was laying there and I just put it in front.” Kadri, who played over 23 minutes (nearing a season-high), also added an empty-netter and has 14 points in the past nine games. He is up to 40 points in 53 games this season. 4. Back on Track In a stretch of 20 games between November and December, Joffrey Lupul failed to find the score-sheet 16 times, producing points (10) in just four games. Bouncing between left and right wing, Lupul played with a rotating cast of centres that included everyone from Jay McClement to James van Riemsdyk to Peter Holland and Trevor Smith. “You would like to stay on one line the entire year because that means, for me youre staying healthy first of all, and having success with your linemates,” the 30-year-old told the Leaf Report late last month. “But weve had so many guys in and out of the lineup – myself included, Clarkson, Kulemin, Bozak, everyones been out – theres been nothing really set in stone other than Phil and JVR together, thats been pretty much the only thing.” Entrenched with the same linemates – Nik Kulemin and Nazem Kadri – for the past eight games, while back at his preferred left wing, Lupul is finding a more consistent offensive touch. He scored his 17th goal against the Senators and now has eight points in the past eight games, totaling 33 points in 48 games this season. “Hes a different player on the left side,” said Carlyle. 5. Riellys Improvement Questioned on where he had improved most from the start of his first full NHL training camp, 19-year-old Morgan Rielly pointed to the defensive end. “Id like to think there are a few things Ive improved on,” he told the Leaf Report. “I would say playing defence in my own end. I think thats an area of the game that as a team weve been trying to improve. I think as we kept practicing that and keep talking about it I think that Ive been able to improve at that. But I think I can keep working at it.” More specifically, Rielly said hes improved in his ability to close out on opposing forwards, sealing them against the glass and thus more quickly erasing offensive opportunities. “Just trying to end plays,” he said. “I think that in the past I was just trying to keep them outside. I was a bit too cautious. I think Ill get stronger at just closing in on them and just trying to end the play.” Now paired with Tim Gleason, Riellys defensive assignments are getting tougher and included Ottawa captain Jason Spezza on Saturday evening. Stats-Pack 23 – Points for Phil Kessel in the past 12 games, totaling 10 goals in that span. 14 – Points in the past nine games for Nazem Kadri. 8 – Times in the past nine games that Kadri has registered at least a point. 6 – Consecutive wins for the Leafs at home, the first time theyve accomplished that feat since Mar.6 – Apr. 7, 2007 (9-game streak). 26 – Power-play goals for the Leafs at home this season, most in the NHL. 16-3-3 – Leafs record this season when Kessel scores a goal. 18 – Goals for Kessel in 25 career games as a Leaf against Ottawa. 3:43 – Ice-time for Greg McKegg in his NHL debut. 10-10 – Toronto penalty kill in the past three games. Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Right when it appeared the Chicago Bulls were on the verge of a late charge, Hassan Whiteside swatted away any chances of a comeback. Whiteside recorded his first career triple-double in just 24 minutes, posting 14 points, 13 rebounds and a franchise-record 12 blocks as the Miami Heat defeated the Bulls 96-84 on Sunday afternoon. There werent any NBA teams calling the 7-footer a few months ago, but Whiteside kept at it. Three months ago I was at the downtown Y just chilling, working on my game, Whiteside said. Then the Heat came calling in late November and the rest is history. Taj Gibsons tip-in got the Bulls within 91-84 with 1:59 left and it looked like Aaron Brooks had a free lane to the basket a possession later, but Whiteside came out of nowhere to make the block. Dwyane Wade, who netted 12 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, then nailed a turnaround jumper from the left wing at the other end to put the game away. Chris Bosh tallied 20 points and seven rebounds, Luol Deng supplied 15 points and 10 boards and Mario Chalmers added 15 points and five assists for Miami, which has won five of its last eight games. It was Dengs first game back in Chicago since being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers last January. He signed with the Heat during the offseason. Pau Gasol had 13 points and 17 rebounds, while Derrick Rose provided 19 points and four assists for the Bulls, who had won their last two games coming in on the heels of a 2-6 stretch. Started off slow, it cost us a loss, Rose said. After a runner from Chicagos Kirk Hinrich tied the game at 20-20 late in the opening frame, a 10-0 Miami run that bled into the second helped it seize control. Whiteside put in a hook shot, Chalmers knocked down a 3-pointer and Deng split a pair of free throws to stake the Heat to a 26-20 advantage following a quarter of play. Whitesides dunk capped the burst and gave Miami a 30-20 margin early in the second. The Heat led 48-38 at the break and 74-62 after three quarters. Game Notes Alonzo Mourning held the previous Heat single-game blocks record with nine ... Miami had dropped seven of its last eight regular-season contests in Chicago ... Whiteside had missed the last two games with a sprained ankle ... Brooks finished with 17 points off the bench ... Miami won despite going just 1-of-13 from beyond the arc. Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys . LOUIS -- The St.PHILADELPHIA - The NHLs Olympic break is less than two weeks away but the threat of terrorism is keeping the situation volatile. After deputy commissioner Bill Daly said the league would consider pulling out of Sochi if something "significant" happens before players arrive, those set to participate are trying not to worry about that scenario. "Between the NHL and the NHLPA and the Olympic people, in communication obviously with the people in Russia, theyre going to advise us if we shouldnt go," Ken Holland of Canadas management team said Tuesday. "Im looking at the lead of the NHL. "Until they tell us were not going, Im going to Newark and going to jump on a plane and go to Sochi." A Hockey Canada spokesman said the organization had no official comment, adding nothing has changed about the situation. Charter planes are scheduled to leave for Sochi on Feb. 9, two days after the opening ceremony. Security concerns are keeping athletes on edge well before that, though Daly said in an email to the Associated Press he doesnt expect the plan to change. "Obviously, if something significant were to transpire between now and February 9 that causes us to question that conclusion, we will re-evaluate," Daly told the AP. Forward Tomas Tatar, who will represent Slovakia, read about that Tuesday morning before the Detroit Red Wings morning skate. "There would (have to) be a good reason if something happens before," Tatar said. "Obviously that would be not everythings OK there, so I would probably agree with the people here — why we should go there if something is not good? Hopefully nothing will happen and I think everythings in good hands." Olympic teammate Andrej Meszaros, a defenceman for the Philadelphia Flyers, said that possibility is in the back of his mind even if he doesnt want it to be. "It would be disappointing, thats for sure, but safety first," Meszaros said. "Theres nothing you can do about it. "Unfortunately, the world is like it is with the threats and theres nothing you can do about it. People are (ticked) off. Well see what happens in the next few days." Mark Streit, who represented Switzerland in Salt Lake City in 2002, Turin in 2006 and Vancouver in 2010, is trying to keep his focus on the Flyers upcoming schedule and not the off-chance NHL players wont go to Sochi. "Thhe NHL will do what they think is the best for the players and for our safety and for the families safety," Streit said.dddddddddddd"Thats out of (our) control. Im not really worried about that." Jimmy Howard, whos expected to be the third U.S. goaltender, is more worried about bouncing back from another knee injury. He insisted hes not thinking about Olympic contingency plans or security concerns. "Im trying not to let that consume me,"Howard said. "I look at it as this could be possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. "Im hoping everything goes off without a hitch." U.S. forward James van Riemsdyk said after the Maple Leafs morning skate in Toronto on Tuesday he doesnt have any family members going and that its tough not to wonder about the safety of athletes in Sochi. "Theyve reassured us that theyre taking a lot of measures over there," van Riemsdyk said. "All the players want to play, thats not really the issue here. Safety is the No. 1 priority." Jakub Voracek of the Czech Republic is hoping the Russian government has spent enough money to keep everyone safe. "I think the security, its very tight there," the Flyers winger said. "Obviously its going to be a pain, probably, for the people that want to watch the games or something. But its what you got to do. "In todays world you never know what happens. You go into the mall right here and theres a shooting. You go to the movie theatre, you get shot. A lot of crazy people running around in the world today. Its not only in Russia. Youve got to make sure that the securitys very tight." While Howard hopes these are just "empty threats" against the Olympics, Holland recalled similar concerns going into Vancouver. Political concerns in that region of Russia have made this seem like a more dangerous situation. "I think in this world we live in today, unfortunately there are times that you always have concern," Holland said. "But you have to trust that the people that are in charge of security are going to be on top of things." The Players Association said in a statement "the NHLPA continues to be in contact with Olympic and security officials regarding plans for the Olympic Games in Sochi, and will work closely with all concerned to monitor matters in advance of and during the Games." With the Senators set to play their first game after the Olympic break and with the trade deadline looming, heres a look at 10 burning questions for the Ottawa Senators heading into the stretch drive. 1. Do the Senators really need to find a winger for Jason Spezza? We are less than a week away from the NHL trade deadline and most experts agree that the Senators need help up front - specifically finding a winger for Jason Spezza. Bryan Murray told reporters last week that he would ideally like to get a winger who has term left on his contract, saying he would prefer to stay away from rentals. While Spezza has struggled at times this season, he did head into the Olympic break on a hot streak - collecting six points in his last three games. Milan Michalek also seemed to be playing his best hockey of the season before the break and if he can return to a reasonable facsimile of his 2011-12 self, the Sens may not need to add a scoring forward on Spezzas wing. Still, the Sens only have three games left before the Olympic break, so it would be a tall order for the Greening-Spezza-Michalek line to convince Murray that they have re-discovered their chemistry. The smart money is on the Senators finding another winger to bring into the mix, but obtaining a rental still may be the most likely scenario. 2. What is the future of Chris Phillips in Ottawa? Chris Phillips becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and there is no doubting the Senators could land a nice return for the veteran blueliner if they moved him at the deadline. The market for a veteran defenceman was set fairly high last year when the Buffalo Sabres received two second round picks from the Los Angeles Kings for Robyn Regehr. However, the Senators have always been hesitant to move a defenceman at the deadline when they are in the playoff race. In 2010 they hung onto Anton Volchenkov, in 2012 they did not move Filip Kuba and last year they kept Sergei Gonchar. All three cases had the exact same outcome: 1. The Senators made the playoffs2. The Senators lost in the first or second round3. The defencemen left the team in the off-season. (Volchenkov and Kuba via free agency, while Gonchar was dealt just before the start of free agency for a late-round pick). Phillips case is a little more intriguing because he is perceived as a legacy player and in the aftermath of the Daniel Alfredsson saga, the organization may be a little more cautious dealing with him. But considering Murray has never moved a defenceman at the deadline before, its hard to see him changing his mind this year - especially with a player with Phillips reputation in this community. Its more likely that Phillips future will be decided in the off-season and if he does want to explore free agency, the Senators could try and use the same approach they did with Gonchar and move Phillips for a draft pick. 3. Should Bryan Murray trade a defenceman at the deadline? For most of this season, the Senators have been carrying eight defencemen on the NHL roster. But Joe Corvo has been essentially sent into exile - having suited up for just two games since the calendar flipped to 2014. Eric Gryba has played his way into the lineup lately, leaving Patrick Wiercioch as the odd man out. The club also has Mark Borowiecki playing in the minors and he appears ready to play at the NHL level right now. Since there are always an abundance of teams who need defencemen at the deadline, Murray could be dealing form a position of strength here. But if he moves someone like Wiercioch, you would have to imagine Murray would be looking for someone with term on his contract - and not simply a rental. 4. Is Cody Ceci ready to play heavy minutes in crucial games? Its ironic that the Sens could be in the position to move a defenceman because two months ago, Bryan Murrays biggest need was on the back end. He pursued Michael Del Zotto from the New York Rangers, but balked when the asking price was too high. Instead, the Senators went for an internal solution with Cody Ceci and the 20-year-old was instrumental in solving the clubs puck-moving woes. But while Ceci was logging more than 20 minutes a night for a while, his ice time was drastically reduced just before the Olympic break. In crucial games against Pittsburgh and St. Louis, Ceci played just over 11 minutes on both nights. Considering those were must-win games on the road, it will be interesting to see how Paul MacLean uses Ceci down the stretch in some very important games. 5. When will Jared Cowen go back to being Jared Cowen? In the Canadian hockey rule book it clearly states there has to be a whipping boy for the fans and media each season. This year, nobody has taken as much abuse as Jared Cowen from the Senators faithful. Cowen has not looked anywhere as good as he did during his rookie season in 2011-12, when he established himself as one of the most solid young defencemen in the game. This season has been a struggle for the young blueliner, who is still playing more than 20 minutes a night. This is also the first year of his new four-year contract which will pay him an average of $3.1 million per season. There have been some fans grumbling that Cowen is entering Tyler Myers territory, but its probably too soon to make that comparison. He still looks like he is recovering from the effects of hip surgery from last season and much like Erik Karlsson, it may take him a significant amount of time to return to his old self. But if Cowen can look like the 2011-12 version of himself who was dominant on some nights, the Senators back end will look a lot more intimidating. 6. Will Mika Zibanejad and Zack Smith get enough ice time at centre? Paul MacLean has come back from the Olympic break and announced that Mika Zibanejad will be a centre from this point forward - barring any unforeseen circumstances. So if that is the case, how will MacLean juggle his lines so that his centremen will each get enough ice time to be effective? Spezza and Turris usually play between 18-20 minutes a night and if that trend continues, it would leave roughly 20-22 total minutes to be shared by Zibanejad and Smith. So if Zibanejad were to play 14 minutes, that could leave only six or seven minutes for Zack Smith. Perhaps the solution here is to really roll four lines and centremen who all log close to 15 minutes of ice time each night. 7. Can Craig Anderson continue his strong play? Craig Anderson wont be in the building tonight against the Red Wings, but the Senators netminder will have to be razor-sharp when he does return to the lineup this weekend. He was 6-1-3 in January and had a save percentage of .917 for the month as the Senators crawled back into the playoff race. But if Ottawa wants to cement a playoff berth, they will likely need their No.1 goalie to play at least 17 of the final 23 games and come out with about 12 or 13 wins. Anderson has shown in the past that he can get hot and carry this team and they will need that type of goaltending from him down the stretch. 8. Can Turris and MacArthur re-create their magic? Kyle Turris and Clarke MacArthur have been the Senators dynamic duo this season, but their production slowed down just before the Olympic break. MacArthur collected just one assist in his last seven games and that forced Paul MacLean to shuffle up their line a little bit. He is keeping Turris and MacArthur together, but he has moved Bobby Ryan off to another line and brought in Erik Condra to play on the wing. 9. Can Bobby Ryan find his scoring touch again? Bobby Ryan still has a team-leading 21 goals, but the winger has been moved away from his regular linemates and has struggled for the past few weeks. Ryan has just five goals in his last 24 games and that pace would make him only a 17-goal scorer over the course of a full season. Ryan may have been battling some sort of undisclosed injury and was even given some time off by MacLean after the Olympic break ended. If he can return to his form from the start of the season - when he scored nine goals in the first 16 games - the Senators will not be so worried about their offensive production. 10. Could Curtis Lazar see any NHL action this season? No player within the Senators organization has seen their stock rise as much as Curtis Lazar in the past few months. Had it not been for an injury in training camp, the teenager could have pushed for an NHL roster spot to start the season in Ottawa. But he is receiving rave reviews for his play with Edmonton in the WHL and is being talked about as one of the most NHL-ready players in the world right now. However, its doubtful that we will see Lazar in a Senators jersey until next fall. His Oil Kings could be primed for a deep run in the playoffs and the Senators would love to see him gain experience at that level before making the jump to the NHL. The practice, the teams fifth organized team activity session, was the first Milliner has missed this off-season after experiencing symptoms earlier in the week. "Its just precautionary," Milliner said. "I feel fine." Milliner, in his second season, had a rough start to his rookie year while dealing with hamstring issues early. He is expected to take over this season for Antonio Cromartie as the teams No. 1 cornerback, making this latest injury — however minor — cause at least some concern for the Jets. "He has to understand that hes got to be in extraordinary shape," coach Rex Ryan said. "His challenge will be to be in world-class shape because weve got to have you out there. He needs to be out there and he needs to get work, because thats how hes going get better." Ryan said Milliner, the No. 9 overall pick last year, had been having a good off-season before this setback. The coach was encouraged by Milliners progress last season, particularly in the final month. "You saw it as the year went on last year, he got better because of the work on the practice field and in the classroom," Ryan said. "He was taking off from there, and you dont want to see this happen. Hes got to step it up, because I think hes got all the talent in the world." Milliner, who stood on the sideline during team drills, acknowledged that theres a bit of frrustration not being able to participate.dddddddddddd "It bothers me because I want to be out there on the field with my teammates getting better during OTAs," he said. "In another way, its fine because I know (Im not) injured or hurt that bad." Wide receiver Eric Decker also was among those who did not participate. He is in Nashville with wife and recording artist Jessie James for the CMT Music Awards, at which they will be presenters. Ryan had no issue with the teams top receiver not being at the voluntary workouts. "Well, speaking as a married guy, (I) absolutely recommend that you would go to that," a smiling Ryan said. "So that would be recommended, I think. You know, you ask for their support, you need to support them, too." Meanwhile, running back Mike Goodson, coming off a knee injury and facing legal troubles, has yet to show for any of the teams OTAs. Ryan again stressed that the practice sessions are voluntary, but added: "He volunteered not to be here, and Ill volunteer to not answer the question." Goodson roster status is in serious doubt, aside from facing weapons charges. The Jets also have Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, Bilal Powell, Alex Green and Daryl Richardson at the position. And, the team isnt quite certain how much Goodson has been able to do in his rehabilitation from the injury. "Im not going to speculate because hes not here and I dont know where he is," Ryan said about Goodsons rehab. "We havent seen him, so I cant answer that question." NEW YORK, N.Y. - The presentation on domestic violence given to NFL owners on Wednesday included a video by a former player appealing for recognition and action.Joe Ehrmann, a defensive tackle for 10 pro seasons (1973-82), beseeches viewers to imagine what it would be like to see a loved one being subjected to abuse. He then urges intervention to curb such behaviour.Think about the role you have to raise up a generation of men that are going to have the clarity, have the moral courage to call out other men, Ehrmann says. The video is part of a 40-minute presentation put together by the league with the help of a group of outside advisers. The goal is to educate everyone in the NFL about the dangers of spousal abuse, child abuse, sexual assault and other domestic violence topics. It was very thorough, it was good, Steelers President Art Rooney said.Deana Garner, the leagues director of player engagement and education, said the educational program being implemented will examine workplace policy, disciplinary considerations and increasing understanding of the prevalence in society of these issues and how it impacts the NFL.So many people dont understand how complicated domestic violence is, Garner said. This is a unique crime committed across all demographics.Garner was encouraged by the reaction and input the presentation received from the owners. They were very engaged, she said. They recognized the importance of this initial education program and that it will set a standard. In a memo to owners this week, Commissioner Roger Goodell outlined how the NFL will re-examine its personal conduct policy. These are the first league meetings since Goodell admitted he was wrong in giving Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice only a two-game suspension for punching his then-fiancee in an elevator. Following a torrent of criticism, Goodell announced stiffer penalties for future domestic violence cases. After video of the punch was released, the Ravens cut Rice and Goodell suspended him indefinitely. Rice has since appealed the suspension.Other abuse cases involving Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson, Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer and Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy also have been made public. All three are on an exempt list, suspended but still being paid. The goal of the NFL educational program of which the video is a part is to create a better understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. It will concentrate on explaining the impact on victims, families and perpetrators; how to avoid becoming a perpetrator or a silent bystander; and how to intervene.Garner said the program will be implemented immediately, with visits to several teams in October and to every team by the end of the season. Owners, team executives, coaches, players and league personnel also will receive instruction. The owners were particularly eager to have the educational sessions scheduled for their teams, Garner added.Men play a critical role in reducing domestic violence by being active in interventions, Garner said. Step in. Speak out. Have thoughtful conversations.Thats exactly what is stressed in the video by Ehrmann, who runs an organization called Coach For America, and has been one of the speakers who visits NFL teams during what the league calls professional development sessions.Lisa Friel, vice-president of the Sexual Misconduct Consulting & Investigations division for T&M Protection Resources, is one of the advisers helping the NFL develop and carry out the educational program. She expected laser-focused attention from the owners on Wednesday a€” and she saw just that.It is important with this kind of education to start at the top and have it filter down, Friel said. From the owner to the guy in the locker room who washes uniforms. She also anticipates long-term benefits beyond team and league organizations.A lot of NFL athletes have been leaders throughout their lives, he said. We can tap into that leadership role ... and it can help empower others.Rita Smith, another adviser to the league on domestic violence, has had conversations with the NFL since 1998 about such educational programs. She noted that many owners asked about how to make sure everyone in our clubs organization has access to educational courses.Their capacity to influence the dialogue being said inside football a€” at the youth and high school, college and professional level a€” is pretty huge, said Smith, the former executive director of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Theres also the trickle down to the fans, family members and the sponsors. Its hard to measure the impact this could have.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Randy Moss Vikings Jersey . Choice hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning after Darvish blew a four-run lead and the Rangers snapped Clevelands six-game winning streak with a 6-4 victory over the Indians on Friday night. The decisive shot from Choice came after his RBI single in a four-run second. A night earlier, he homered to give the Rangers another big early lead they couldnt hold before going on to beat Baltimore. "I feel like I started out kind of passive at the plate, trying to feel guys out," said Choice, who is getting his first extensive time in the big leagues after an off-season trade brought him from Oakland. "And lately Ive tried to be more aggressive and be not so picky at the plate." Choice went the opposite way just over the right field wall against Marc Rzepczynski (0-2) with two outs for a solo homer. The shot made a winner of Darvish (6-2) after the Japanese ace gave up a season-high nine hits in seven innings. Texas reliever Jason Frasor got a nifty double play from Elvis Andrus in a scoreless eighth, and closer Joakim Soria had two strikeouts in the ninth for his 13th save. Lonnie Chisenhall and Asdrubal Cabrera homered off Darvish to wipe out a 4-0 deficit, but the Indians followed a 6-0 homestand by starting a 10-game trip with their fifth straight road loss. They have the worst record in the majors away from home at 9-20. Chisenhall hit the first three-run homer Darvish has allowed in his three big league seasons, a shot off the foul pole in right field in the third inning. The Indians pulled even an inning later on a solo shot to right by Cabrera, who had three hits. "When youre going against a guy like him who never gives in, his best stuff every night, the best stuff in the league, its a good feeling to answer back real quick and hhes not able to get comfortable," Chisenhall said.dddddddddddd Trevor Bauer had retired 13 of the last 15 Rangers he faced without allowing a hit when Rzepczynski came on to face the left-handed Leonys Martin and struck him out. But Choice put the Rangers ahead on the next pitch. Rzepczynski "was just trying to get ahead like he does and sink it," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. "It just caught too much of the plate." Cleveland had a good chance to take the lead in the sixth after singles from Yan Gomes, his third of the game, and Carlos Santana. But Darvish got Mike Aviles and Michael Bourn on called strikes and Cabrera on a weak grounder back to him. Darvish had eight strikeouts, and three of the four against Bourn. "I think the strike zone was a little bit smaller today so I had to be creative," Darvish said. "So I started throwing cut fastballs and sliders to throw the other hitters off." Bauer had all six of his strikeouts after giving up a two-run homer to Rougned Odor into the upper deck in right field in the second. "He pitched behind a lot in the count to a lot of dangerous hitters, but he still competed," Francona said. NOTES: An eighth-inning single gave Andrus a hit in all 38 games of his career against Cleveland. It ties the second-longest streak for a player against the same opponent going back to 1914, according to STATS. Vladimir Guerrero had a 44-game streak for the Los Angeles Angels against Texas from 2004 to 2006. Bostons Jacoby Ellsbury had a 38-game streak against Baltimore from 2009 to 2012. Andrus streak started with his major league debut on April 6, 2009. ... Clevelands David Murphy was 0 for 3 with a walk in his first game in Texas since leaving as a free agent. He spent six-plus seasons with the Rangers, including both of the franchises World Series years in 2010 and 2011. With an overall record of 37-39, including 9-6 last week, TSN football analyst Chris Schultz is back with his Week 6 selections in the NFL in Risky Business. Indianapolis (-2.5) at Houston The last four out of five Thursday night games have been dominated by the home team. No doubt that is a consistency worth being respected. Still, Andrew Luck had a four-turnover game and still beat Baltimore 20-13. And the Colts defence is improving, allowing only 17, 17 and 13 points. Arian Foster is back for the Texans and that fact helps Ryan Fitzpatrick out immensely. This is the game where the injury absence of Jadeveon Clowney could have made a difference. Even though it is on the road I cant go against the luck and ability of Andrew Luck. Can you imagine the second career contract waiting for Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson? Colts. Pittsburgh at Cleveland (-2) The strengths of the Steelers are the no-huddle offence run by Ben Roethlisberger, running back LeVeon Bell and receiver Antonio Brown. The weakness is the injury absence of cornerback Ike Taylor, and linebackers Jarvis Jones and Ryan Shazier. Cleveland has strengths of come from behind ability and Brian Hoyer, who has suppressed any and all talk about Johnny Manziel. The weakness is not playing well to begin games and in Week 1 they fell behind 27-3 to this same Steeler team. Yet I wonder if the Browns are improving and the Steelers only surviving. Browns. New England (-3) at Buffalo This will be fun. The Patriots opened the Cincinnati game by running play after play right at the interior heart of the Bengals and made a toughness statement and won the line of scrimmage. They may not be so successful this week as the Bills run defence after five games is No. 1 in the NFL allowing only 71 yards per game. Kyle Orton played well last week but with two tight ends back in Rob Gronkowski and newly acquired Tim Wright (in the Logan Mankins trade) I like the Patriots chances to continue their success moving the ball that they established last Sunday. Brady is an astonishing 22-2 against the Buffalo Bills. Patriots. Carolina at Cincinnati (-7) Cincinnati is a much better team at home and were humbled last week against New England 43-17. Before the 43 points the Bengal defence had allowed a high of 16 points so I expect a focused Bengal team at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday afternoon. On the opposite side Carolina on defence has allowed more than one touchdown pass in four of five games this year. Thats significant in that last year they only allowed multiple touchdown passes once. Sometimes its when you play a team, not who you play. The Bengals were humbled last week, while Carolina won even though Matt Forte ripped em. So can Giovani Bernard. Bengals. Jacksonville at Tennessee (-6) I guess the best thing to focus on in Jaguar football is that they only allowed 17 points against Pittsburgh. Thats important in that the previous four games it had been 33 or more. Not sure who is going to be at quarterback for Tennessee, could be sixth-round pick Zack Mettenberger out of LSU. The Jaguars are 0-5 and the pressure is on. Tennessee is 1-4 and if they dont turn it around soon the playoff dream becomes a nightmare. Different type of pressure both ways. Jaguars. Green Bay (-3.5) at Miami Both teams have time advantages in preparation for this game. Packers are coming off the Thursday night game and Miami the bye week. The Packers have outscored opponents 80-27 in the last two weeks with wins at Chicago and home to Minnesota. And those are divisional games. If the Packer offensive tackles have a good pass blocking day against the Dolphin defensive ends this could be a repeat of previous success for Green Bay. In what is the amazing statistic of the week, Aaron Rodgers has seven touchdown passes and only 11 incomplete passes over the last two weeks. And in October Rodgers plays his best football. 56-13 is the won-lost ratio with 20 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Joe Philbin knows Rodgers well as he coached him not so long ago in Green Bay. But when Rodgers gets time he will produce, and if pocket time is an issue he can roll out and still produce. Packers. Detroit (-2) at Minnesota Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush are battling injuries while Teddy Bridgewater should be over his. Mike Zimmer as a head coach will not let the 42-10 loss to Green Bay from last week pass without learning and improving. On the road Detroit lost in Carolina and won by seven against the Jets. Now they go to Minnesota and TFC Bank Stadium, not the Metrodome of years past. This one is a risky pick but that was not the Vikings of earlier this season, I anticipate a much more intense performance back home against Detroit. Minnesota. Denver (-8) at NY Jets The Broncos are going to score points but how many can the Jets possibly score? To get shut out 31-0 says a lot on how inefficient the Jets are on offence, not only Geno Smith but Michael Vick too. Last week Peyton Manning threw for a career-high 479 yards, just passing. And that was against Arizona cornerbacks Patrick Peterson and Antonio Cromartie. Denver is going to score points. Denver. Baltimore (-3) at Tampa Bay The only game the Bucs have won was in Pittsburgh where the Steelers imploded late and Mike Glennon hit Vincent Jackson to win under a minute to go. The Ravens are coming off their worst game of the year. They went 1-for-11 on third down and were dominated in time of possession as the Colts had the ball for 39 minutes. Now is the time for Joe Flacco to shine. Coming off a loss and back on the road this one may be very close. I can see the Bucs losing two in a row, they are evolving and developing. I just cant see the Ravens doing the same. They must win their division. Ravens. San Diego (-7) at Oakland Tony Sparano will be the eighth head coach since 2003 for the Oakland Raiders. Now whenever there is a head coaching move made in-season the team usually responds well. But they are playing a 4-1 Chargers team whose only loss was by one in Arizona in Week 1. Philip Rivers is thriving again with Mike McCoy as a head coach and Frank Reich as his offensive coordinator. And Brandon Oliver has stepped in at running back, looking like Darrin Sproles, and producing 182 total yards against the Jets. If Donald Brown cant play Oliver may start as Danny Woodhead and Ryan Matthews are previous backs who cant go. I think this would be the upset of the year if Derek Carr beats Rivers. With a 12-to-2 touchdown to interception ratio Rivers should match what Ryan Tannehill did with his 38 points in London on the Raiders. Some say the Raiders are the 32nd-best team in a 32-team league. The Chargers are currently a top-five club. Chargers. Chicago at Atlanta (-3) This is a really interesting one because of all the wide receiver talent everywhere. Atlanta has Julio Jones and Roddy White. Chicago has Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. At running back, proven Matt Forte and surprise performer Antone Smith in Atlanta. The Bears do have a tight end advantage with Martellus Bennett but the Falcons play their best in the Georgia Dome. If it becomes a touchdown for touchdown game, give me Matt Ryan for one extra touchdown. Falcons. Washington at Arizona (-3.5) Known and unknown at quarterback for Arizona. The known is that Carson Palmer is out. The unknown is the status of Drew Stanton due to concussion. The other known is that Logan Thomas is not ready to play as a fourth-round draft pick from Virginia Tech. I though Kirk Cousins redeemed himself in the loss to a good Seattle team 27-17. But there was a lot of tension that some Washington players took the loss too lightly afterwards in the post-game locker room interaction. Interesting subject. The NFL precautionary measures regarding concussions are pretty intense and if he was truly knocked out in the Denver game then you will not see Stanton against Washington. In an upset...Washington. Dallas at Seattle (-8) Best game of Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys are simply a better line of scrimmage team on offence. Its reflected in the success of DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant but third down is a productive moment. On offence 55 per cent of the time third down becomes first down and on defence only 39 percent of the time does an opponent make the successful transition. For Seattle Russell Wilson and his success as a runner changes everything in defending the Seahawks offence. It was the only reason for the 27-17 win at Washington. You can physically beat Seattle. San Diego proved that in Week 2. Yes, Wilson has only lost one game in his Seahawks career at home and with Percy Harvin it may be a while until number two. But for Harvin, Dallas has Bryant for Marshawn Lynch while Dallas has Murray. And as elusive as Wilson is, Romo can move in a similar way, not downfield, but in the pocket. Dallas. NY Giants at Philadelphia (-2.5) The Philadelphia Eagles have scored touchdowns in seven different ways. Rushing and passing, kickoff return and punt return, fumble return, interception return and blocked punt return. They are getting contributions from everyone but when do these unusually unpredictable moments end? The Eagles are winning in an oddball way. For the Giants coming off the Thursday night dominant win over Washington confidence is high. And it should be. They are averaging 35 points a game and DeMeco Ryans is going to be a game day decision for the Eagles and Michael Kendricks is a possible injury issue as well. Andre Williams is key - as a probable starter as a rookie can he produce? But another rookie Odell Beckham is also key as a receiver. Giants. San Francisco (-3) at St. Louis Home underdog so here we go. The 49ers have yet to score a touchdown in the fourth quarter this season so far, definitely a bit of a surprise. Austin Davis for St Louis is completing 67 per cent of his passes, again a bit of surprise. Every game this year has been a struggle - win or lose - and now on the road a struggle may happen again Monday night for the 49ers. St. Louis may have lost to Philadelphia 34-28 but overcame a major deficit to make it a game. Rams may only be 1-3 but should make it tough for San Francisco to win on the road and in the division. Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - James Harden scored Houstons final 12 points of the game, leading the Rockets to a 91-86 victory over the New York Knicks. Harden went 7-of-12 from beyond the arc and ended with 36 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Rockets, who have won 10 straight against the Knicks. Donatas Motiejunas added 13 points and eight boards for Houston, which has won two in a row overall. Trevor Ariza tallied 10 points and three steals. WINNIPEG -- B.C.s Adam Bighill had the game of his life Friday as he helped force at least three turnovers on the way to a 53-17 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and lock down a playoff spot for the Lions. "Thats probably stats-wise one of the most impressive professional games Ive ever played," he said. "Its not something you go out there and try to do. You just go out there and play every down and what happens happens." The first quarter was a comedy of errors for the Bombers, who opened with a turnover as Will Ford bobbled a lateral from quarterback Max Hall on his first play of the game. Bighill, a linebacker, snatched it up in the scramble and took it 30 yards for the Lions first touchdown. One way or another, the Lions defence accounted for most of their points, with three touchdowns in the first half alone. "The defence putting up points like that, it doesnt come very often," said Bighill. That first was just one of seven turnovers for the Bombers (2-11), who had two touchdowns from Clarence Denmark and a field goal from Sandro DeAngelis. Bighill, Nick Moore, Dante Marsh, Cord Parks, Andrew Harris and quarterback Thomas DeMarco had touchdowns for the Lions (9-4). Paul McCallum added three field goals and a couple of singles. DeMarco said the big thing is locking up the playoff spot. "We played a tremendous game, offence, defence and special teams," said the backup, after just his second start and second win since replacing an injured Travis Lulay. "Were heading in the right direction and its just one more win to where we want to go." It was unpleasant all around for the Bombers and their fans, many of whom left early on a cool night with sporadic showers. Buck Pierce got the biggest cheer of the night when he took over from DeMarco in the third quarter. Winnipeg traded Pierce to B.C. at mid-season. Joey Elliott, cut by the Bombers as well before the season started, also saw a little action late in the game for the Lions. The Bombers poor play hasnt helped but a cool night and showers also left the stands emptier than they have been all season. Winnipegs defence was far more effective than the Bombers offence and defensive back Brandon Stewart was clearly frustrated. "We did everything that we could do. We gave them multiple chances on offence," he said. "Defensively we could do nothing but watch it. Were on the sidelines. We cant run off the sidelines and go out and tackle people." Coach Tim Burke said the defence played hard. "They were getting banged up but they hung in there." But he had nothing good to say about his offence. "It was pathetic." The Bombers have maintained at least a veneer of optimism in the CFL East where they have maintained a mathematical chance of making the playoffs. But that too slipped Friday night. "You keep playing for something," said veteran offensive lineman Glenn January. "If the playoff picture is out of the question now youve got to play for your jobs, youve got to play for your paycheque, youve got to play for your family back home watching you, youve got to play for the name on the back of your jersey." Things looked up briefly in the first quarter for the Bombers after Hall executed a four-play 54-yard drive and connected with Denmark to tie it less than three minutes later. But a coverage gap let DeMarco cap his own short drive with a throw to a wide-open Moore, who strolled into the end zone. The Bombers werent done with first-quarter gaffes. Ford and Denmark were back to take the kick and basically just watched McCallums 80-yarder bounce between them for a single. Hall was intercepted in the second quarter on his own 28-yard line, which set up McCallums 34-yard field goal at 9:24 to make it 18-7. A little over five minutes later Hall was closing in on the B.C. goal line when he was intercepted again and Dante Marsh returned it 79 yards for another touchdown. Another single on a 50-yard punt from McCallum made it 26-7 and then Akeem Foster fumbled a pass from Hall and set up Parks 45-yard touchdown return. With about a minute left in the first half, though, Hall connected with Denmark again with a 35-yarder to make it 33-14. Jason Boltus came in for Hall in the second half and on his first play threw an interception that led to DeMarcos one-yard run for B.C.s second offensive touchdown. Harris made it 47-14 with a 16-yard run just before the third quarter ended. Boltus fumbled on a throw on his own 11-yard line to set up McCallums 12-yard field goal. DeAngelis kicked a 30-yard field goal with 5:49 left to make it 50-17 but McCallum added another three points for the Lions as well with about a minute and a half left. GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany - With an overwhelming offensive display, Real Madrid became the first road team to score six goals in a knockout-stage game of the Champions League and put itself in position for its fourth straight trip to the quarterfinals. Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema scored two goals each Wednesday night in a 6-1 rout of Schalke in the first leg of their second-round matchup. "We played a very, very good match," Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "We got well into the match, scored two early goals and that opened the game and left us able to counter and to use the speed of our players." In the nights other game, Aurelien Chedjous goal off Wesley Sneijders corner kick in the 64th minute gave Galatasaray a 1-1 tie against visiting Chelsea, which had gone ahead when Fernando Torres scored in the ninth minute. Ronaldos two goals gave him 11 in the Champions League this season and 34 in 34 games in all competitions. With 61 Champions League goals in his career, Ronaldo moved one ahead of Ruud Van Nistelrooy for third place, trailing only Raul Gonzalez (71) and Lionel Messi (66). Real extended its unbeaten streak to 27 games, seven shy of the club record set in 1988-89. Second legs of the total-goals series are March 18. Los Blancos, who had 58 per cent possession and outshot the hosts 21-10, are seeking their record 10th title in Europes top club competition following semifinal elimination in each of the last three seasons. Madrid had won only once in its previous 25 matches in Germany, 3-2 at Bayer Leverkusen in 2000. "Real and Bayern are the two best teams in the world," Schalke coach Jens Keller said, referring to the runaway Bundesliga leader and defending Champions League titlist. Benzema scored in the 13th and 57th minutes, while Bale had goals in the 21st and 69th minutes. Ronaldo scored in the 52nd and 89th. With Real ahead 1-0, goalkeeper Iker Casillas made a stunning reflex save on Julian Draxlers shot from three yards following a deflected cross from Jefferson Farfan. "It was an incredible save, maybe the crucial moment of the match," Ancelotti said. Schalkes Klaas-Jan Huntelaar had the most spectacular goal on a volley in the fourth minute of stoppage time. "The difference in class was clear," Draxler said. "We can forget about the second leg and concentrate on the Bundesliga." In Istanbul, Torres scored following Cezar Azpilicuetas cutback pass. "I wouldnt want to say thats a great result. We all now know what a strong team they are," Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard said. "Little bit disappointed today really at halftime it wasnt more than one nil up. I think we played very well first half, we controlled it. They didnt have any chances and we have about four or five very good counterattacks, and we didnt make more of them." Didier Drogba, whose penalty kick won the 2012 title for Chelsea, was playing against his former team. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is trying to win a Champions League title with a third team following victories with Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010. "They have very powerful strikers and we are going to have a difficult time at Stamford Bridge — thats for sure," Mourinho said. Lonnie Chisenhall Jersey . Danny Salazar Jersey .3 million qualifying offer to outfielder Michael Cuddyer on Monday.Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Not even Nostradamus couldve foretold that TCU would begin 13-0. Or prognosticate that Temple would beat Kansas by 25. Or forecast that Old Dominion would be in the top 25 for the first time after winning just five games two years ago. Or even predict that Notre Dame, Maryland, West Virginia, Seton Hall and Washington would all return to the national landscape. The Big 12 never had six teams ranked in the top 25 until last week. The Horned Frogs werent one of them, but theyve been the conferences most surprising squad. They may not make it into the NCAA Tournament come March, but an appearance in any of the postseason tournaments would make this season successful. Granted, TCU had a non-conference schedule ranked in the 300s, doesnt really own a signature win and has begun 0-3 in the Big 12. But this is a school that failed to win a conference game a year ago and has posted just two since joining the Big 12 in 2012. The Horned Frogs solid start had them ranked in the top 25 for the first time since the 1998-99 season. They raced off to their best start in the programs 106-year history and have already surpassed last years win total. The Owls have been flying high since the second-semester acquisitions of Jesse Morgan and Devin Coleman, evidenced by a 77-52 shellacking of Kansas on Dec. 22. Theyve greatly improved their 3-point shooting, 35.7 percent (60-of-168), since the duo joined the fray. Temple had shot just 24.5 percent (45-of-184) prior to their arrival. You have to take the good and the bad with streaky- shooting Morgan, however. He was 0-of-13 from beyond the arc in the Owls 63-56 loss to Tulsa on Saturday. The biggest difference between this year and last has been the Owls much- improved defense. Temple allowed opponents to score 78.1 points per game and shoot 47.4 percent from the floor last season, but have surrendered just 61.8 points while combatants are connecting on just 38.2 percent of attempts during this campaign. Old Dominion already has four top-100 wins, VCU, LSU, Georgia State and Charlotte, which might be enough for an at-large bid come March. This depends on how the Monarchs finish in Conference USA or if they slip up in the conference tournament. Jeff Jones took over Old Dominion a year after it won five games and his team notched 18 victories. This season, the Monarchs got off to their best start in school history, although they suffered a 72-65 defeat at Western Kentucky on Saturday. Notre Dames ACC debut last season was a bust. The Irish (15-17) finished 11th in the conference and endured their first losing season since 1998-99. One of the main reasons for their futility was the suspension of Jerian Grant, who was lost after 12 games due to an academic issue. Notre Dame was 8-4 with him and just 7-13 without their star. This season, like TCU, Notre Dame also had a weak non-conference strength of schedule (299), but last Mondays road win at North Carolina gave it some credibility. And so much for coach Mike Breys Burn offense; the only thing the Irish are burning are the nets. They are scoring 83.3 points per game, lead the country in field-goal percentage (53.5) and are among the nations leaders in 3-point field goal percentage (40.7). Maryland shocked many when it took down Iowa State in the CBE Classic title game on Nov. 25, but what mightve been even more stunning was its continued success despite the loss of Dez Wells. The Terrapins went 6-1 during his absence -- the lone defeat to unbeaten Virginia on Dec. 3 -- after he brokee his wrist in that victory over the Cyclones.dddddddddddd They can thank freshman Melo Trimble for that. Trimble, who was Marylands first McDonalds All-American since Mike Jones in 2003, is currently leading the team in scoring with 16.3 points per game. The Terps havent made the past four NCAA Tournaments, their longest drought since 1989-93, but that should change this year. Even with star guard Juwan Staten on the roster, nobody expected much from West Virginia this season in a loaded Big 12. But so far the Mountaineers have just two blemishes on their resume, home losses to LSU on Dec. 4 and Iowa State Saturday. They have wins over Connecticut, NC State and Wofford. Coach Bob Huggins full-court pressure has paid huge dividends this season. The Mountaineers are currently forcing more turnovers than any team in the country (22.3). The momentum of Sterling Gibbs game-winning shot in Seton Halls Big East Tournament first round upset win over Villanova has carried over into this season. The emergence of heralded recruit Isaiah Whitehead has also been a huge factor. Gibbs leads the team in scoring (16.0 ppg) and assists (3.9 apg), while Whitehead is second in both categories (11.9 ppg, 3.4 apg). The Pirates made it into the top 25 last week after garnering a pair of upset home triumphs over then-No. 15 St. Johns and then-No. 6 Villanova, then lost at Xavier before a one-point win at Creighton. Washingtons suffocating defense and shot-blocking ability had the Huskies in the top 25 prior to a poor early showing in Pac-12 play. Their 11-0 start matched the best during Lorenzo Romars tenure as coach. The Huskies also began 11-0 during the 2005-06 campaign. Opponents are scoring just 60.9 points per game and shooting 34.9 percent from the field. The shot-swatting presence of seven-foot Fresno State transfer Robert Upshaw has made it tough for others to get a good look because of his ability to alter shots at the rim. He leads the country with 4.4 blocks per game. All of these teams have put themselves in position for possible NCAA Tournament berths come March -- besides TCU -- as long as none of them free fall in conference. CHICAGO -- Anthony Rizzo went deep in the third inning and Starlin Castro connected in the fourth. Mike Olt broke it open with another big swing in the eighth. It was a powerful end to a difficult city series for the Chicago Cubs. Rizzo, Castro and Olt homered, and the Cubs stopped a four-game slide with a 12-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night. "We had some good at-bats, some big at-bats in some key situations," rookie manager Rick Renteria said, "and then we got some thump, got some balls hit well." Rizzo had three hits and scored three times as the Cubs salvaged the finale of the four-game set against their crosstown rivals. Olt, Ryan Kalish, Nate Schierholtz and Junior Lake had two hits apiece in a game that took 4 hours, 7 minutes. The Cubs put it away with five runs in the eighth, highlighted by Olts first career grand slam. Maikel Cleto also hit Welington Castillo with a bases-loaded pitch, ending the White Sox bullpens shutout streak at 23 1-3 innings. Olt also batted with the bases loaded in the third and popped out to shortstop. "I was upset with myself because with less than two outs Ive got to at least get someone in, move someone over," he said. "Ive got to do my job. To get another chance late in the game and come through like that definitely helped." The Cubs finished with 15 hits after managing just five runs and 12 hits in the first three games against the White Sox. "We did more damage than them today," Rizzo said. Alexei Ramirez had four singles for the White Sox, who had won four in a row. Conor Gillaspie went 2 for 4 with a walk in his first action since he was activated from the disabled list Wednesday after being sidelined with a bruised left hand. The White Sox got Adam Dunn back after he missed a game due to a bruised right calf, but rookie slugger Jose Abreu was hampered by a left ankle injury. Abreu, who is off to a terrific start with 12 homers and 35 RBIs, hobbled down the line each time he put the ball in play. "He just seemed like he was limping a little bit tonight, thats why in the end there I (took) him out," said manager Robin Ventura, who had Marcus Semien hit for Abreu in the ninth. "But he says hes fine." Abreu did not speak with the media after the game. The Cubs jumped on Scott Carroll (1-2) for four runs in the third, sending 10 batters to the plate. Luis Valbuena singled in Kalish before Rizzo hit a drive to centre for his seventh homer. Lake added a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-2. Rizzo also walked and scored when Castro connected in the fourth. Castro went 1 for 15 with two walks during the Cubs losing streak. Carroll departed after Olt and Lake started the fifth with consecutive singles. The 29-year-old rookie was charged with 11 hits and six runs after he pitched well in each of his first two major league starts. "It was just a situation where I didnt have my best stuff tonight," Carroll said. "I left a few pitches up when I obviously didnt have the ability to do so. Kind of just fighting it the whole time." The White Sox got two runs back in the fourth on RBI singles by Gillaspie and Tyler Flowers. But five Cubs relievers combined for five innings of one-run ball after Jake Arrietas shaky outing. Brian Schlitter (2-0) got five outs for the win. Arrieta allowed four runs, three earned, and nine hits in four innings. He pitched 5 1-3 scoreless innings in a no-decision against St. Louis on Saturday in his first start of the season. NOTES: White Sox ace Chris Sale (left arm) felt fine after throwing a bullpen session Wednesday, and Ventura said the left-hander probably will throw again on Saturday. "Hes progressing. He doesnt feel anything," Ventura said. "In talking to him, he says everything feels good." Ventura said he thinks the team will have a better idea this weekend about a rehab schedule for Sale. ... Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said Jeff Samardzijas 126 pitches on Monday night "is just a story that should probably die." He said the front office, Renteria and Samardzija are all on the same page. ... The Cubs send RHP Jason Hammel (4-1, 2.43 ERA) to the mound when they open a weekend series at Atlanta on Friday night. RHP Julio Teheran (2-2, 1.80 ERA) is slated to pitch for the Braves. J.A. Happ Jersey . -- Jacksonville Jaguars rookie receiver Marqise Lee has agreed to terms on a four-year contract worth more than $5 million. Randal Grichuk Jersey . The Blue Jays lost to the New York Yankees 3-1 Tuesday night, their seventh defeat in 10 games. Rasmus was put on the 15-day DL on May 15 because of a sore right hamstring. Hes hitting .222 with nine home runs and 19 RBIs. http://www.authenticbluejayspro.com/blue...stroman-jersey/. Miralem Pjanic dribbled through the defence to score an extraordinary goal in the 43rd minute at the Stadio Olimpico and Gervinho added another from a rebound in the 65th for Romas ninth straight victory — ending Milans five-match winning streak. Roberto Osuna Jersey . Every once in awhile, it seems like life lets dreams become real - and that is a gift. Justin Smoak Jersey . The Bulls seem to be getting along fine without him. D.J. Augustin scored 27 points in a start for Kirk Hinrich and Taj Gibson matched a career high with 26 filling in for Carlos Boozer as the Bulls improved to 7-2 since trading the popular Deng with a 98-87 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.Sky Sports Rob Dorsett talks us through his time behind the scenes at Leicesters Premier League title celebrations. A three-tiered cake, all in blue. Two water melons, carved with the faces of Claudio Ranieri and Jamie Vardy. A stuffed fox, draped in a Leicester scarf. These are some of the more outlandish gifts that Ive seen delivered to the King Power Stadium in the last week, in recognition of the most unlikely Premier League Champions. A water melon with Claudio Ranieris face carved into it It has been a strange week. A bizarre season. Captain Wes Morgan reflected on just how surreal it has all been when we spoke at the clubs training ground last week, the day after Spurs drew at Chelsea and that famous party at Jamie Vardys house in Melton Mowbray. At that party, Morgan was seen lying on his back, being dragged along the kitchen floor by Marcin Wasilewski. Now, the morning after the night before, Morgan looked stunned. He didnt know what to say, on or off camera. A strange-looking Jamie Vardy appears on another water melon Rob, I cant believe it. Whod have thought it? When I reminded him that he would be the one lifting the Premier League trophy, he was silent for a moment. He then started laughing quietly.Ive known Morgan since he was 17, when he came through the academy at Nottingham Forest alongside the likes of Michael Dawson and Jermaine Jenas. Leicester captain Wes Morgan admitted he felt drained after lifting the Premier League trophy In truth, Dawson and Jenas were always seen as the more stellar talents at the City Ground, by academy staff and fans alike, but it is Morgan who has gone on to greatness: his character is stamped all over the Leicester City squad.Strength of mind and body, honesty, resilience, determination. Morgan is the leader on the pitch and in the dressing room. If you want a message to get through to the players, you go through Wes. If theres a squad get-together to be sorted, Wes will sort it. Wes Morgan and Claudio Ranieri lift the trophy amid ecstatic scenes at the King Power stadium Frank Clark was the Nottingham Forest chairman who sold Morgan to Leicester in January 2012.I dont think Wes was appreciated enough by anyone at Nottingham Forest, he told me.The club had allowed him to get into the last year of his contract and he would have walked away for free in the summer. So in the end, we did well to persuade Leicester to pay £1m for him.But I dont think anyone realised what a force, what a character Forest were losing. Claudio Ranieri reflected on Leicesters amazing season and says he wants the fans to keep dreaming Now, that force is standing alone on the side of the training pitch, clutching a bottle of water, speechless. Overcome with emotion. It was an amazing feeling at Leicesters training ground last Tuesday. The club had kept a dozen or more camera crews and scores of reporters outside - we were the only live crew to be invited in.I was so busy chatting to the players that Leicesters head of media, Anthony Herlihy, had to prompt me to do the big interview of the day.Dont you want to interview the manager? he asked. Claudio Ranieri had been waiting a few metres away for a couple of minutes, apparently. By that time, we had already done Danny Drinkwater live to Sky Sports Now, and Morgan too. Kasabian member and Leicester City fan Serge says there is not much more he could wish for after seeing his beloved Foxes win the Premier League title I had just grabbed a few words with Ranieri in a huge scrum at the main gate, where several Italian broadcasters were literally fighting with each other to get their camera near to Ranieris drivers-side window.I managed to get my microphone under his chin, but as his car was surrounded, my cameraman Chris Alcock could not get a clean shot. So he made the inspired decision to go in front of the bonnet - this served the dual purpose of providing a clean shot of Leicesters manager through the windscreen - and prevented him from driving away. Genius. We got a few answers from him - and so did the Italians - before he inched forward and forced his car through the gates and into the sanctuary. Andrea Bocelli sang Nessun Dorma to Claudio Ranieri and the Leicester fans before their game with Everton Moments later, Leicesters team chef, Gary Payne, arrived with a tray full of bacon sandwiches and coffee for us, as he has done so many times before.dddddddddddd It exemplifies the friendly, genuine way in which Leicester is run. It was Garys way of making sure we, at Sky, were made to feel part of the party. This time, though, it seemed only right we share with our Italian counterparts and the feast was gone in seconds. Now pitchside, Ranieri and I had all the time and space to chat freely. He was the same as ever: smiling, calm, charismatic - taking it all in his stride. Former Chelsea manager Gianluca Vialli insists fellow Italian Claudio Ranieri should be ranked as one of the best managers in the Premier League Yes, he admitted, this achievement had vindicated his own, deep-held belief that he would one day win a top division title. Yes, it was a special feeling. But, typically modest, he gave all the credit to his players. Those players were now in the middle of a training session, killing time while waiting for the clubs Thai owners to arrive in their personal helicopter so that they could start the official Premier League photoshoot. In truth, at this stage, the players were like kids playing on the local park. Nathan Dyer went in nets, while Vardy and Robert Huth rained shots at him. The diminutive Dyer then pulled off a brilliant flying save, high to his right, and went on a lap of honour before being tripped by Marc Albrighton and dived upon by his teammates. Leicesters vice chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha says there isnt any truth in reports the clubs owners are buying every player a new car We heard a low rumble overhead that announced the impending arrival of the owners, Vichai and Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha. The pitch had been cleared for the owners entourage to arrive, all smiles and glamour. As the group of 20 or so made their way to the lower pitch, Leicesters club photographer, Neil Plumb, was trying to organise the players into a group ready for the team photo. While he was doing so, Wasilewski and Jamie Vardy managed to nutmeg him three times with a water bottle. He never noticed, but the Sky Sports News pictures became something of a cult internet hit thereafter. Myths busted by Leicester We look at the myths Leicester have busted on their incredible Premier League-winning season As they unfurled the Champions banners, and started chanting, I was again live in the background, offering a commentary. The Thai entourage closed in, camera phones primed and ready, and I had to politely ask them to move slightly to the side so that our camera could still capture the moment. With a polite nod of the head, they moved a few feet to the left and we got some great shots. Those pictures inside Jamie Vardys front room, as the squad crowded together to watch the moment when they were guaranteed top spot. The players, led by Morgan, obviously, were determined to keep the party private. They wanted it to be an occasion for them, together, alone. Finally, they agreed to allow a single club camera in to film them, if the moment arrived as they hoped. The crowning of the champions Lifelong Leicester fan Jordan Halford reflects on the coronation of the champions When it did, and Eden Hazard scored the equaliser against Spurs, we needed to get the extraordinary images onto Monday Night Football as quickly as possible. The trouble was, I was outside the front of Vardys house, along with several hundred elated Leicester fans. The only solution was to get Leicesters cameraman who filmed them, Sam Chambers, to scale a low wall to the side of the property, and hand his camera over while two police officers gave us cover, just feet from the jubilant supporters. It is still a huge relief that we managed to do that, without the fans realising. Srivaddhanaprabha insists the club will just be taking it one step at a time next season After the players left the training ground, to head into town for a meal with the owners and staff, we headed to the stadium, in a journey that took 45 minutes instead of the usual 10.It was chaos. All car horns and flags, smiles and chants. I remember doing the most eclectic and unlikely live report at the King Power Stadium later that day. Again, the club allowed us exclusive access to go pitchside, while outside the worlds media had descended.I bumped into Kasabian bass player Chris Edwards, who was checking out the layout of the stadium before the band play there later this month. Just behind him was Leicester fan Mark Selby, who the night before had won his second World Snooker Championship. It was that sort of day. Leicesters perfect party Leicesters 3-1 win over Everton was the perfect way to celebrate their incredible title triumph Id already booked the de Montfort Gospel Choir to perform for us, but could not let this opportunity slip. So, we went live to Sky Sports News with a rock star, a World Snooker Champion and a gospel choir. It kind of worked. There have been so many wonderful moments that I have been lucky enough to experience this season, from being close to this story, and to Ranieri and his group of players.Seven years ago, the club was in League One. Now, they are the Premier League champions.Leicesters sensational season will live long in the memory. LONDON -- Jason Puncheon put his penalty-taking credentials to rest by slotting one for Crystal Palace to beat Stoke 1-0 on Saturday for their first win in the English Premier League since Boxing Day. Puncheons humbling miss in the 2-0 loss to Tottenham last weekend set off a war of words with former Palace manager Neil Warnock, who suggested he would never have let Puncheon take a spot kick. The dispute lingered, and Warnock threatened legal action before Palace manager Tony Pulis cooled things down by supporting Puncheon for future penalties. When the chance came in the 51st minute, Puncheon, on loan from Southampton, took his time and drove the ball past Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland. The end of Palaces three-match winless run lifted it out of the relegation zone, and kept Stoke winless for a fifth successive league match. Joc Pederson Jersey . -- Hee Young Park topped the leaderboard at 8 under Friday in the suspended second round of the Kingsmill Championship. Logan Forsythe Jersey . The 33-year-old Spaniard, who held the lead since the second round, turned in a solid final round that featured six birdies and two bogeys to finish on 22-under 266. The victory is Garcias first this year with his last win coming at the Johor Open, an Asian Tour event in Malaysia last December. http://www.baseballdodgersprostore.com/d...y-wills-jersey/. -- Washingtons Bradley Beal seemed to make every shot he took in setting a career high with 37 points. Chase Utley Jersey . As the Winnipeg Blue Bombers opened their main training camp Sunday, Kuale is one of the newcomers brought in to bolster a sagging defence that ranked overall where the Bombers finished 2013, in the CFL cellar with a league high 585 points against. Hyun-Jin Ryu Jersey . On Wednesday night, they showed that stellar defence and a little small ball can get the job done too. With pinch-runner Kevin Pillar aboard after Dioner Navarro opened the bottom of the ninth with a single, Anthony Gose dropped down an excellent bunt along the first-base line.ST. LOUIS -- Typically, a Sam Bradford rehab update in early June is not a major media event. Blame it on the other Sam on the St. Louis Rams roster. Attention was super-sized Thursday because of rookie defensive end Michael Sam. "I figured thats where you guys would be," Bradford joked after a workout. Sam, the first openly gay player drafted in the NFL, meets with reporters on Friday. The team is hoping the hubbub will die down eventually and Sam will be treated like any other seventh-round pick. "I think the media doesnt give athletes enough credit for just accepting players as they are," said wide receiver T.J. Moe, who was Sams teammate at Missouri. "They just assume its a tough-guy culture, and How are they possibly going to handle it? I think maybe its the other way around. How are the media handling it?" Bradford, the first overall pick in 2010, is more than five months removed from left knee surgery and said everything is on schedule. The quarterback got a scheduled day off to allow for bounce-back time and is expected to practice Friday. "To be honest, throughout the process Ive felt really good and felt better than what Id anticipated," Bradford said. "Even when youre healthy you have good days with your arm and bad days with your arm, and now its kind of the same thing with my knee." During the rehab, Bradford has added upper-body strength and believes he has a "little more pop" on his throws. "Moving around great," coach Jeff Fisher said. "Yeah, he does everything.dddddddddddd Hes doing all the drops and the footwork is really good." Rumours the Rams might draft Johnny Manziel were easy for Bradford to dismiss. He was kept in the loop by Fisher and general manager Les Snead during the off-season. "They made it very clear what their plan was," Bradford said. "They continue to make that clear." Neither Bradford nor Fisher believe the quarterback has anything extra to prove this season. The Rams drafted protection for Bradford, taking Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson with the second overall pick, and held onto guard Rodger Saffold. They added veteran wide receiver Kenny Britt to the mix, too, reuniting him with Fisher. Britt made a couple of nice catches and also was involved in a bit of a scuffle Thursday. "Right now Im actually taking this year as a rookie year and building my platform," Britt said. "Everything starts from scratch." Britt had little to say about a sexually explicit video posted to his Instagram account last month. "Thats something that touches home," he said. "Me and my wife have to deal with that. Were going to leave it at that." Notes: Fisher anticipates offensive tackle Jake Long, also rehabbing from knee surgery, will be ready to participate in the middle of training camp and was "on pace" to start the opener. Long was hurt at the end of the season and his operation was in January, about two months after Bradfords procedure. BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Ravens had scored three points in 27 minutes and trailed the unbeaten Houston Texans. Ray Rice was unavailable, the offence was struggling and the usually boisterous crowd was eerily quiet. The defending Super Bowl champs were in dire need of a game-changing play, and Daryl Smith was there to provide it. Smith stepped in front of tight end Owen Daniels, intercepted Matt Schaubs pass and took it 37 yards for a touchdown to propel the Ravens to a 30-9 victory Sunday. Less than two minutes after Smiths pivotal TD, Tandon Doss scored on an 82-yard punt return. And just like that, the Ravens (2-1) were on their way to a lopsided victory against one of the AFCs top teams. "Two huge plays by the defence and the special teams," coach John Harbaugh said. The Ravens (2-1) won despite playing without Rice for the first time since 2008. Watching from the sideline with a strained left hip flexor, the three-time Pro Bowl running back was replaced by Bernard Pierce, who ran for 65 yards and a touchdown. Baltimore got only four first downs and 65 yards of offence in the first half, yet went to the locker room with a 17-9 lead. "A guy like Daryl makes a huge play and turns the game entirely around," Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith said. Houston (2-1) led 6-3 before the interception return with 2:39 left in the first half. After a three-and-out by the Texans, Doss eluded several tacklers during his first career punt return for a touchdown. "Over a four-play sequence, we give them 14 points," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "Thats where the game turned, and we were playing catch-up all game long." Houston compiled only 107 yards of offence in getting shut out in the second half. After scoring seven touchdowns in their first two games, the Texans were limited to three field goals by Randy Bullock. Give much of the credit to the Ravens defence, which has not allowed a touchdown in eight quarters since a season-opening 49-27 defeat in Denver. With at least a half-dozen new faces, the unit remains a work in progress. But this was a significant step. "We do feel were as far along as we could possibly be with this group," Harbaugh said. "We havent given up the big plays." Schaub went 25 for 35 for 194 yards and an interception. He played much of the second half without wide receiver Andre Johnson, who bruised his shin. "I did not think he could run the way he needs to play, so we took him out," Kubiak said. Schaubs most lamentable throw was the one that Smith took the other way. "Poor decision on my part," Schaub said. "You got to be better in that situation, especially late in the half." Joe Flacco was 16 of 24 for 171 yards to help the Ravens avenge last years 43-13 blowout loss in Houston. The Texans fell to 0-4 in Baltimore, including a defeat in the 2011 post-season. Houston came in as a slight favourite, but the Ravens again proved formidable at home, where theyre 35-7 since the start of the 2008 season. The game featured the return of Ed Reed and Ray Lewis, who starred for years with Baltimore. Lewis was inducted into the Ravens Ring of Honor at halftime, and Reed made his debut with Houston at free safety after signing with the Texans as a free agent in March. Reed long has been part of great defensive performances by the Ravens. This time, he was on the opposite end. "Baltimore has a great defence," Reed said. "I told the guys coming into this game, defensively theyre going to know every move that youre making, everything that youre doing." Smith, Lewis replacement at middle linebacker, knew all about Schaubs tendency to look for his tight end in those situations. "It was something we saw on film during the week," he said. "We got pressure on the play and I jumped the route." It was his first interception return for a score. "Its like a dream; its hazy," he said. "I remember catching it and running as fast as I can." Notes: Ravens DT Terrence Cody sprained his knee in the first quarter and did not return. ... Ravens backup RB Shaun Draughn sprained his ankle. ... Houston was denied in its bid to go 3-0 for a second straight season. ... Smith became the 19th player in Ravens history to score on an INT return. DaShawn Hand Jersey .J. - Henrik Lundqvist has done more than set a couple of franchise records for the New York Rangers this week. Luke Willson Jersey . The defending champions’ roller coaster season included trading offensive star Percy Harvin in the midst of the team’s 3-3 start. That move that reportedly irked several Seahawk players, but one management saw necessary to save the team’s chemistry. http://www.shopdetroitlionsnfl.com/lions...d-black-jersey/. Though the 26-year-old said he was able to participate, coach Dwane Casey kept Johnson out as a precaution. Kerryon Johnson Lions Jersey . LOUIS -- Joe Thornton and the San Jose Sharks won the matchup of unbeaten teams. Frank Ragnow Jersey . Goins is the early favourite to win the starting job at second base. Pillar is an outsider to secure a role off the bench, which becomes an even more difficult spot to win if the number of back up jobs is reduced by one. That happens if the Blue Jays decide to start the season with an eight man bullpen.TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Lightning left wing Ryan Malone was charged Saturday with DUI and possession of cocaine after a traffic stop, police said. An officer saw Malones SUV strike a curb after making a left turn from the centre lane early Saturday, said Tampa Police Lt. Paul Lusczynski. After being pulled over, Malone got out of his vehicle, and the officer smelled alcohol on his breath, Lusczynski said. According to the police report, the officer also found 1.3 grams of cocaine in one of Malones pockets. Malone refused to take field sobriety tests, but a breath test given at the jail recorded blood alcohol levels of 0.112 and 0.116 per cent, Lusczynski said. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08. Malone was released from the Hillsborough County jail on US$2,500 bond. Jail records didnt show whether he had an attorney. Police impounded Malones SUV. Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman said Malone would not travel with the team for Tampa Bays final regular season game Sunday against the Washington Capitals.dddddddddddd He declined further comment. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly released a statement Saturday afternoon. "We are aware of the situation this morning involving Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Malone," Daly said. "Under the terms of the collectively bargained joint NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program, Mr. Malone is subject to mandatory evaluation and, if deemed necessary by the program doctors, treatment pursuant to the terms of that program. "His future playing status, both in the near term and during the playoffs, will be determined in accordance the terms of our SABH program." The Lightning are set to meet Montreal in the first round of the playoffs. Malone has 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) and 67 penalty minutes in 57 games this season. He has 370 points (179-191) in 641 career NHL regular-season games with the Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins. Mike Cammalleri may be staying with the Calgary Flames. Cammalleri confirmed on Tuesday that general manager Brian Burke had offered him a contract, while Burke announced earlier in the day that an offer had been made. LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky had no illusions of pulling off a miracle against top-ranked Alabama Saturday night. The young Wildcats simply wanted to compete and see what would happen. Their mission never got going and the result was a 48-7 loss to the Crimson Tide that the Wildcats found painful to endure besides the lopsided score. Kentucky quarterback Jalen Whitlow did not return after injuring his left leg while being sacked in the first-quarter. Coach Mark Stoops described it as a "pretty good" ankle sprain. Maxwell Smith came in and threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Javess Blue in the third quarter, but that just brought the Wildcats within 31-7 and provided the evenings only highlight. Kentucky (1-5, 0-3 Southeastern Conference) was left with a fourth straight loss overall and its fifth in a row to the Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0). The defeat also closed out the most grueling stretch in school history, a schedule of ranked teams including No. 7 Louisville, No. 19 Florida and No. 13 South Carolina before facing the nations top-ranked team and two-time defending national champions. "We know how good Alabama is, but we can play better," said Stoops, whose team was outgained 668-170. "We didnt play our best tonight, and thats why Im disappointed. When youre playing the No. 1 team in the country, at least give them your best shot." Most frustrating to the Wildcats was not taking advantage of early opportunities provided by the Crimson Tide. T.J. Yeldon and Kenyan Drake fumbled on back-to-back possessions in the first quarter and Alabama receivers dropped passes in Kentucky territory. The two running backs rebounded to run for two touchdowns each and Alabama brushed off those few early mistakes to blow out Kentucky by scoring on its last eight possessions. "We knew they were really driving on us and we had to get off the field," Kentucky linebacker Avery Williamson said. "We got a turnover, but we knew we had to stop them. We just werent feeling things right." Yeldon scored on runs of 24 yards and 3 yards and finished with 124 yards on 16 carries; Drake added 106 yards and a pair of 1-yard TDs on 14 attempts. Altee Tenpenny added a late 7-yard TD run and Cade Foster kicked field goals of 25 and 20 yards..dddddddddddd. AJ McCarron shook off the handful of drops to throw for a career-high 359 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown to Kevin Norwood. Alabamas defence rang up four sacks, though it did allow its first TD in four games. Some things went according to form as the Wildcats found little ground against the SECs second-ranked defence, but others went off script as the initial 15 minutes saw the Crimson Tide commit an uncharacteristic combination of fumbles and dropped passes in Wildcats territory that contributed to their first scoreless opening quarter of the season. Kenny Bells bobble while wide open down the middle killed Alabamas first drive before Drake and Yeldon each fumbled on the next two possessions, the latter was especially costly as the sophomore coughed up the ball inside the 5. It was recovered by Williamson at the 2. Kentucky couldnt take advantage of any of those breaks, but the Wildcats had a more pressing issue in replacing Whitlow after he was hurt while being sacked for a 9-yard loss on their second possession. The sophomore from Prattville, Ala., lay on the ground for several moments before he was helped off the field and carted to the dressing room. Smith came in but Kentucky gained just 62 yards in the first half. "Even though we got a couple of turnovers, we were still behind the eight ball most of the night and chasing it," Stoops said. "It was an uphill climb." Considering how seamlessly Alabama was controlling the ball and the clock before the mistakes, it was just a matter of time before the Crimson Tide took advantage of the Wildcats struggles. Alabama got on the scoreboard on its fourth drive with Fosters 25-yard field goal en route to 24 unanswered second-quarter points as Drake sandwiched 1-yard touchdown runs around Yeldons 24-yard TD run. Alabamas quick spurt included another wide-open drop by Drake late in the quarter, but McCarrons 42-yard pass to Norwood in double coverage to Kentuckys 1 earlier was the play that seemed to shake the Tide out of their doldrums and contribute to 372 first-half yards. Yeldons 3-yard TD run early in the third made it 31-0 and Alabama was in cruise control after its sputtering start. Smith finished 7 of 16 passing for 76 yards for Kentucky.
