PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Marcell Dareus attorney says the Buffalo Bills defensive tackle has agreed to enter an NFL substance abuse program in a bid to have felony drug charges in Alabama dismissed. Rod Giddens wrote in an email to The Associated Press on Monday that Dareus was allowed to enter the program during a hearing at Calhoun County Court in Alabama earlier in the day. Dareus attended the hearing while being excused from training camp in suburban Rochester, New York. Buffalos WKBW-TV first reported the agreement. Dareus, who is from Alabama, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after being stopped by a state trooper on May 5. The charges will be dismissed and potentially expunged should the 2011 first-round draft pick successfully completes the program. New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyreke Evans poured in 27 points and the New Orleans Pelicans put together a strong fourth quarter to come away with a 104-93 victory over the still-struggling New York Knicks. Evans netted eight points and Omer Asik had seven during a final period in which the Pelicans outscored New York by a 27-20 count to pull away and sent the Knicks to a ninth consecutive loss and 10th in a row on the road. Asik finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Anthony Davis put up 18 points and eight boards in New Orleans second straight victory. Amare Stoudemire scored a season-high 26 points for New York, but Carmelo Anthony was held to a relatively quiet 17 and managed just two points in the fourth quarter. J.R. Smiths 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer had the Knicks down just 77-73 heading into the fourth, but the Pelicans started the final frame strong to stretch the margin. Jrue Holiday began the period with a 3-point play and Austin Rivers knocked down a trey shortly afterward to stake New Orleans to an 83-73 lead. It was a 12-point advantage with under 8 1/2 minutes to go when Asik converted a Rivers give to put the Pelicans up by an 87-75 score. The Knicks never got the deficit under nine points the rest of the way, with New Orleans shooting 50 percent from the floor and going 6-of-8 from the foul line for the fourth quarter. Neither team was ahead by more than five points during a tightly contested first half. New York owned a 52-50 edge late in the second quarter, but Holiday buried a pull-up jumper and fed Asik for a dunk with 18.2 seconds remaining to send New Orleans in front by two at the break. The Pelicans were able to create some distance in the third quarter, during which Davis amassed 11 points. An Asik slam and a Holiday layup had New Orleans ahead 68-61 with less than five minutes to go in the stanza, and Davis threw down a dunk with 2:25 left in the period for a 73-65 advantage. Game Notes New Orleans halted a five-game home losing streak to the Knicks and improved to 6-2 at Smoothie King Center this season ... Smith finished with 17 points, but went just 6-of-18 from the field ... Knicks forward Jason Smith, who spent the previous four seasons with the Pelicans, had four points in 22 minutes against his former team ... New Orleans has won 14 of its last 17 home games against Eastern Conference opponents ... The Pelicans outrebounded New York by a 43-30 margin and owned a 54-40 edge in the paint. Cooperstown, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The 2015 National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot includes 17 new additions, including Cy Young Award winning pitchers Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz. Also new to the ballot for 2015 are sluggers Gary Sheffield and Carlos Delgado and shortstop Nomar Garciaparra. Rounding out the 17 first-time candidates are infielders Rich Aurilia, Aaron Boone and Tony Clark, outfielders Jermaine Dye, Darin Erstad, Cliff Floyd and Brian Giles, and pitchers Troy Percival, Tom Gordon, Eddie Guardado and Jason Schmidt. The 17 candidates returning to the BBWAA ballot (with their 2014 election percentages) are: Craig Biggio (74.8%), Mike Piazza (62.2%), Jeff Bagwell (54.3%), Tim Raines (46.1%), Roger Clemens (35.4%), Barry Bonds (34.7%), Lee Smith (29.9%), Curt Schilling (29.2%), Edgar Martinez (25.2%), Alan Trammell (20.8%), Mike Mussina (20.3%), Jeff Kent (15.2%), Fred McGriff (11.7%), Mark McGwire (11.0%), Larry Walker (10.2%), Don Mattingly (8.2%) and Sammy Sosa (7.2%). Mattingly is eligible for the ballot for the 15th and final time. If he is not elected in January, he will become eligible for consideration by the Expansion Era Committee beginning in the fall of 2016. Candidates need 75 percent of the vote to earn induction into the Hall of Fame. Results will be announced on Jan. 6, 2015. When including the returners to the ballot, its interesting to note that only once in the history of voting have as many as five candidates earned the 75 percent in the same voting year. That was in 1936, the first year of voting, when Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner became the First Five. Since then, the BBWAA has elected four candidates in one year only twice: 1947, when Mickey Cochrane, Frankie Frisch, Lefty Grove and Carl Hubbell were elected; and 1955, when Joe DiMaggio, Gabby Hartnett, Ted Lyons and Dazzy Vance earned election. The three candidates who at first glance deserve first-ballot Hall of Fame consideration are Johnson, Martinez and Smoltz. Johnson pitched 22 seasons for Expos, Mariners, Astros, Diamondbacks, Yankees and Giants, posting three 20-win seasons (1997, 2001-02) and winning five Cy Young Awards. The hard-throwing left-hander ended his career with a 303-166 mark with a 3.29 ERA, finishing in top 10 of his leagues Most Valuable Player Award voting twice: 1995 (6th) and 2002 (7th) and was named to 10 All-Star Games, starting four times. Known as a strikeout pitcher, Johnson led his league in strikeouts nine times (1992-95, 1999-2002, 2004) and is second on the all-time strikeout list with 4,875. Martinez played 18 seasons for Dodgers, Expos, Red Sox, Mets and Phillies, going 219-100 with a 2.93 ERA. He had two 20-win seasons (1999, 2002) and captured three Cy Young Awards (1997, 1999-2000). An eight-time All-Star, the right-hander finished in Top 10 of his leagues Most Valuable Player Award voting twice: 1999 (2nd) and 2000 (5th). He won 1999 American League Pitching Triple Crown after leading the league in wins (23), earned run average (2.07) and strikeouts (313). Smoltz, who could be the first Hall of Fame member to have the famed Tommy John surgery, made a name for himself as a starter and closer, pitching 21 seasons for Braves, Red Sox and Cardinals. Smoltz had a career record of 213-155 with a 3.33 ERA with 154 saves. He won 1996 National League Cy Young Award and was named to eight All-Star Games (1989, 1992-93, 1996, 2002-03, 2005, 2007). As a reliever, the right-hander topped the 40-save mark three times (2002-04), the only three full seasons he served as his teams closer. His 3,084 strikeouts rank 16th all-time. Smoltz appeared in 25 postseason series over 14 seasons with Braves and Cardinals, posting 15-4 record in 41 appearances (27 starts) with 2.67 earned run average and four saves, striking out 199 batters in 209 innings. If the BBWAA elects at least two candidates in January, it will mark the first time since 2004-05 that the writers have elected multiple candidates in back- to-back years. Dennis Eckersley and Paul Molitor were elected in 2004, followed by Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg in 2005. The last time three-or-more BBWAA candidates were elected in successive years was 1954-55, when the DiMaggio-Hartnett-Lyons-Vance group followed the 1954 class of Bill Dickey, Rabbit Maranville and Bill Terry. The Class of 2015, and any candidates elected by the Golden Era Committee on Dec. 8, will be inducted on July 26 in Cooperstown. Brandon Belt and Juan Perez also homered for San Francisco in the first game of the season-ending series between two teams battling to stay out of the cellar in the NL West. Vogelsong (4-6) gave up a pair of runs in the first three innings and had to pitch out of a two-on, two-out jam in the sixth to win for the first time since Aug. 25. Chris Denorfia singled and scored twice for the Padres, who lost for the sixth time in seven games at San Franciscos waterfront ballpark. An hour after receiving San Franciscos 2013 "Willie Mac Award," given out annually to the most inspirational Giants player, Pence homered off San Diego starter Burch Smith to cap a three-run third inning. The 30-year-old outfielder is set to become a free agent this off-season and has already stated his desire to return to San Francisco. Belt also homered in the third while Perez hit his first career home run in the second. Vogelsong did just enough to make it hold up. The Giants right-hander, who missed more than 2 1/2 months after breaking bones near the pinkie of his pitching hand on a swing in May, allowed five hits over six innings. He walked four and struck out three. San Francisco is trying to close out its season on a strong note after struggling nearly all season. The defending World Series champs (75-85) are guaranteed of their worst finish since going 72-90 in 2008. The Padres had won two straight before falling into a tie with the Giants with two games left. Both teams are 17 games out of first place iin the NL West.dddddddddddd Smith (1-3) allowed six runs and eight hits over 5 2-3 innings. The San Diego rookie walked three and struck out eight, giving him 42 in 31 innings. Tommy Medicas RBI single in the first inning gave the Padres an early lead. San Francisco answered with three home runs to go in front for good. Perezs home run, a two-out line drive to left after Pablo Sandoval walked earlier in the inning, made it 2-1. After Denorfia walked and scored in the third to tie it, Belt hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning. Two batters later, Pence snapped an 0-for-27 skid with his two-run blast to give the Giants a 5-2 lead. Gregor Blancos bases-loaded walk in the sixth forced in Brandon Crawford to make it 6-2. San Diego loaded the bases in the eighth but reliever Santiago Casilla struck out Jesus Guzman then got Nick Hundley to ground into a 1-2-3 double play. Pinch-hitter Logan Forsythe homered in the ninth off Javier Lopez for San Diego. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Marian Gaborik off injured reserve after he missed the past 22 games, along with the Sochi Olympics, because of a broken collarbone. The Blue Jackets play Thursday night at New Jersey in their first game after the NHLs Olympic hiatus. A native of Trencin, Slovakia, Gaborik has represented his country at the 2006 and 2010 Olympics but was unable to play in Sochi because of his injury. Club president Brendan Shanahan said Friday the club wont hire a full-time head coach until after the season, meaning Horachek will remain behind the bench until that time. Horachek was promoted to interim head coach Wednesday, a day after Randy Carlyle was fired. Were going to wait until the off-season now, he said. Ive been pleased with just the early reports from Peter. Peter will be one of the people that we will consider at the end of the year but were going to wait until the end of the year. Shanahan wouldn’t get into the types of moves he anticipates making in the future, saying simply, “If we have an opportunity to make this team better, we will.” “We in management prepare for each and every game but you’re also constantly looking down the horizon. We certainly have a good feel for what we’ve seen so far, we don’t always share our plan because our plan can change.” “We (management) are watching and we wont be afraid to act if things dont get better.” Toronto dropped a 6-2 home decision to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night, just hours after Horachek was promoted. The club resumes action Friday night, hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets. Shanahan spoke following Torontos pre-game skate, his first availability since Carlyles dismissal. The first-year president said he was his intention to meet with reporters at the halfway point of the season to discuss the teams fortunes to that point. Heading into Fridays action, Toronto (21-17-3, 45 points) is tied with the Florida Panthers for ninth in the Eastern Conference standings, three points behind eighth-place Boston (21-15-6), which faces Philadelphia later in the evening. ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers have replaced Prince Fielders replacement with a 32-year-old rookie playing first base in the major leagues for the first time. Vin Baker Jersey . Mitch Moreland, who will get a second opinion before expected surgery on his left ankle later this week, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday. The Rangers selected Brad Snyders contract from Triple-A Round Rock and he was in the starting lineup at first base against the Miami Marlins. Snyder played in 20 games for the Chicago Cubs from 2010-11, with his only six starts came in the outfield. He also made 12 appearances as a pinch-hitter and another as a pinch-runner. In 1,246 minor league games over 12 seasons, Snyder played only two games at first base -- his past two games with Round Rock before getting called up by the Rangers. "He made the plays, he needs some work," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "Were working with everybody else up here, so that will be no different with him." Snyder said he has played first base in winter ball, and for a few games in college. But he has previously taken a lot of groundballs and done other work at first. Fielder, the slugger added in an off-season trade from Detroit and signed through 2020, had a cervical fusion surgery last month. Moreland will be in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday to get a second opinion on the left ankle that has bothered him since spring training. He could have a procedure to remove a bone in the back of the ankle and be out three to four weeks, or reconstructive surgery that would sideline him for three months. "I dont know whats wrong in there. Im trying to figure out whats going on and figure out the best route to take to get healthy, so I can get on the field and be ready to go," Moreland said Tuesday. "I knew that surgery was going to be there at the end of the year, what I was trying to get. Obviously I didnt make that point. I tried to though. ... Ive been trying to push through it." Moreland hit .246 with two homers and 23 RBIs in 52 games. Snyder, who went to spring training with Texas as a non-roster invitee, hit .284 with 18 home runs and 51 RBIs in 61 games for Round Rock. He was second in the Pacific Coast League in homers and runs (46). To make room on the 40-man roster for Snyder, the Rangers transferred left-hander Matt Harrison from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list. Harrison had spinal fusion surgery June 3. CORTINA DAMPEZZO, Italy -- Swiss skier Lara Gut mastered a windy super-G Sunday in the final World Cup speed race before the Sochi Olympics, rediscovering the form that helped her win three straight races to open the season. Will Compton Jersey . For her fifth victory of this campaign -- but the first since Lake Louise, Alberta, in early December -- Gut clocked 1 minute, 27.81 seconds down the Olympia delle Tofane course. Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein finished second, 0.12 seconds behind, and Maria Hoefl-Riesch was third, 0.61 back, to maintain her lead in the overall World Cup standings. "Its important to think about skiing and not the result," Gut said. "At the start of the season there was talk about the overall and all those things and I couldnt think about skiing. "I just have to ski the way I can, then I can have a good result," Gut added. "Today it was just me and the slope." This race concluded a run of four speed events in four days, and Weirather was a contender each day. Her results were fourth, second, third and second. "Im proud of my consistency and the ability to perform well in every race," said Weirather, the daughter of champion skiers Hanni Wenzel and Harti Weirather. "Thats something new for me." A combination of strong wind and a tough course, set by Tina Mazes coach, Mauro Pini, led to 19 racers failing to finish. Light was also a factor, as the sun ducked in and out of clouds. Olympic champion Andrea Fischbacher of Austria crashed and slammed into the safety netting but got right back up and skied down without major injury. Maze, who won Saturdays downhill, finished fifth. The tailwind was so strong when Hoefl-Riesch came down that the German was nearly blown off course over the final jump. Hoefl-Riesch landed outside the blue lines painted onto the snow to help guide skiers and had to rapidly change direction to clear the last gate. "I was just happy when I went over the finish line because it was a hard fight for me on the bottom," Hoefl-Riesch said. Other skiers were slowed by a headwind as the conditions constantly shifted, at times making the banner hanging over the finish line billow in the wind. When the winds finally calmed down, it enabled Marusa Ferk of Slovenia to finish 11th with the No. 49 bib. Chemmy Alcott of Britain, the next skier down, placed 23rd for her first World Cup points since rejoining the circuit this week after leg surgery. The top Americans were Stacey Cook in 13th and Julia Mancuso in 16th. In the overall standings, Hoefl-Riesch holds a 128-point lead over Weirather. In the super-G ranks, Gut leads by 38 points over Weirather with only one more super-G remaining -- at the World Cup finals in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, in March. The womens circuit moves to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, for a giant slalom and slalom next weekend -- the final events before the Sochi Games open Feb. 7. Gut will be a threat in multiple events in Sochi. She said shes most excited about giant slalom but shell also be a contender in downhill and super-combined. "Im going to try to be like Bode (Miller) in the super-combined at the Olympics," Gut said. Titans Jerseys . As the schedule flipped from November to December, they would go on to drop five straight, falling six games below the .500 mark before a franchise-altering trade turned them into an unrecognizable team. Custom Titans Jerseys . Markieff Morris and Marcus Morris, city natives, handled the catering for teammates that begged them for the tasty postgame feast.TSN football analyst Chris Schultz breaks down all the teams and each division in the NFL leading up to the regular season. Next up, the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South. Indianapolis Colts Over the last five years the Indianapolis Colts have won 14 games, 10 games, two games, 11 games and 11 games. When they only won two games was the year Peyton Manning was injured and the last two years, when they won 11 games each, was when Andrew Luck emerged. The value of excellence at quarterback can never be discounted. How good is Andrew Luck? No other quarterback has passed for more yards (8,196) in their first two seasons in the history of the NFL. And he doesnt have a strong supporting cast. The offensive line is average, the Colts lost Reggie Wayne for the year, and Trent Richardson did not produce as anticipated after being the third overall pick after Luck and Robert Griffin III in the 2012 Draft. Richardson averaged 2.9 yards per carry. Luck is the obvious talent for the Colts but the hidden talent going into this year is going to be the linebackers. In their 3-4 defence their linebackers should be Eric Walden, a former Green Bay Packer, DQwell Jackson, a former Cleveland Brown, Jerrell Freeman, a former Saskatchewan Roughrider, and Robert Mathis who is going into his 12th year. Linebacker is strong for the Colts. And you have to acknowledge the approach of Chuck Pagano. I have never really bought into the whole “Football Family” attitude and approach that coaches use to get a team to work together, rely on each other, and perform. But Pagano seems extremely genuine and his players respond. The best asset for Pagano this year is they play in a week division. There are new coaches in Houston (Bill OBrien) and Tennessee (Ken Wisenhunt), and a second year coach in Gus Bradley with a rookie quarterback in Blake Bortles. The division is there for the taking. If Luck were to have an off year it would have been last year, his sophomore campaign. But now in his third year with the same Pep Hamilton playbook, he might create a new record for most passing yards in the first three seasons in the history of NFL football. This one is easy. The Indianapolis Colts, first in the AFC South because of Andrew Luck. Tennessee Titans The Tennessee Titans are my dark horse team in the AFC this year. A lot will depend on the consistency of Jake Lockers performance at quarterback, who is in his final year of his rookie contract. Now, he knows that if he can go from average to really good he will benefit immensely monetarily. Basically a once in a lifetime opportunity that he can control through his own effort and even though he will not receive Rogers, Brady, Manning, Kaepernick or Dalton money, it is still good enough to set him up for life. This is a big year for Locker. And he may have the right personnel around him to make it happen. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt coached Ben Roethlisberger to a Super Bowl when Roethlisberger was 23, and coached Kurt Warner to one when he was 37. Locker is only 26. And the people protecting him could develop into one of the best groups in football. Chance Warmack and Taylor Lewan are both first round picks. Andy Levitre is a highly paid free agent that has 80 consecutive starts from last year and Michael Roos is a nine-year left tackle that is proven. And Michael Oher from Baltimore is an excellent addition constantly overshadowed due to his biographical movie. Oher is an excellent player at guard or tackle, the only unknown is at center. It will also be interesting to see Leon Washington and Dexter McCluster on the same offence with the power of Shonn Greene and the youth of Bishop Sankey. Washington and McCluster are both 58 and about 180lbs; guys who are great punt and kick returners and third down backs. When you look at personal with Tennessee, offensive coordinator Jason Michael and Wisenhunt have a lot to work with. On the opposite side of the ball, Tennessee goes from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and time will tell if they have the linebackers to play that style of defence. They do have an underrated player up front in Jerrell Casey who stands 6 1 and 305 pounds. All 3-4 defences need defensive linemen that never get knocked off the ball, that is Casey. The two big losses last year were home and away to the Indianapolis Colts as Andrew Luck played come-from-behind football to win. This year, September 28th and December 28th are key dates for the Titans. Previous head coach Mike Munchak was 6-12 in the AFC Souuth so what needs to change is clear. Blaine Gabbert Jersey. . But Wisenhunt is a former successful player and coordinator and took the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl. He did it before, maybe again. Tennessee will finish second in the AFC South. Houston Texans I think it is just a matter of time before Bill OBrien is successful as a head coach with the Houston Texans. His background with the New England Patriots gives him a foundation for success and what he was able to create in his time at Penn State, considering the limitations and atmosphere, was remarkable. The Texans have talent everywhere and even though they lost 14 in a row to finish 2-14, nine of the losses were by a touchdown or less. The key component will be Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback. Now in his 10th year he has been with five different teams so something is missing. He will not be asked to win games but there will be moments in games that he has to be the reason for a win. Andrew Luck is the best quarterback in the division by far while Jake Locker, Blake Bortles and Fitzpatrick are all similar: mostly unknown over 16 games. On defence, Romeo Crennel is the new coordinator and with his five Super Bowl rings, he cant be questioned. JJ Watt amazed with his explosive effort and polished technique, and if Jadeveon Clowney lives up to expectations Houston could have one of the best defensive front sevens in football. On offence, Arian Foster has to have a bounce back year. In 2012 he scored 17 touchdowns and is still only 28 so time and success history is on his side. I can say almost the same thing for Andre Johnson at wide receiver. His frustration with the organization is understandable on a personal level and if you look at it from his perspective. At 33, his time is limited. As a player he has accomplished everything possible to achieve except for a Super Bowl ring. Now comes OBrien with new everything; attitude, playbook, evaluation. Are the Texans going to win a Super Bowl in the next two years? Unlikely. And in two years Johnson will be 35, one step slower, and a salary cap stress. His time is now, the Texans time is the future. The 14 losses in a row was one of the most unusual stories of last season and will not happen this season. But with everything new and an unknown at quarterback, Houston will improve but not enough to be a playoff team. Theyll finish third in the AFC South. Jacksonville Jaguars Even at 4- 12 last year the Jacksonville Jaguars won-loss record was deceiving. They were 0-7 against teams that made the playoffs last year and the four wins were over Tennessee, Cleveland and Houston twice. Gus Bradley as a head coach has a long was to go but comes from the Seattle Seahawks tree of success in 2012, his last year there, so you know what he is trying to duplicate: a high energy team that has exceptional pass rushers to dominate on third down and maturity at quarterback. In what is a very interesting move, coach Bradley has already committed to Chad Henne as his starter and expressed he will bring Blake Bortles along as the reserve throughout the year. Usually those types of procedures are kept quiet, but it will be interesting to see if he can keep his commitment when times get tough or when injuries happen. A lot has to happen for Jacksonville to be a surprise playoff team. Left tackle Luke Joeckel has to be a consistent 16 game starter and go unnoticed. Toby Gerhart needs to be a 1,000-yard running back and establish himself as dominate in all areas of running, pass catching and blocking. To be a 1,000-yard back you only need to average 62.5 yards per game and that is a realistic goal. Gehart does not have a lot of carries as Adrian Peterson took care of that while he was in Minnesota, so the Jaguars have a fresh running back going into his fifth year. And the defence overall has to improve from 29th against the run and 27th on third down to anywhere around 15th in both categories. Given Bradleys background, that is more likely to happen than other aspects of improvement. A reason I say that free agency was good for Jacksonville the last year was because of two key defensive lineman that fit, Red Bryant and Chris Clemons. Jacksonville may also have the most underrated linebacker in football in Paul Posluszny. All NFL schedules are difficult but Jacksonvilles is reasonable. The Division is not dominant and they play the four NFC East teams, which you never know how will develop. Houston has a better defence, Tennessee has a better overall team, and the Colts have Andrew Luck. Jacksonville will finish fourth in the AFC South. Tortorella worked his first home game

LAKE FOREST, Ill. Preston Brown Jersey . -- The Chicago Bears and first-round draft pick Kyle Fuller have agreed to a four-year contract that includes an option for a fifth season. Fuller, a cornerback from Virginia Tech, was taken with the 14th pick last week. With the deal announced Wednesday, the Bears have seven of the eight players they drafted under contract. The exception is defensive tackle Will Sutton, a third-rounder from Arizona. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Fuller started 42 of 50 games at Virginia Tech and had 129 solo tackles along with six interceptions, 21 pass break ups and four forced fumbles in his career. He had 24 tackles, broke up 10 passes and picked off two in nine games last season. The Bears have a pair of two-time Pro Bowl cornerbacks in Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman, but Fuller is expected to play on Chicagos nickel defence and special teams at the start of his pro career. He could eventually wind up replacing the 33-year-old Tillman, whos on a one-year contract. Both starting safety spots are open for the Bears, but general manager Phil Emery made two things clear last week -- Fuller will play cornerback and Tillman isnt moving to safety. Fuller grew up in a family with four Virginia Tech players, including former NFL defensive back Vincent Fuller, who played from 2005-2011 with Tennessee and Detroit. Corey, a wide receiver, was on the Lions practice squad last year. The Bears have been moving quickly to sign their draft picks. They agreed to contracts with safety Brock Vereen and quarterback David Fales on Monday and defensive tackle Ego Ferguson, running back KaDeem Carey, punter Patrick ODonnell and offensive tackle Charles Leno, Jr. on Tuesday. Mark Walton Bengals Jersey . Louis second-period goal increased the New York Rangers lead but Dustin Brown has countered for the Los Angeles Kings who now trail the New York Rangers 2-1 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final at Madison Square Garden. Lack made 20 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Canucks blanked the St. Louis Blues 1-0 in the first post-Olympic game for both teams night. The win was like sweet music to the Canucks (28-24-9) as they ended their losing streak at seven games while moving into sole possession of eighth place in the Western Conference. The Blues (39-13-6) dropped their third straight decision to Vancouver this season as they were shut out for the first time in 2013-14. "It feels very good to be able to shut the door," said Lack. "It was very big for our team. "Its a big relief." The Canucks outshot the Blues 35-20, but Lack, Vancouvers backup who is in his first full NHL season, was forced to make many difficult saves. "I feel like I have been working on this start for a while and I was really excited to play, and Rollie (Melanson, Vancouvers goalie coach) has been bugging me for weeks saying we need to win these 1-0 games, so its huge," said Lack. Jannik Hansen scored the games only goal as he finally broke a scoreless deadlock at 11:13 of the third period. He took a backhand stretch pass from Tom Sestito from deep in the Vancouver zone just past centre ice, raced in on a breakaway and beat Halak with a high shot. It was Hansens first goal in just over a month, a span of eight games, after he last scored Jan. 26 against Phoenix. "Great play by Tommy, he could see I was taking off a little early and he fed me a nice pass, and I was able to get it through the goalie," said Hansen. "You dont have to look at the standings very long to see we need to win a lot of games here to make the playoffs, and its obviously a very strong opponent today, a playoff team. These are the teams you have to beat. We cant just beat the teams below us." Vancouver was blanked on four power plays while St. Louis failed to score on three. Lack drew the start after backstopping the Canucks to a pair of wins over St. Louis earlier this season. Three of his nine wins have come against the Blues, and he has allowed only three goals to them. The Canucks came out with the added aggression that coach John Tortorella has been seeking as they outshot the Blues 14-6 in the first period. But for most of the night, the hosts could not beat a steady Halak, who felt fresh after playing just two games for Slovakia in the Olympics and getting plenty of rest after arriving back in St. Louis last Thursday. "It was a pretty good pace for 60 minutes," said Halak. "It was just that we came up short. We couldnt score. "I tried to do my best. I tried to give the guys a chance to win. Id like to get (Hansens goal) back." St. Louis had nine players in Sochi and the Canucks hhad seven. Andrew Billings Jersey. But Blues coach Ken Hitchcock, who served as an assistant with Canadas gold-medal-winning team, did not think post-Olympic fatigue was a factor. "It was a hard fought, well played game for the most part," said Hitchcock. "I didnt think we had the energy in the third period than we did in the end of the first and the second. We had a great second period. But weve had trouble beating (Lack.) We havent scored on him, and hes made some big saves and hes won a lot of the scrambles. We had all the penetration in the second period for all the scoring chances." Hitchcock lamented his teams inability to score on odd-man rushes in two losses in Vancouver this season. "When you get two-on-ones and three-on-ones on the road, youve got to capitalize," he said. "I think that was the difference in the hockey game." Lacks best moments came late in the second period as he denied Blues captain David Backes on a one-timer during a delayed penalty and Alex Steen on a deflection, and got his pad on a T.J. Oshie shot before defenceman Alex Edler blocked the puck as he attempted to put in the rebound. After the save, fans chanted "Eddie! Eddie!" But Oshie, who played for the U.S. in the Olympics, was not willing to give Lack too much credit. "He made some good saves, but I dont think we really tested him like we could have," said Oshie. "We let him see a lot of pucks." There was no denying Vancouvers desperation though. "Theyre a desperate team right now," said Halak. "For them, every game is a playoff game. They need to get every point that they can." Notes: Olympians from both teams were honoured in a pre-game ceremony. Blues defencemen Jay Bouwmeester and Alex Pietrangelo drew loud cheers from the crowd when they were saluted, along with Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis and goaltender Roberto Luongo, for helping Canada win the 2014 Olympic gold medal. … Tortorella worked his first home game since receiving a six-game suspension for storming the Calgary Flames dressing room area Jan. 18. … Canucks captain Henrik Sedin returned to action after suffering an undisclosed injury before the Olympics. He missed the past two practices while tending to a personal matter in Sweden, but returned Wednesday in time for the game. Defenceman Kevin Bieksa returned after missing five games before the Olympic break with a foot injury. … Vancouver centre Ryan Kesler sat out with a hand injury suffered while playing for the U.S. in the Olympics. Canucks defencemen Chris Tanev (thumb) and Andrew Alberts (concussion) remained out. … Blues defenceman Jordan Leopold missed the game due to an ankle injury. He was replaced by Carlo Colaiacovo. NEW YORK -- Henrik Lundqvist already knows the joy of getting a lucrative contract extension. Derek Grant Jersey . Who knew that one week later, a win at Madison Square Garden would bring the star goalie pure jubilation. When Lundqvist turned aside Mikael Backlund in the seventh round of the shootout Sunday night, he and the rest of the New York Rangers had a long-awaited 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames and an end to a four-game losing streak, all at home. Lundqvist, who stopped 18 shots through overtime, spread his arms and looked up to the ceiling as his teammates raced from the bench to meet him at the end of the 0-3-1 skid. "It was just a big relief to get two points," said Lundqvist, who earned just his second win since agreeing to a seven-year contract extension. "I had a chance to close it out twice and I didnt do it. Finally we ended the game." Benoit Pouliot scored the fourth goal of the Rangers first shootout of the season to give them their first win on a team-record, nine-game homestand. "I just had a feeling that if we dont win this one, Im not going to be a happy guy," Lundqvist said. "Its a big win for us. Right now, you have to look at it as taking baby steps in improving and start winning. You cant turn this around right away. "You start with one period, then two periods, then a game. Then you start feeling good about yourself." Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin scored to erase the Rangers early 2-0 deficit, and Chris Kreider made it 3-3 with 7:53 left in regulation as New York improved to 2-15 in games in which it allowed the first goal. "Thats a picture weve seen," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said about the early deficit. "We stuck with playing a pretty solid defensive game. We werent giving them much, and we spent a lot of time in their end. "We got a couple of goals and just kept plugging away." Rookie centre Sean Monahan gave Calgary a 3-2 lead at 4:44 of the third but the Flames couldnt stretch their winning streak to three. The 19-year-old Monahan chipped a shot from in close off a feed from behind the net from Curtis Glencross for his 10th goal and third in his last seven games. He missed seven games because of a broken foot, and returned to the lineup Saturday for the Flames win at Buffalo. Backlund and Glencross scored in the first period, Jiri Hudler had two assists, and Karri Ramo made 29 saves through overtime. "It was a big battle all night," Ramo said. "Not happy about the goals I allowed. Sometimes you just have to take the point and move on. "We played good enough to win. They were a desperate team." The clubs played a frantic final few minutes of regulation when the Rangers were given power plays 40 seconds apart after Mike Cammalleri was sent off for roughing, and Ramo was called for delay of game when he whacked a rebound out of play. That advantage was short-circuited right when Cammalleris penalty ended when Kreider was given four minutes for high-sticking Chris Butler. The Rangers got it to overtime, with Calgary still having 2:04 left on its power play. "Thought wed get it done in overtime, but we couldnt execute on the power play," Flames captain Mark Giordano said. "Were not happy with the point. It should have been two. "If you get a power play in overtime, you should win." The Flames had won their first two since general manager Jay Feaster and assistant GM John Weisbrod were fired Thursday. New York tied it at 2 at 7:29 of the second on Hagelins sixth goal. Hagelin got to a rebound, swung around the net and stuffed a shot inside the right post. The Rangers again had a rough first period, but it was actually a better start than in their previous game -- holding the Flames to two goals. The Rangers trailed Columbus 3-0 in the opening frame on Thursday, and Lundqvist was chased from the net 11:10 into the 3-2 loss. Calgary got the quick jump when Backlund scored at 7:28, just five seconds into a power play after Kreider was sent off for interference. Backlund won a faceoff in the left circle and moved into the slot, where he deftly tipped in Hudlers shot for his fourth goal. The Flames made it 2-0 with 5:00 left in the period. Hudler weaved his way in close and made a short backhanded pass to Glencross, who used his own backhand to beat Lundqvist for his sixth goal. The announcement of Glencross goal was only halfway finished when Stepan brought a roar from the crowd with his sixth of the season 25 seconds later. It was Stepans first goal in 11 games. NOTES: Stepan earned his 100th NHL assist on Kreiders goal. ... Giordano played in his 400th NHL game. ... Calgarys previous four games were decided by 2-1 scores. ... INDIANAPOLIS - With three starters out with injuries, Roy Hibbert knows the Indiana Pacers are relying on him each night. T. J. Carrie Browns Jersey . He also had some help Monday night.Hibbert scored a season-high 29 points to help Indiana beat the Utah Jazz 97-86 Monday night, ending the Pacers six-game losing streak.A.J. Price had 22 points and Lavoy Allen added 12 — also season highs for both players — as the Pacers won for the first time since the season opener. Allen also had 15 rebounds and Hibbert grabbed five.I was just trying to be aggressive, my teammates found me in spots and I tried to establish myself early, Hibbert said. Lavoy played and awesome game and A.J. was the reason why we won this game.Price, playing on a 10-day contract with the Pacers granted a roster exemption due to their injuries, scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, including two 3-pointers during a 13-2 run that gave Indiana an 87-79 lead midway through the period.Im playing for my life, Price said. Thats what its been for the couple years for me. I am staying until they tell me to go. Im going to keep playing as hard as I can.Solomon Hill added 13 points for the Pacers, and his dunk on Indiana native and former Butler star Gordon Hayward in the third quarter may have been the turning point for Indiana. The Pacers were trailing 60-57 with a little more than 5 minutes left in the third when Hill drove to the rim.It was just being aggressive, Hill said. I feel like they dont have too much depth at the wing spot so you have to attack the guys that are out there. You want to get him (Hayward) tired, you want to wear him out. He cant be a guy off a back-to-back that plays 40-plus minutes.Hayward scored 30 points to lead Utah. Enes Kanter had 18 points and Derrick Favors added 13 points and eight rebounds.Hibbert was a monster tonight, Hayward said.Indiana played without injured starters David West (sprained ankle), George Hill (bruised knee) and Paul George (leg).Hayward scored 13 points in the third quarter as the Jazz use a 19-4 run to take a 60-53 lead midway through the period. The Pacers clamped down in the fourth quarter, holding Hayward to four points while outscoring the Jazz 25-17 in the period. All six of Indianas losses during it skid was by 10 points or fewer and the last four defeats were all two possession games, including an overtime loss at Washington.I look at us as a young team just because everybody is new to their role, any kind of success can be a confidence builder, Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. Build on the things we are doing well. Just understand that we can be better and correct the things we are not doing well enough.TIP-INSJazz: Former Indiana prep standout and Butler star Gordon Hayward returned home Monday. Hayward handed out roughly 50 tickets to Mondays game. Anytime you get to come back (home) and get a chance to have people you grew up with come watch you play is pretty special, Hayward said.Pacers: Prices 22-point effort against the Jazz makes him a valuable piece to the Indiana picture right now.BALL SECURITYIndianas seven turnovers were a season-low. The Pacers did not commit a turnover in the first quarter, their first 12-minute stretch of the season without a giveaway.UP NEXTPacers: At Miami on Wednesday.Jazz: At Atlanta on Wednesday. Howard Wilson Jersey . The Brazilian-born strikers brace drew him level with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo as the leagues leading scorers with 17 goals apiece through 16 rounds. "The important thing is to help the team win, not the goals," Diego Costa said. After a first half dominated by defence, Atletico pressed Valencia into its area and Diego Costa did the rest. Zane Gonzalez Browns Jersey . The 23-year-old restricted free agent appeared in all 48 games last season, finishing second among all Sabres skaters with 15 goals and 34 points.CHICAGO -- Chris Sale is a dominant power pitcher with the potential for a double-digit strikeout performance every time he takes the mound. But the Chicago White Sox ace said his focus against the San Diego Padres on Sunday was being economical. "The philosophy is on or out in three, so I was just trying to fill the zone with quality strikes and go from there," he said. Sale pitched a two-hitter, Paul Konerko homered and the White Sox posted 4-1 victory to avoid being swept. Sale (5-0) struck out nine, walked none and threw 100 pitches in the complete game performance that lasted just 2:08. He froze Everth Cabrera for a called strike three to end the game, and retired the final 14 batters. Sale has allowed just two earned runs in his last 25 innings spanning four starts, and has a 1.59 ERA overall. The lefty was on the disabled list in late April because of a strained muscle in his pitching arm. Because of that, Sale was on a pitch count -- the White Sox wouldnt say how many -- but he never was in danger of being removed because he was so efficient. "I think the rain-shortened start and then pitching on his regular turn, he was fresh," San Diego manager Bud Black said, referring to Sales last start on Tuesday when he went just three innings. "We havent seen him during the regular season, but you can see why this guys one of the best pitchers in the American League: deceptive delivery, good velocity, really good change, good breaking ball," he said. "He had it working today." Konerko also doubled and drove in three runs as the White Sox won for the eighth time in 13 games. The veteran slugger has been playing every day with rookie Jose Abreu on the disabled list, but that is scheduled to end Monday when Abreu is activated. "Im just trying to chip in," Konerko said. "Im here to have good days against left-handed pitching like that, and you try to do your best on the other days when you have to play like its been. Its been a bit of a whirlwind the past couple weeks getting back in there and playing, but its good to have it today with the way (Sale) pitched." EEric Stults (2-6) gave up four runs and five hits in six innings. Zane Gonzalez Jersey. Sale sailed through the first four innings, retiring 12 straight batters to start the game. Konerko gave Chicago a 1-0 lead in the second when he hit a drive to the back of the left-field bullpen for his third homer of the season. Chase Headley led off the Padres fifth with his fifth homer. Tommy Medica followed with a single, but Sale quickly regrouped. He got Jedd Gyorko to ground into a double play and struck out Yonder Alonso to end the inning. "I dont think he missed any of that one," Sale said of Headleys homer. "It was a fastball left right there for him and you cant do that to him. Hes a big, strong guy and made me pay for it, obviously." It was a rare mistake. Through eight innings he had thrown just 84 pitches, making the decision to bring him out for the ninth that much easier for manager Robin Ventura. The White Sox regained the lead in the fifth on a solo homer by Tyler Flowers. They added two more in the sixth when Konerko doubled down the left-field line with two out, driving in Dayan Viciedo and Alexei Ramirez. That was plenty of offence for Sale. "He was fantastic today," Ventura said. "This was as efficient as he has been ever from watching him. He was pounding the strike zone and down in the zone, too." NOTES: Abreu (tendinitis left ankle) played in a simulated game for the second straight day and said he feels fine. He is set to play Mondays game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. "Sitting out has been difficult," Abreu said through a translator. "But you have to recognize there are things we dont control." No official move will be made until Monday, but Chicago is sending INF Marcus Semien to Triple-A Charlotte. ... Padres CF Cameron Maybin missed the game and is listed as day-to-day after leaving Saturdays game with a sore right calf. ... Director of scouting Doug Laumann said that the White Sox, who pick third in Thursdays amateur draft, "more than likely" would select a pitcher in the first round. Provo, UT (SportsNetwork. Taron Johnson Jersey .com) - Delon Wright had 18 points and 11 rebounds and No. 13 Utah ended a long winless drought in Provo with a 65-61 decision over in-state rival BYU. While Wrights excellent all-around performance certainly played a part, it was the defense that fueled the Utes (7-1) first road win in the series since January of 2005. The Cougars entered Wednesdays showdown as the highest scoring team in Division I, but were held nearly 34 points below their season average while hitting just 36.9 percent of their shots against Utahs pressure. Tyler Haws did finish with 23 points and eight rebounds for BYU (7-3), with Kyle Collinsworth compiling 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the loss. Vontae Davis Bills Jersey . Grimes signed a $32 million, four-year contract to remain with Miami. The deal, which includes $16 million guaranteed, rewards Grimes for his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury that forced him to miss almost all of the 2012 season. Eddie Yarbrough Bills Jersey .C. -- Charles Oakley, one of the NBAs all-time tough guys, may not return to the Charlotte Bobcats bench next season because of a painful back condition he says was caused during an assault last year in Las Vegas. ATLANTA -- The Colorado Rockies began another day without Carlos Gonzalez in their starting lineup with the more daunting knowledge Nolan Arenado will be missing for much longer. The Rockies placed Arenado on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, one day after he broke his left middle finger on a head-first slide into second base. The team recalled infielder Josh Rutledge from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Arenado was hitting .305 with six homers and 28 RBIs. A decision on surgery or other treatment options wont be made until the third baseman is examined by a specialist. Arenado said Saturday he knew the finger was broken as soon as he made the slide in Fridays 3-2 loss to the Braves. "I kind of feel like Im letting these guys down a little bit," Arenado said. "That hurts a little bit." Manager Walt Weiss said he knew Arenado was upset "so I shot him a text late last night." "At some point, if youre lucky enough to play long enough, youre probably going to have to deal with an injury," Weiss said. "And sometimes a substantial one. Hes got to keep his mind strong and be ready to help us when he gets ready." Charlie Culberson, who replaced Arenado on Friday, was starting at third base Saturday. Meanwhile, Gonzalez missed his third straight start with a swollen left index finger. Jeremy Kerley Bills Jersey. Weiss said he didnt want to give Gonzalez a full game but said the outfielder was available to pinch-hit. Gonzalez was on deck to pinch-hit when Fridays game ended. Rutledge has played second base and shortstop this season. He was placed on the 15-day DL on May 2 with a viral infection, then was optioned to Colorado Springs on May 13. The addition of Rutledge gives Colorado the flexibility to move D.J. LeMahieu from second base to third. "Weve got some moving parts here so well mix and match at little bit," Weiss said. "Some of those things tend to work themselves out, but weve got some options. "Sure, D.J.s got some history at third base. Hes playing a Gold Glove second base. You dont necessarily want to move a guy thats playing dominant defence like he is, but for our club that may be something we look to do." Right fielder Michael Cuddyer started 150 games at third with Minnesota from 2002-10. "Ill play anywhere anyone ever tells me," Cuddyer said before adding: "But there are some positions that for the betterment of the team ..." Cuddyer didnt complete the thought, but it was clear he didnt expect to be looking for a third base glove anytime soon. CLEVELAND -- Sitting on a stage last week alongside No. Joseph Noteboom Rams Jersey . 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins and new coach David Blatt, general manager David Griffin said he hoped this would be a monumental off-season for the Cavaliers. Its already been quite a summer. And LeBron James is still out there. Cleveland kept its momentum rolling early Tuesday by getting All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to agree to a new, five-year, $90 million contract extension. Irvings deal, completed with a handshake in New York with owner Dan Gilbert, cements a commitment with Cleveland that wasnt always so strong. "Im here for the long haul Cleveland!!!! And Im ecstatic!!" Irving wrote on his Twitter account shortly after the agreement was reached. "Super excited and blessed to be here and a part of something special." For months, Irvings future with the Cavs seemed uncertain. There were reports he wasnt happy in Cleveland as well as speculation the Cavs didnt believe he was a cornerstone player. There were trade rumours and rumblings the team was not going to offer him the maximum extension. Whatever differences there may have been seem to have been worked out. Griffin, who likes to refer to his team as "family," has the Cavs united. James surely has noticed. The Cavs have waited four years for their chance to lure the four-time league MVP back home. This may be the perfect time. Because Irvings extension doesnt kick in until the 2015-16 season, the Cavs have room under the salary cap to pursue free agents. They would have to move some other contracts if the reports are accurate that James will only sign for a max deal. Griffin has said clearing space to accommodate a five-year, $120 million contract would be extremely easy. The hard part might be getting James to believe the Cavs, who have not made the playoffs since he left in 2010, are title contenders -- now. Theyve got some quality pieces for sure, but do they have enough? Irving, who played in a career-high 71 games this past season, has established himself as one of the NBAs elite point guards, and now that the contract situation is no longer an issue, it may unburden him to play the best basketball of his life. The 6-foot-8 Wiggins would have been the top pick a year ago if he hadnt gone to college and James has long admired the 19-year-olds gifts. Its somewhat interesting that Griffin said Wiggins potential greatness would come at shooting guard, perhaps leaving an opening at small forward for a certain former Cavalier. To entice James, the Cavs may need to make a blockbuster move. Theyve got some assets to play with and a trade involving talented guard Dion Waiters could bring back a starter. Griffin hinted that he isnt done remodeling the Cavs. "We need to continue to work on the defensive side of the ball," he said at Wiggins introductory news conference. "We need to get better from a basketball IQ standpoint, from a shooting perspective. And all of those moves will be forthcoming." For several years, the Cavs have been involved in trade rumours involving Kevin Love, who has one year left on his deal with Minnesota. If Cleveland can package the right pieces together, they may be able to pry Love away from the Timberwolves. Love and James were teammates four years ago in the London Olympics, where they helped the U.S. win a gold medal. Back then, James said that when he won his first championship with Miami, his thoughts quickly shifted to Cleveland and what might have been. "I wish I could have won one there," he said before a practice. "I could only imagine how the parade would have been down East Ninth Street. Of course I thought about it because Cleveland helped me get to that point. The days that I spent there helped me get to the point where I was able to finally win one. Its just unfortunate I wasnt able to do it there." Its possible James will re-sign with the Heat and the Cavs will move on without him. But if they decide to pursue the two-time champion in the days ahead and get a meeting with James, the Cavs can sell their team and tug at his heart. James has never rejected the idea of a return to Cleveland. Maybe this is the summer to mend fences and start anew in a familiar place. Ndamukong Suh Rams Jersey . Billy Hamilton finished off Cincinnatis biggest comeback of the season for a doubleheader sweep. Brian Allen Rams Jersey . Louis still looking for a way out of Tampa Bay, the 38-year-old NHL veteran isnt showing his cards.DENVER - The sun was out and the sky was clear around Coors Field. So this was one unusual postponement. The game between the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds was called off Saturday night because of a water main break just steps from the primary entrance to the ballpark. It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Sunday. The first game will start at 4:10 p.m. EDT and the second at 9:10 p.m. The Rockies originally said the game would be delayed 30 minutes, and that city officials were on their way to fix the issue. There were pools of water visible on the street and sidewalk near Blake Street. Restrooms inside Coors Field were not working and there were only limited concessions as the water was turned off to the stadium. Yellow tape was put up to keep fans away from the street and police officers patrolled the area. About 45 minutes after the scheduled first pitch, the Denver Office of Emergency Management requested the game be postponed. "We were told no restrooms. No concessions. You have to have them," said fan Don Evans of Denver. "Important parts of a game. They told us theyd have everything fixed." Stacy Chesney, a spokesperson for Denver Water, said a pipe installed in the 1900s ruptured around 7:30 p.m. EDT. She also said Coors Field was the only customer in the area without water. "Were working as fast as possible to get it repaired," Chesney said. "Were really sorry for the inconvenience to the fans." All this with the sun out and the temperature in the high 80s. "I wasnt sure what was happening," said Reds manager Bryan Price, who met with Rockies skipper Walt Weiss at home plate for several minutes before the game was scrubbed. "There was water on the road, and next thing they are calling the game." Rockies second baseman Josh Rutledge was just as stunned. He said it reminded him of a time when he was with the Tri City Dust Devils in Pasco, Washington, during rookie ball and a fire in the area interrupted a contest. "But I dont know if the game got cancelled," Rutledge said. "You cant make this stuff up." This has simply been that kind of season for the Rockies. Theyre last in the National League and in danger of losing 100 games for the first time in their history. Los Angeles Rams Jerseys. "Whatever can happen will this year," Ryan Lewis of Billings, Montana, said. "Id be surprised if we didnt have a hurricane." The impromptu postponement did help out a few banged-up sluggers. Reds first baseman Todd Frazier was going to take a second night off with a strained lower back. For the Rockies, first baseman Justin Morneau was a late scratch with a stiff neck. Honouring HELTON The Rockies will retire Todd Heltons No. 17 in a ceremony Sunday. The longtime first baseman wrapped up his 17-year career in the Mile High City last season, departing as the franchises career leader in games played (2,247), hits (2,519), doubles (592), homers (369) and RBIs (1,406). Helton will be the centre of attention, something he never really craved during his career. "Hes going to have all the eyes on him," said outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who was activated off the disabled list Saturday after missing more than two months. "I know hes going to feel awkward, but he deserves to feel awkward." Cuddyer firmly believes Helton belongs in Cooperstown. "Hes a Hall of Famer," Cuddyer said. "Id put his numbers up to anybodys. Hes up there with them." TRAINERS ROOM Reds: INF Brandon Phillips (left thumb) was 0 for 2 with a walk and played seven innings during a rehab game with Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Price wants to see how the rest of the weekend goes for Phillips before making any decisions on when he might rejoin the team. "Were anxious to have him back," Price said. Rockies: LHP Franklin Morales missed his start Friday when his wife went into labour. Morales proudly announced his wife had a girl they named Mariana Elena. She was born at 5:37 p.m. Friday and weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces. UP NEXT Reds: RHP Mat Latos (4-3) will start the first game and RHP Dylan Axelrod the second. Axelrod is taking the place of Homer Bailey, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained right elbow. After an inpressive four-game home-and-home sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Toronto Blue Jays welcome the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to town tonight for the start of a four-game weekend set. Marquis Haynes Jersey . The Blue Jays send Dustin McGowan amid rumors that hes battling to maintain starting status, though the teams general manager denied that hes in jeopardy of demotion. "I never understood the whole McGowan watch," Alex Anthopoulos said. "I kept hearing every start is for his job. I dont know that weve ever said it. Its been three starts in a row, every start is for his job. I just dont know that ever came from the organization." He was a 7-2 winner in his most recent outing at Pittsburgh on Sunday and has given up just three earned runs in his last 13 innings of work. "Hes definitely shown me something," Gibbons said. McGowan is 1-4 with a 3.86 ERA in five meetings with the Angels. On Thursday in Toronto, Edwin Encarnacion belted two home runs and drove in three to lead the Blue Jays to a 12-6 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies and sweep of a four-game set. Juan Francisco went 3-for-3 with a solo homer and three runs scored and Adam Lind, fresh off the 15-day disabled list, had a two-run blast and three RBI for Toronto, which outscored the Phillies, 31-11, in the series. Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey (3-3) worked 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits, while fanning eight. Toronto enters with an average of seven runs scored -- including 13 home runs -- in eight games in May. "We are some kind of hot right now," manager John Gibbons said. "You put us in this ballpark, its a home run heaven here. Its tough to pitch to. Everyone is feeding off each other." Right-hander Garrett Richards will continue his prolonged audition for a spot in the Angels starting rotation tonight. Richards was a part-time starter and reliever heading into this season, but hes been strong beginning games thus far in 2014 while holding opposition batters to a paltry .184 average and striking out 40 in 38 innings. He was a 5-3 winner in his most recent outing on Saturday, when he held Texas to three runs in six innings and struck out nine. He started twice against Toronto in the late stages of the 2013 season and won both assignments while allowing a combined five runs in 13 2/3 innings. On Wednesday in Anaheim, Derek Jeter hit his first homer of the season, Vidal Nuno tossed 6 1/3 solid innings and the New York Yankees beat the Angels, 9-2, in the rubber match of a three-game series. C.J. Cron went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Angels, who saw starter Hector Santiago (0-6) give up six runs -- two earned -- on five hits with three walks over 2 1/3 innings. "Hector wasnt able to minimize damage tonight," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Hes an emotional guy and he needs to get his confidence back." The Angels went 6-1 last season versus the Blue Jays, sweeping a three-game set in Toronto. DJ Moore Panthers Jersey . -- Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias says he has stress fractures in both legs and isnt sure when hell be able to play again, leaving the Tigers two weeks to fill his spot for opening day and perhaps a lot longer. Panthers Jerseys . Karlovic of Croatia used his big serve to beat Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic 7-6 (6), 7-6 (7). Kohlschreiber had lost all of his three previous matches against Istomin but the German broke serve for a decisive 3-2 lead in the third set and held on to reach his first final of the year.PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates already had a four-run lead over an ailing Justin Verlander when Travis Snider threw out a runner at the plate in the second for an inning-ending double play. "It very well couldve been one of those things you talk about as a momentum-changer," manager Clint Hurdle said. Snider not only saved runs, he created them. Snider hit a pair of home runs and drove in four, Starling Marte added three RBIs and the Pirates coasted to an 11-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday night. Gregory Polanco also threw out a runner at the plate, when Rajai Davis tried to score from second on Miguel Cabreras single in the eighth. Even with a five-run lead at the time, the game couldve become much closer. "They left as many men on base as we did," Hurdle said. "They were a swing of the bat from being right back in the game three times tonight." Verlander (10-11) gave up five runs on four hits and walked two before he was removed after pitching one inning with right shoulder soreness. "Just didnt feel great," Verlander said, "and disappointing on a night that the team really needed me." The loss, coupled with Kansas Citys 3-2 win over Oakland, dropped the Tigers a half-game behind the now first-place Royals in the AL Central Division. Pittsburgh loaded the bases against Verlander with one out in the first inning, and Marte cleared them with a triple down the left-field line. Snider drove Marte home when his grounder to first took an odd hop, and Victor Martinez couldnt glove it. Verlander threw 40 pitches and bunted in the second before he was removed. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI in Detroit on Tuesday. "Id be lying if I said I wasnt a little nervous," Verlander said. "Ive never been through this before." Verlander added there was no sharp pain in his shoulder, but manager Brad Ausmus removed him from the game to risk any further injury. Snider knocked in two more in the eighth inning off Phil Coke with his eighth homer, a two-run, opposite-field shot. Martin hit his sixth home run of the year in the sixth inning, and Ike Davis followed with his eighth. Snider was 3 for 5 and scored three runs. "Just another dday," Snider said. Dontari Poe Panthers Jersey. . "For me, its nice to contribute offensively, and defensively, and help this team win." Detroit scored three runs in the sixth to get within 8-4 and knock Pittsburgh starter Jeff Locke out of the game. Cabrera, Martinez and Torii Hunter started the inning with consecutive hits, and Cabrera scored on Hunters double. Alex Avila drove Martinez home with a single, and Hunter scored when Don Kelly hit into a fielders choice. Locke (4-3) was responsible for four runs, eight hits and four walks in five-plus innings. TRAINERS ROOM Tigers: Detroit placed RHP Joakim Soria on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain, retroactive to Sunday. Pirates: Pittsburgh placed CF Andrew McCutchen on the 15-day disabled list because of a broken rib. The move is retroactive to Aug. 4. ... 2B Neil Walker (back) was out of the starting lineup for the sixth straight game. ... RHP Gerrit Cole returned to Pittsburgh after making his third rehab start Sunday. He has been on the DL since July 5 with a strained right lat. There is still no timetable for his return to action. ON DECK Tigers: LHP Robby Ray (1-1, 4.70 ERA) will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to start on Tuesday in Detroits second of two games in Pittsburgh. In one start this season against Minnesota on May 11, Ray pitched six shutout innings. Pirates: RHP Edinson Volquez (9-7, 3.70 ERA) starts for the Pirates after allowing one hit in seven shutout innings against Miami on Thursday. Volquez hasnt fared well against Detroit in two career starts, allowing eight runs in 9 2-3 innings. STAFF SHAKEUP In addition to Sorias placement on the disabled list, the Tigers optioned left-handed relievers Patrick McCoy and Blaine Hardy to Triple-A Toledo. Taking their places are RHP Justin Miller and LHP Ian Krol. The Tigers also purchased the contract of RHP Kevin Whelan from Toledo and unconditionally released LHP Casey Crosby. Detroits relievers have compiled a 4.38 ERA this season, the fifth-worst in the majors. In the starting rotation, RHP Rick Porcellos start has been pushed pack to Friday. If there was a clear sign that Graham DeLaet was over the flu that kept him bed-ridden for most of the week, it came in the form of a Wednesday night Tweet: "After 4 days of being sick, doing some BBQing and drinking a cold beer. Neymar Jersey . The kid is back!" The second sign was evident at Valhalla Golf Club on Thursday where DeLaet fashioned a solid round of two-under 69. Despite seeing the 18 holes just once before the tournament started, he played like a member. "I felt pretty good this morning for the first time," said DeLaet. "I woke up and felt pretty normal and went through my regular routine. I didnt really know exactly what to expect out there because my preparation wasnt there but I played well." DeLaet started well with a birdie on his first hole but his unfamiliarity with the course bit him on the second. He played what he thought was a perfect tee shot but the line was off and his ball ran through the dogleg into the rough, leading a bogey. He rolled in a 25-footer on the sixth hole for another birdie and added two more on 10 and 11. Two bogeys on 14 and 17, along with a birdie on the 16th rounded out his day. In addition to his health, the competitiveness was also back in DeLaet. That was clear on the final hole when he was expecting better results from his second shot which landed hard and bounced over the green. When he arrived at his ball, he slapped his glove on his thigh, obviously upset that his shot wasnt perfect. "I was a little disappointed to finish like that," he admitted. "I hit two great shots on 18 and had to chip out of a tricky lie but I played really well and Im happy with that. It was a good start." Thats the DeLaet that has been so successful on the course, the DeLaet who equalled the course record at Royal Montreal two weeks ago and the DeLaet who was hot after missing the cut at the British Open. Hes feisty, determined. This is guy who says he likes to win at everything, even when hes playing cards against his wife. On this day, however, he gave a lot of credit to his other partner, caddie Julien Trudeau whose pre-tournament reconnaissance he relied on several times throughout the day. "I feel like Julien did a really good job," he said. "He was kind of guiding me around on a couple of holes I didnt know the exact line but it was a good day." Overall, DeLaet was on form missing just three fairways and hitting 13 greens on the day. Thats a good sign that his game that was heating up before he fell ill, has remained now that hes better. "It was bad timing," he said of the bug. "I was really starting to find my form the last couple of months. Theres usually two or three times a year when you feel youre playing really well and this was one of them, so bad timing. But it feels like I can kind of pick up where I left off. This is DeLaets sixth major and after making the cut in the British a year ago, hes missed in the next four including all three this year. Hes on a good path towards ending that streak here. A good round on Friday will most certainly make him feel a whole lot better. Giovani Lo Celso Paris Saint-Germain Jersey . Weaver and Poje, both from Waterloo, Ont., finished first in the ice dancing free skate with 101.64 points for a combined 163.14 points in the Russian event. The pair scored 61.50 points for their performance in the short program on Friday. Earlier, Kirsten Moore-Towers of St. Catharines, Ont., and Dylan Moscovitch of Toronto took bronze in the pairs program to also qualify for the Japan final. Poje says he and Weaver used their disappointing short dance score as motivation heading into Saturdays event. "After not having the most positive score on the short dance we wanted to make sure we came back and showed that we have a strong free dance ... and I feel like we did that," he said. "We didnt achieve a seasons best score, but we achieved a season-best performance for us." Weaver and Poje missed out on qualifying for the ISU Grand Prix Final last year. Now that theyve secured their spot in this years event, Weaver says that means "everything." "Its the last time the judges are going to see us before the Olympics," she said. "We want to leave a lasting impression and show that we are every bit eligible for that Olympic podium. "The best teams in the world will be at that final and thats our shot to measure ourselves up against them and see where we stand two short months before the Games. It will give us a very good judgement as to what we need to work on and what has gotten better since the last time weve been up against these teams." They will join Meagan Duhamel of Lively, Ont., and Eric Radford of Balmertown, Ont., who have already qualified for the final pairs program in Japan. "For the most part we were strong from the beginning to the end," Moore-Towers said. "Our skating skills are improving every time out. We are excited to have made the final where we will have better performances." Moscovitch said the pair came into the competition well prepared after some solid training since Skate Canada a month ago. "Well definitely be hungry at the Grand Prix Final," he said. Its an opportunity to be among the top-six in the world and competing there will set us up well for the second half of the season."
